Hey Photoshoppers...

Here's a chance for you to make your mark on the Orange Mane.

On the front page, the banner there could use some work. I think it looks ok, but I can't get Alec out of my ear every week telling me how gay it looks. So I figure I'll get him off my back by opening it up to the community and letting you guys take your shot at it...

So here are the basics:

1. Graphic size is 635 wide by 150 tall
2. The graphic must use the Orange Mane Logo (attached)

The best ones will be used on the front page with a graphics rotator. Let's see your creativity...

I got no creativity, but there are some great peeps on this board.

Will it be open for vote? or yours only?

Yea, that 1 horse in the front with the orange mane does have a goofy looking face. We could come up with something a little tougher/intimidating looking.

rough draft - threw this together over my break. We might need some more 'guidelines' from you TJ (ie are you looking for a new logo? or what?).

This is my 'Salute to MA' should at least be up for a bit - 'the meat' had 3 bad AZZ td's on Sunday and kept those legs going (3 whack's to the face with a frozen meat sledgehammer).

Any lawyers got an answer to that? Hell, I just don't know. I've been told that you can get around a lot of that based on fair use, but who in heavens knows? I guess a lawyer.

I just know that if I get asked to take something down because it infringes them, I'd do it right away, offering profuse apologies for offending them. We're just trying to have a little bit of fun here... ya know?

While we're talking about photoshop, Alec and I have been talking behind the scenes, and he's going to take moderatorship of a photoshop forum here. As the community has grown, there are a lot more people who are talented with photoshop, and we thought it might be another fun distraction.

Are people interested in this? Will we get enough participation? Well, I guess this thread is kind of a test of that. So vote with your entries and let us know that you're interested...

Anyhow the back of it was like a painting of the Rocky Mountains with lightning flashing all around and a white Bronco was reared up on it's hind legs with smoke pouring out of his nostrils and it read Rocky Mountain Thunder across the back. How about something like that?

Yep, Clouds> Difference clouds> Difference clouds> Difference clouds> Difference clouds> Difference clouds> INVERT> Levels> Hue-Saturation> Touch up.

Then just do some FREE TRANSFORM, PERSPECTIVE and DISTORT adjustments, and there you go... ;D

BTW- CLOUDS and DIFFERENCE CLOUDS are two of the most powerful, well atleast, USEFUL commands in Photoshop.

The more I look at the logo with the "horsey" in it, the more I agree with Alex. The 'O' with the mane isn't terrible. Couldn't the official broncos logo be morphed with a flowing orange mane? Nice masking. I like the Grain effect on the BG...

Alot of times when I mask, I just use Layer Masks. That way you can Expand/Contract and Gaussian Blur the mask easily- to get the effects you really want...
I didn't mask. Its just Rod in a layer by himself on top of the image of Rod behind him. I lowered the hue/saturation down -100 and -180 and added a bit of noise with a small gaussian blur. I think put the layer of Rod by himself from the original image in full color by himself.

Great thing about Photoshop, there are a million ways to do the same thing...

I could have vector masked, but didn't even think about it.

Here's another method, getting the same result (though what is colored I chose differently, less work)

Using the simple replace color theme and dropping everything but what you want colored down to grayscale.

I really like that look. The B&W background with the Rod in full color. It really makes the player pop if ya know what I mean. Good job guys. Hey Alec, do ya think you'll be doing anything with the horse, lightening and mountains I posted?

"That look" = selective Desaturation.
;)

Hitting the "D" key, you can use any coloring tool in the MODE>SATURATION option to replace any hue with B&W.
Not hitting the "D" key will saturate with the colours on your palette. Here's and example:

Top = normal background I used in my DQ'ed submission.
Middle = same bg with ORANGE and BLUE set as foreground/background colours.
Bottom = coloring with same tool/mode after hitting "D" key.
13539

The movie Sin City was shot in full color and selectively desaturated afterwards.

If you haven't watched Sin City, presumably you've been living under a rock or smoking one.

Heh, desaturating is much easier. One button. Instead of changing hue and saturation levels all the way down, thats all you have to do.

Good call alleged. :)

We will GreatBronco. When the forum gets set up I am going to be adding at least one new tutorial a week for various things (requests can be made via PM). Hopefully other's decide they want to add tutorials too.

I think the first tutorial will be how to extract part of an image (such as a player on a playing field) quickly and accurately since that is used so much in photoshop work.

I'm not on a high speed connection so limewire is out of the question. ANybody got any ideas? (besides spending $300)

Well there's this that came with my Dell Laptop that I mess around with. I've had the laptop for several months and it's still a free trial. It asks me if I want to purchase it for 59.95 to unlock all features. Maybe you can go out and download it and mess around. I don't know if it's as good as what the rest of these guys are using.

Hi to Orange Mane people.

I love doing stuff in PSP X and love taking photographs. Here's a combination of a sunset photo (orange & blue sunset, of course!) I took at Invesco Field during the Baltimore pre-season game. MA scoring a touchdown and the Mane logo are superimposed and jazzed up a bit

Masking out the stadium and the lights take a hard? Or was it a dark background and easy to cut out?

If you mean the MA photo- I just feathered that one out of the original photo, pasted on a new layer, gave it a very slight bevel and used eyecandy for a glow. The photo of the stadium was actually 3 photos stitched together with Panorama Factory, then enhanced & softened in PSP. No masking done.

So what are you guys using exactly. The wife would like to start messing around with this kinda thing. She mentioned it the other night but said it's to expensive. I say screw that noise. It's Christmas time and I can't take the money with me when I croak as my grandfather use to tell me (God rest his soul). I did a search on ebay and all kinda stuff popped up. Please let me know so I can order her this for Christmas. Much appreciated.
