and the 184 passing yards a game this team surrendered last year. May Lenny Walls rot in hell for his failed potential over a steady player like Kelly.
I am so sick and tired of Slowik's new secondary scheme. :redpunch: I am sick of the lack of a JAM on the other teams receivers on third and 5+. :pfbbt: I am sick of the 240 passing yards a game this year. Nyah! I am sick of not being able to Man up in the red Zone. :bs:
The pressure has been twice as good from the DL this year and they are still playing 8-10 yards of the receiver. It is time to let the babes start eating solids and get them off the tit. Press man coverage and in your face "D" from here on out.
Come on Larry Coyer make it so Knowitall That is all ;D

I agree . I was so pissed when they let Kelly go and left walls. Kelly was a good one on one cover guy for this defense.

Whenever the Herndon or Walls poll was made at the beginning of the season. Walls won by a good margin of course. I damned the poll starter for not making it a public poll. There will be folks with the yeah but the Peerlis Price game and so on. Those games were few and far between, we could use Kelly.

I am a little baffled by the use of Denver's corners.
Sundquist said in the offseason that Darrent, Foxworth and Paymah were primarily drafted because they showed they could play press coverage in college. In fact, Sundquist felt Paymah was the best press corner in the entire draft.

It wouldnt have made much difference in the long run. With the newbies, neither Herndon nor Walls would have been on the team in 2006. No way would we pay real money to retain one of them long term, when we already have DWill and Foxy doing well and playing for peanuts (esp. when one factors in their expected growth as players).

I'm not sure, but I would guess the off-coverage scheme is designed (in theory anyway) to allow the Corners time to read the routes and then jump them. Pass rush has helped our turovers as predicted but I wonder if the off coverages have something to do with it.
...And for the books, I said Walls was better and I was dead wrong. I also said the Lelie would be the number 1 receiver by the end of the season. :loopy:

You dimwits...Herndon was given a huge contract...Walls was under a FA rookie contract...are you people retarded?
Walls didn't have a contract, Herndon signed a nice deal and was deemed expendable...now that decision might be questioned, but comparing Walls and Herndon is simply idiotic...the difference in money is funny...
Do you know what Walls was making compared to Herndon? Are are you even aware Walls had to go thru an injury settlement?
WTF are you selling?

The idea is to have the safties jump routes actually...the off coverage scheme isn't to jump routes, it's designed to be able to run support and tackle the dump offs...simple letting kennison and hall run free was criminal...Coyer's zone scheme is horrific...give me zero coverage with DW, Fox and Champ and let's bring the heat...
Dumping coverage is no way to win a ballgame...where was the over the top coverage on Kennison when Foxy lost him?
Over the top coverage is only worth a shiat when you are actually in on the play...

I too want press coverage, and i am very confused with the use of these rooks. As above stated ,Fox and Paymah were specifically drafted for thei man to man coverage. And yet we are playing off the line and they are getting beat caz of it. NFL WR are too good not to beat off coverage, attack them at the LOS and timing goes away, and THATS when TO's will happen.

Exactly...DW, Fox and Champ can match up man to man with only one safety...
That gives you seven men and still some LB's to roam the middle...and Gold is good in coverage, Williams isn't a slouch, neither is Wilson...bad scheme...if it was a great scheme, why were KC WR's running wild?
Just never mind...I have seen more football than half of this board combined....

Yes, you are mentally challenged. We could have tendered him for the same amount of money we tendered Walls for and we would've been owed a first rounder. We chose Walls over Herndon. Bad decision period. I bet Herndon wouldn't be cut at this point in the season. He would've been a very valuable member of the secondary. This season

At the time of the draft, I stated I wanted Herndon for a first round tender Mock. That means he was rented for another year and we could let him go at the end of this season. I wanted him before Walls, but ideally I wanted both for depth.

I miss Herndons Tenacity. He was a great tackler and decent cover guy. With that said he was always the one getting burnt last year, especially against Indy and Atlanta. I think Walls was a shell of the man he was last year. He just looked different. He was playing scared, this year and he already was cut by the Raiders. He was better then Herndon last year, but neither are doing all that great this year, so I think they made the right choice, Walls costed a little under 1 million and Herndon 3.5 million. Remember Walls once caught Randy Moss from behind like he was standing still and he caught Reggie Wayne like he was a lineman in that preseason game earlier this year, but his skills were obviously gone this year. My answer he is playing scared worried about an injury. He was my choice over Herndon and if they both were playing healthy and at the top of their game their is no doubt which one was better.

What you mean Walls isn't pro bowl caliber??? another blunder by the front office. If they would have only listened to the Herndon supporters.

We could have kept Herndon this year as well for 1 million or at least got a draft pick in exchange. We offered the one million restricted free agent tender to Walls and not Herndon.

Blame that on Jimmy Spencer, who said Walls' performance after one training camp practice in 2003 was the best he'd seen since Deion.

True, but I'm just saying neither is doing anything so either way we are fine. I think Williams and FOxy are great, and well Champ we all know he is grrreat. I thought Walls was better untill this year and then boom he sucked. By the way many people agreed that he was the better cover corner not Herndon.

We could have given Herndon the higher tender. He wouldn't have costed 15 million then..

Anyone who bashes our passing d should look at the stats a little more.
a) We by far have the most pass attempts against us in the NFL with 461.
b) Teams only complete 56.8% of their passes against us, 8th lowest in the NFL.
c) We only give up 6.55 yds per attempt, 9th lowest in the NFL.
d) We have 16 Interceptions, 5th in the NFL.
e) Opposing QBs have a 75.3 rating against us, 9th lowest in the NFL.
For me, our poor ranking is mainly down to the fact that weīve played with the lead a lot this season and being down more or less forces the other team to pass. I admit, I was worried about our passing D on Sunday, too, but itīs way too early to panic as the numbers donīt look that bad when you break them down a bit. Our D was ranked top 5 in 2003 and 2004, but overall I have more faith in this D, although itīs only ranked 24th in the NFL.

I am sick of not being able to Man up in the red Zone. :bs:
The pressure has been twice as good from the DL this year and they are still playing 8-10 yards of the receiver. It is time to let the babes start eating solids and get them off the tit. Press man coverage and in your face "D" from here on out.
It's not as easy as that. Yes Dwill and Fox can play press coverage and I'm quite sure they would be good at it.
1. But it's not all about the rookies. When you play Lynch close to the line of scrimmage as often as we do then it would be suicide to ask your rookie CBs to play press since they are one slip away from the WR running for a TD with no safety to help out because he's in the box.
2. Also our rookie CBs have proved to be very good tacklers. Yes they give up a 7-8 yard cushion but they can effectively use their speed and sure tackling to come up and put in a tackle on the WR and limit him to a 2-3 yard gain, plus it allows for them to jump routes and catch stray passes. Using their speed there is a no brainer and they've been very good at doing it, so we're not giving up a whole lot for a bit of security.
3. It allows our rookie CBs to see the action in front of them so they can track the ball easier and make ints (both CBs have 4 ints combined) and this would be almost impossible to do for smaller rookies CBs if they are playing man and can't track the ball in the air. This is another reason Champ is getting more ints as well.
4. And lastly, and perhaps more importantly, when you play press coverage you need top notch athletes at the safety spot. Because in press coverage there is a much greater chance of a bigger possession WR breaking a tackle or getting past a press corner who's only 5'9, and that's when you need a safety with great range and speed to be able to make up ground quickly while the pass is thrown and be there as the secondary tackler or use his speed to bring down the WR if he springs loose from the CB.
Lynch has no such range. And neither does Ferguson, they're not going to catch a WR from behind, so Coyer has to play the game of percentages.
I'm not saying it's without it's faults but no system is totally secure. And yes we give up chunks of (mostly) meaningless yardage but we are getting a lot more ints and the rookie CBs are protected and we are limiting big plays.
