I know this is really off-topic, and it can be deleted as soon as my question gets answered. I wouldn't post it here, but time is of the essence and I need some help.

I'm driving from Denver (University & Evans area specifically) to Boulder (CU Boulder specifically) in the morning to take a major exam. The only problem is, I've never been to Boulder, and I'm not from Colorado, so I still don't know my way around the state.

I went to the CU website and got a map and some directions, but I wanted to run it by real people as opposed to a computer. Normally I'd just mapquest it, but I can't find a specific address to the building I need to go to.

Anyways, here is what I think I'm supposed to do, let me know if I'm off at all.

North I-25
West US 36
Get off on Baseline
Left on baseline
Right on Broadway
Right on Regent drive
...and my building should be right there on Regent

Is that how I get to Boulder and to the campus in general? Apart from getting to my specific building, as long as that gets me to the campus, I believe I can find the building from there.

Again, I hate to bring this to the main forum, but getting lost and potentially missing this exam is really not an option, and none of my friends are in town right now.

Exactly right my friend.

Its not all that hard to find. Once you get off on Baseline Broadway will be the next major intersection(with a light). You could potentially pass up Regent, but the whole campus will basically be to your right hand side after you turn up Broadway. Parking can be a pain, but you shouldn't have too much of a problem.

Great route, leave early to avoid traffic and to find parking! Good luck on the exam. :D

My exam is at 9, I'm supposed to get there by 8:30. I was thinking of leaving Denver at 7, to account for any traffic, finding the building, parking, etc.

Is that enough time?

And thanks kappys and AlphaOmega.

www.mapquest.com I bascially ignore any directions they give me as they usually are wrong but it will atleast point you in the right direction.

I can't tell you how many times I wish we had installed a GPS on OF1. It's on the list to do for next year for sure.

Good luck DU.

Wish the cab driver would have had GPS driving from Denver to Aurora trying to find your house for the pre tailgate! Ha!

I've got a garmin eTrex. It's way cool. The screen is probably a little small for a pilot to navigate at the same time (please drive safely!) but it's highly portable, doesn't talk back at all (I hate those) and works great if you've got time or a navigator to do the screen work. You can preload your route from your PC and get all kinds of maps from hiking trails to city streets. I won't go anywhere I've never been without it, it's that valuable to me. I'm sure there are many others that work equally well. I just thought I'd plug a product I really like.

Be careful up here mate, the roads are still snow and Ice. There are plenty of areas near CU to park, especially if your here for just an exam.

Good luck with the exam!

ummm there really isn't a place to take tests near regent and broadway. The closest buildings are 2 administration buildings and 3 dorms. If your test is in the engineering building i suggest a different route. Take Hwy 36 all the way to Colorado (First light on 36 just after the baseline exit) and turn left, take your first left onto Regent off of Colorado, and the Engineering building is the big one on the left with a parking lot and garage on the right. There are really no other places to take a test on regent.

The traffic was bad on 36 years ago....it's no doubt gotten worse...36 exit is N of town some if memory serves right.

What I don't get is why someone from DU, a private U, would have to go to CU for a damn exam unless your going to get a lecture first...you can fax an exam and print it out easily...DU is pricey, you would think they would have it together better than that....

Well, here's what I saw, and tell me what you might recomend.

I turn right on regent, and from the map I saw on the CU homepage, I would pass the regent administration center on my left. I'm gunna take a left right after that building, and I should run right into Willard Hall.

This is actually a great point... I'm not taking a DU exam, I'm taking the GMAT, a standard test to get into grad school. The denver locations were full, this was the only place I could take it, which sucks.

I drive a car, not a big SUV or anything... Although the test is kinda pricey, they've given me the green light to not go if I don't feel safe... I'm not a speed demon or anything, I mean, I generally take it slow in snow, but still, I'm not in a 4-wheel drive or anything... Should I be thinking about not going? Obviously, missing the test and flushing $250 down the toilet is better then crashing my car..

If you're going to Willard, thats perfect. Theres a huge parking lot there (i think its permit only) and there are some metered spots around the lot.

This is great news. As long as I can make it up there, it looks like I somewhat know where I'm going.

The roads are fine up here, generally in moderate traffic it takes me 40 min to get from boulder to South Denver, so you should have plenty of time to get up here if you leave an hour and a half early, even time to grab a cup of coffee and some food.

Thanks for the update.

I guess my main concern on getting US 36... has anybody been on it in the last day? Is it driveable? I think I can manuever city streets, but a highway can get dangerous.

We are having a bad winter up here in NW Iowa...freaking wal-mart had THREE MECHANICS in to install a new battery in the mini-van...I mean 3 in the whole garage area...that thing was incredibly difficult to work on...I swear, that place understaffs just so you have to circle the store 10 times...that is a superstore and should have at LEAST 8 working...it's got three or 4 FULL STALLS plus the tire area, and whatever...that crazy van has the nipple posts on the battery and a cross member covering the battery...they did put it in for free and rotated the tires...but 4 hours? crazy thing is, with 3 guys on duty, he takes a ONE HOUR LUNCHBREAK...I know that's standard, but this place has a full cafe and a subway to boot..and several close places to eat....if they are understaffed, you would think that he might of gotten back a little sooner...I had a hell of a time getting that van going...I have a fancy charger with the boost, but had to go get new jumpers, the others were cheap...It's hard to even get cables on those nipple batteries...whatever engineer decided that was brilliant was an idiot...but i have seen plenty of idiot engineers...they totally screwed up the main road...we pay for all new curb and cutter and paving, and they make the thing single lane with a super wide center turn lane...yet now, with the increased traffic only one lane, it's even harder to turn left than before...they have never heard of turn arrows? turning a 4 lane into a 2 lane is an improvement? You have to wait even longer to turn, and you have to cross all the way across the street to make a left...if someone across is making a right, your fighting for one lane...it's totally astoundingly absurd, but some educated idiot decided this was much better...to double the traffic on the road...now it's a cattle train of one lane each way...just amazing...

I was on 36 today...actually drove it all the way to Colorado Blvd. from Boulder. Wasnt bad at all really. Plus the roads in Boulder arent bad at all....just freezing out. You'll be fine driving from Denver. Just leave by 7 and I'd say you'll be fine....bring hot coffee.
