I'm reading this new book out on Belichick and it looks like "the beginnings" of his NE approach on defense were learned while he was at Denver during the 78 season, assisting the secondary coach (studying game film) , and watching Denver's formidable 3-4 with Jackson, Gradishar, Rizzo and Swenson @ LB and Chavous, Alzado and Carter the front three.
