now that we're into the second half of the season, how do you grade our draft?
i see the Williams and Foxworth picks as being A+, b/c its not often you'll have a 2nd and 3rd rounder start and dominate for you.
Paymah is a B, as he has played, and not too badly.
Clarett is an F. he didnt work outat all, but too bad, we still have bell and mike.
Myers: C he is on and off with us, not too bad of a pick from the 6th round, but not much for us.
Ernster: C he lasted awhile with us, and a 7th round pick often doesnt.
overall i'd give it an A. williams and Foxworth will be amazing in the future for us and i think that paymah will be a good player down the road. How much do the pats wish that they had drafted Darrent and Foxxy??

I'd say it's an easy A right now. That grade could easily go to an A+, but it could just as easily go to a B-. It all depends on how well we use next years draft pick from Washington. Call me crazy, but I'm hoping we trade it again so that we have an additional 1st in 2006. What a lot of people don't realize when it comes to the draft is the benefit of having an extra 1st allows you to do so much in a draft. We'll still have our first round pick, plus we can probably trade the Skins first for a first in 2007 AND a 2nd in 2006. That would give us a 1st, 2 2nds, and 2 possibly 3 thirds. Plus we'd be in a similar position for 2007. Keep this going for a couple years. This team isn't talent starved and I don't see enough need to use both firsts next year...not when you consider the fact that we normally don't go OL early. The one position of need (yet again) for the 06 draft is WR. Hagans, Nance, and Johnson top the list. None of them are big time game changers though. Nance wouldn't be a bad choice nor would Hagans, but chances are one of them will be available with the 32nd pick so we can still ship the Skins first to some other sorry scrub team!!! ;D

I would say A. Moving out of the first round didnt hurt anything, still got the players we wanted, and improved the overall depth of the team.

Yep. 2nd day picks aren't supposed to contribute, they shouldn't even factor into the grade unless they do. What any team gets from those guys in their rookie years is just gravy.

is it safe to say we can forget bout drafting a CB next year? Jimmy Miller or Tye Hill a prospect CB 1st rounder.

Darrent Williams and Dominque Foxworth PERSONALLY have won ATLEAST two games for us this season. Considering they were not first round draft picks, I would take that kind of contribution from a draft ANYDAY.
Therefore, my grade for the draft is a C minus.
... har har har
This draft is an A+ TODAY no matter what happens. We got a top 10 rookie and a rookie pushing for the top ten list that without a first round pick this year. A+ end of story........

Just going by PFW's top 10 and honorable mentions, we have the top two rookie corners in the entire league. Its still hard to believe we pulled that off without a first round pick to say nothing of our recent history drafting at that position.

Yeah, though Darrent would have been a first had not he been injured. The amazing this is how we got Foxworth. People forget Paymah was drafted ahead of Dominique. Shanahan picked him because he fell to us and he "couldn't leave someone that good up there." I remember how pissed everyone was especially when he got picked. After that Q&A at the fanfare with them, I was sold on all of them.
As for Meyers and Ernster, We have to see but I have a good feaing about Meyers. Ernster is insurance against Todd Sauerbrun but its looking more and more like we might be ok for a little while. Todd's been great.
As for Maurice, I see it this way: If you're going to gamble you might as well do it with the last, comped third rounder. You can't hit 'em all.

I have a question. If we had a do over 2005 draft after what the rookies have shown so far. Where do you think Darrent Williams and Foxworth would wind up. Also, which rookies corners will have the best career 1-5.

Hey SoCal we'll be able to see Justin Miller this week for the Jets!!! I hear he is playing pretty well.

I suspect D-Will would have gone somewhere around 10th overall. Foxy would have been in Round 1 somewhere as well I think.

We'll see what your boy can do against us. Hopefully not alot. I bet he would have been a Bronco if he didnt try to incite a riot a few days before the draft. Consensus late 1st round grade, but that incident cost him a good bit of coin.

sounds about right. I heard that if D-Will was only 2 or inches taller he would of been a top 10 pick. His cover skills were that impressive coming out of college. Nobody wants to waste a first round pick on somebody under 5-10 because they don't think anybody under that height can play. I mean look at steve smith.

I wanted him in the draft, not complaining anymore :D
Jets fans say he has fumbilitis on his PR, sop maybe we can get a tO out of him.
A easily. No 1st round pick, 2 top 10 DROY, a future great C IMO, a good punter riding the pine on the PS. The future is so bright we are going to have to wear shades :8

A draft doesnt get better than that A++
Traded out of the first round for a higher potential 1st rounder in 06.
Drafted two starter quality corners who contribute in their rookies seasons who both have all-pro looks to them.
Drafted a project corner with more upside than the two standouts who has seen the field and contributed.
Drafted a classic Bronco lineman on the 2nd day.
Great draft.

He sucks Williams is the best!!!!
Looks like Miller will get his chance. He is starting.
Barrett also sat out last week's 30-3 loss to Carolina after he was poked in the eye against San Diego on Nov. 6. Barrett has a laceration in the back of the eye, and doctors haven't cleared him to play. Rookie Justin Miller will start in his place.

I'm so glad I don't have to explain this crap. How much more are the Broncos supposed to do.
If I had to compare Middlebrooks to Paymah at the same point I would go with Paymah. He will come around.
Myers is on the regular roster. This is a good thing for a Broncos rookie OG.
We got a starting KR and CB in the 2nd round? How did that happen? Maybe it's the water in Colorado.
Isn't anybody going to bring up Clarett? I still give it an A.

Yes it is, he's entering the '06 draft. The Broncos are going to have plenty of picks, no harm in taking a flyer on a guy with the potential as a returner that Bloom's got.

Based on DWill, Paymah, Fox, and Clarett, I would give the draft a B+.
But that becomes an A+ when you factor in we got Warren, who's been a great player for just a 4th rounder (or is that for the '06 draft?)

This is such a no brainer it's absurd. Anyone who doesn't give this draft an A is quite simply unrealistic about what can be accomplished through the draft. To get two starting quality CBs without a first round pick is beyond what you can dream of.
Add a top 20-15 pick in next year's draft, and three other players making the final roster. You've got to be kidding me with anything below A.

I agree with every grade but Paymah. Remember, lots of picks don't even make the team, or get injured, or only make the practice squad and are history a year later. Example: Dorsett Davis. Davis is a C-minus I think, because he wouldda made the team if not for the "Brown-cos."
It's still too early to grade Karl, but similar guys to Paymah for draft grading purposes are Sam Brandon and Darius Watts. 4th and 2nd rounders, neither Brandon nor Watts have started, but both have definitely contributed. They both deserve at least a B- (although if the new "Big Nickel" defense gets us past the Colts, Sam will be upgraded).
Paymah, imo, looks similar to these two so far. He made the team as a 3rd rounder, and has dressed for practically every game as a rookie on a team loaded with cornerbacks. So far, give him a B.

Bloom would be a wasted pick just like Clarett.......NO PROJECT PICKS THIS YEAR, SHANNY. IF YOU WANT A PROJECT, GO GET T.O.
I say go for Devin Hester. I read an article that said he might be the fastest 'Cane ever.
