Can we please cut through all the Chief chest thumping and get to the matter at hand? Haven't we got a game comming up against the Ratbirds?
Will the Broncos make a statement after gifting the Chiefs a win or will they come out flat?
What are the key matchups in the upcomming game?
C'mon guys, the Chiefs are history, let's look at the present.

This Ravens team is nothing like the one we've stuggled against. It won't have Ray Lewis, and Jamal Lewis is not playing like his former self.
I think the Broncos come out angry, and ready to win.

I for one wish Shanny would get a consistent run game going. I love MA but he has not been very quick the hole. I know they talked him up about having the best ever training camp but that was months ago. TB needs more carries, I think Dayne has a better feel right now & may have more power. We need to establish the run & not try to get fancy in the passing game. Dont give up easy points on turnovers & control the clock.
I don't have any stats but seems to me like we have not been controling clock in last few games as well as we were before.

Ma has been the only reliable back for the broncos this year. Tater had some good carries last week but you got to understand he is not as tough in the holes as Ma or Dayne for that matter. Tatum is perfect for our offense as a change of pace guy and thats all he will ever be unless he gets a little stronger in his lower body.

Considering Denver's struggles in recent weeks against formidable tight ends, Todd Heap scares me. He's quietly having a Pro Bowl season. Heap should actually get the backup slot in the Pro Bowl over Tony Gonzalez.
He also kicked our butts on the 2002 MNF loss.

Yep. He is Baltimore's only real threat. It wont take a whole lot of scheming to shut them down. As always, its how you distribute your 7 pass defenders against their 5 possible pass recievers. Since they do not have any favorable matchups in terms of WRs on CBs or Backs on LBs in terms of the passing game, we can afford to play man-to-man across the board with the 5 underneath defenders (LBs and CBs), with both corners up in a press position. That leaves us with 2 extra defenders. Since Heap is their only real threat, we can afford to use one safety (or nickel defender) in conjunction with a LB to always bracket him, with one defender aligned well to his inside to cut off inside routes and the other defender aligned to the outside to cutoff the outside routes. With the remaining extra defender, we can start out the game having that extra safety just play Free, dropping back in the deep middle third. If we arent getting pressure (that would be a surprise in this game), instead of playing that Man-Free with the other safety helping to bracket Heap, we'll blitz another LB and have the safety who otherwise would be playing in the deep third "Free" on the back that the LB would have had to cover. They can try and move Heap around to disrupt the Bracket and cause some confusion over which two defenders will bracket him, but in today's NFL, bracket systems are pretty easy so long as you can communicate. Football manual writer and coach John Rice has an example of his bracketing "numbers system" that is designed to always quickly locate and negate the opposition's best reciever. It involves numbers so that regardless of the formation, you can quickly spot the key guy and call out a number to quickly determine who will bracket the guy (See Below). I suspect we will use something very similar to negate Heap, since he is the sole guy we are worried about in the pass game.

I'm tired of all the analysis on who should or shouldn't, who is and isn't... I just want to see Denver kick some Ratbird ass. That includes the 12th man. Crowd needs to step it up for the stretch run. 2 more home games to make it the first undefeated home season since 98.

I haven't been following jailbirds at all this year as they have been unusually clear of all criminal activities.
I just know that they are swamped with injuries across the board. Will Demps is injured and Ed Reed just returned from a bad ankle. They were forced to put Deoin at Safety! They lost they're nickel CB and a couple of starting DL.
Also their OL seems to be nicked up with Ogden nursing a bad hammy and he's questionable to play. Still this Denver team should win at home and win comfortabley but there's no point getting complacent even though the jailbirds have yet to win a single game on the road.

I have yet to pick the Broncos to win
but my point is, a trap game is a game right before a big game usually by defintion against a bad team
well our next game is against a bad team too (Bills) and we are coming off a tough loss

how many trap games we have here?
this MAY have been one had we BEAT the chiefs.
considering the fact that we lost to kc, this game should be a slam dunk (knock on wood anyway though)
the crap about "we always lose to baltimore" or "they have our number" is just ludicrous.
remind me when we played them last?
oh yeah, it was two YEARS ago and plummer was out.
how about other times we played them?
a loss against the superbowl champs again with a backup qb.
gimme a break.
they have nothing on us. these are completely different teams, and we should be able to have our way with them.
the raiders on christmas eve is the trap game.
we should win this week easily, and then we go to buffalo to face an offense that plays right into our hands. should be another easy win.
after that, we come home for what SHOULD be an easy win at home.
problem is, that game is the raiders superbowl, and they do have speed on the outside which can give us fits.
if weather is an issue, that game could fall into the "trap" category, but this one?
no way.

Broncos will rely on their run game to get this win, it wont be pretty, but baltimore does not have the ability to sustain offense for 60 minutes. Also a game for the denver defense to reassert themselves. They played bad football in KC, our secondary is lightyears better then the show they put on last sunday. Playoff run, this is where we have to start the run to the 2nd seed. If they are the team we think they are, Baltimore will get blown out.

The impression I get from listening to Shanahan & his crew is that there really is some serious bad blood between the Bronco & Raisins coaching staffs, if only implied.
It's the subject of rumors what, exactly, might've transpired between the two staffs, but something did, & more than a single incident...in addition to the fact that Billick owns a 4 & 0 record against Mike.
This game seems to deliver a 'payback' opportunity on a silver platter.
Here's hoping the Broncos do exactly that.

Perhaps we are still angry about them getting cold feet at the last second in the 2003 draft. We came quite close to getting a very nice bundle of picks for our first before they backed off and left us in a bit of a jam. Still turned out pretty good for us with Foster, but we almost had them raped, Redskins style.

It probably has to do with the fact that Billick owns Shanahan, and perhaps there's some resentment left over after the Ratbirds backed out of a deal with the Donks on draft day a few years back.
