I know that those times are fudged, but regardless of the chocolatey exterior, our secondary is really fast.

I bet that Clarett could take down a forty faster than any of them.

4.67 seems to slow for Louis Green. I know D.J. Williams ran a 4.45 and a 4.47 before his official Pro Day when he ran an average of 4.54 on two runs. Bell's 4.42 seems high, I remember before the 2004 draft there was an official draft time for him at 4.34 or something. One of the rookie corners this year ran a 4.3 flat which was recorded.

Terrell Owens....Jerry Rice.....Barry Sanders...and even Terrell Davis....

Game speed is ALL that counts. Bell is fast in pads as well as DW, Champ, and Fox. Between them they are the fastest on the team, who is the actual fastest, who really cares???

Yeah...I'm sure Tatum is faster than that...he ran the fastest 40 of any RB in last years draft..in the combine....plus he ran track in college and high school and set records in the 100mm....right?

how about rod smith?

whatever his time may be, the guy has bigtime "game" speed.
he finds a way to get separation, and you dont often see him get taken down from behind.

Until 2 years ago, Champ had the all-time NFL Combine record for 40-yard dash.

no way my man Rod Smith runs a 4.4, but anyways here's an article to back that up. If the doped up Ben Johnson ran a 4.38 officially on a track with a tailwind no way Rod could run a 4.4.

I think that they might all be rookie combine numbers.

Rod may have ran that time at w/ young legs.

I'm don't think players get officially tested for 40 times every year ( maybe at the team level, but unreleased as official measures ).

You are correct Sir, Darrent ran a 4.30 at the combine. Foxworth ran a 4.34 and Paymah did indeed run a 3.5. Tatum running a 4.4 is a joke.

Rod SMith is still a 4.45-4.5 runner Shanahan said he was a around a 4.35-4.4 guy when he arrived and he really has not slowed much at all. SHanny comments on how amazed he is that Rod never seems to slow down much if at all. I heard this earlier this year on a radio talkshow. And whoever said Champ ran the fastest 40 at the combines was wrong, he ran the fastest pro day time which is unofficial he ran a 4.23 according to his pro day, Marvin Lewsi said he timed him at 4.18 and said he is the fastest corner in the league and he thought Newman for Dallas was the second fastest. AS for the fastest Combine time it still is held by Deion Sanders he ran a 4.26 electronically timed forty and around 4.2 according to coaches who timed him manually. Mathis ran the second fastest electronically timed forty of all time at 4.28, but Parcells claimed he ran closer to 4.2. FOr the fastest Bronco I have been to practices and I can say Bailey is the fastest followed by Williams, Walls, and ALexander. Bell also ran 4.37 at the combines, here is the link for that www.nfl.com/draft/story/7121687

One thing I think is amazing is Champ's Brother Boss he ran a 4.35 forty and had a 48 inch vertical, for linebacker that is simply amazing, he is 6foot 3inches tall and 233 pounds.

Surprise, surprise -- another great group of players in this draft. It all starts with the "J" boys -- three Jones' (Kevin and Greg) and a Jackson (Steven). Then add a Bell, a Perry and a Turner (Tatum, Chris and Michael, respectively) and the depth of the group looks even better. And don't forget Cedric Cobbs of Arkansas who ran in Indy but not as fast as expected. He will have a chance to show that he can run better at the two Pro Days that Arkansas has scheduled for the spring. He did have a vertical jump of 40 inches, the best of any running back.
Troy Fleming of Tennessee and Lousaka Polite of Pittsburgh helped themselves with good workouts. Fleming can be a dual position player, either at running back or fullback, which is important because most teams have cut down on the number of running backs they carry.
The fastest times of the group were Oklahoma State's Tatum Bell (212 pounds), who ran a 4.37, and 217-pound Julius Jones of Notre Dame, who was timed at 4.40. Both also had vertical jumps of over 37 inches. Both players added green to their bank accounts thanks to their workouts, meaning they will be drafted higher and get bigger signing bonuses than first expected.

Bailey has like a 4.19 forty in the combine...

Those are team recorded 40's in the offseason or something.

The most impressive of all that is the times of our main linebackers, damn they are fast!!!!

azbroncfan

I'm not into times too much. I seriously doubt that a 4.37guy could catch a 4.5 guy from behind before reaching the endzone if the 4.5 guy had a couple steps to begin with. It all comes down to game speed. As much as I like Lynch he is slow, now that I look back on it it was comical watching him sprint full speed to try and catch TO on the long pass in fact Engelberger looked like he was keeping up with Lynch jogging.
