My computer has a virus, adaware, spybot, registry mechanic, crapcleaner, none help.
I use firefox but IE keeps popping up with wee adds, and basically everything is working kinda crap.
It WILL NOT let me system restore to a couple of days ago when things were fine. Keeps saying system restore incomplete.
Help help help!!!
Please, if anyone has any ideas, I'd really appreciate them.

(the ironic thing is most of these pop ups are for anti-virus software)

Wow, dunno about that but if you get it straight i would strongly suggest you start using the Firefox browser. Also, if you use share programs i would advise not too anymore. many viruses are passed through file sharing programs.

You might have the Winfixer virus. Nasty one. Try spysweeper or do a search here on the mane for a link to a fix.

A couple of suggestions:
Disable Microsoft Messenger if you haven't already.
Download this (http://www.ewido.net/en/) and get updates (but don't run yet.)
Reboot in safe mode and run complete system scan.

HijackThis examines certain key areas of the Registry and Hard Drive and lists their contents. These are areas which are used by both legitimate programmers and hijackers. It's up to you to decide what should be removed. Some items are perfectly fine. You should not remove them. Never remove everything. Doing that could leave you with missing items needed to run legitimate programs and add-ins. This Page will help you work with the Experts to clean up your system. For those of you needing instructions on how to Copy and Paste the contents of a text file into a Forum Post, please look at the Table of Contents. A link to the instructions is included.

I had some nasty spyware hijack the homepage on my machine. I ran Ad-Aware, Spy-Bot and Ewido, but none of them could eliminate it. They were able to give me the name of the offending file, though.
I ran the computer in safe mode and entered the first few letters of the file in search. Then I deleted the little bugger and restarted my computer. I checked to make sure everything looked normal and I emptied the recycle bin. The only trace left was this piece of crap security toolbar, from the same bastards who tried to extort me into buying their spyware by infecting me in the first place. I tracked that down and deleted it, too.
