I didn't mean to highjack Alecs thread so I figured there should be a thread for people to post their newly aquired PS skills in a separate thread. So I'll start with my latest.

Good post GB16.

Here's my latest stuff, I don't go for funny pictures, I do more avatar/sig stuff.

I just made my own avatar with Carmelo in the NBA logo, and lately I've been toying around with the Denver skyline:

A magic wand tutorial would be good

Hmm, Tutorial 1a will be a magic wand tutorial then. Since for the most part it is used as an extraction method (just not good for multi-colored images).

Alec, here is something I want to know if possible..

On the pictures I did above, I put players over the Denver Skyline. Well, what I want to know is, is it possible to make the players transparent? I want to make the players kind of light, to where you can still see them, but you can see the skyline behind then... I guess, making them "ghosts," for lack of a better example.

Is this possible? If so how?

in the layers window in the upper right their should be an opacity option
also you can change the different settins(overlay dissolve ) etc in the upper left

Blending Modes...

The Staples are- Normal, Multiply, Screen, Overlay and Hard light.

If you have the Move Tool selected (press V ) and then press Command/+ (plus sign) to cycle through the modes to get the desired effect.

You can adjust the opacity of each layer..... inside the layers window, in the bottom left corner, there's effects. you can do all these different types of blurs and opacity changes in there.

Layers Masks...

I make a Selection just inside the image, Enter Quick Mask Mode (press Q), then goto Filters>Brush Strokes> (pick a filter)

Usually Spatter or Sprayed Strokes work well for this effect.

*You'll have to play around with this for alittle bit to get the desired effect*

The press Q again to exit quick mask mode.

Now just Select the Layer mask Icon at the bottom of the LAYERS PALETTE (3rd icon from the LEFT). It will creat the effect by knocking out (masking) everything that was not selected.

**If your layer was still a BACKGROUND, you will need to double-click on it, to make it an actual "layer"**

Then just create a new layer and fill it with white, and there you go.

Again, this does take alittle playing around with, but there are many, many things you can do with this. Not just borders, but image collages and effect, just with the use of LAYER MASKS.

I live and die by Layer Masks, They have numerous advantages and are one of my favorite things in Photoshop.

I used a Layer mask to isolate JAKE from the background, in that image above.

But anyway I hope that wasn't TOO confusing.

Been staring at the computer too long, and its getting late... ;D

GB16, can you post that image of Invesco without Jake, Champ, and MA? That has potential.

BTW I like the work you did on cutting out those guys, that can be really tough, especially with fingers, small areas, etc.

After extracting and cropping and saving the image as stock, it's easier to create new wallpapers: http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/2294/bell2td20si.th.jpg (http://img220.imageshack.us/my.php?image=bell2td20si.jpg)

Thanks a million to alex for the tutorials. I used the extraction technique, and the "flip vertical" command.

*I'm a Knicks fan and my friend is a Pacers fan, so I cunningly extracted a picture of Miller and a picture of him and made them have butt sex* :)

Let me know if you have any suggestions. I fooled around with the stamp tool too. It is really handy for "guessing" backrounds.
