Is there some sort of unwritten law that every pass thrown to Lelie must be a deep lob? I cant understand why this team doesnt take advantage of his speed by throwing short hitches, seams or even screens. Get the ball in his hands! Anyone have some insight as to why Lelie cannot be throw a short pass?

He doesn't always make the catch on those passes.

not sure, to me it seems Jake just doesnt notice him or doesnt trust him there yet.

He has run much better routes this year so Im also in the dark here.

Ashley is pretty much a deep threat guy. He's a run straight... stretch the field type WR.

I'm much happier with his play now that I've accepted that. Forget that he's a high draft pick, the guy is a nice #2 receiver. He's NEVER going to be Rod Smith. Someone else will have to try to play that role eventually.

I've ragged on Lelie quite a bit, but he's found his place in our offense. He stretches the field and runs deep routes.

Yesterday we saw Plummer spreading the ball all over, and everyone had their job. Rod was the go-to guy, Lelie was the deep ball guy and the TEs were working the middle of the field well.

I kind of equate it to a 3-point shooter that can't buy a basket til he goes hard to the hole a few times and makes a lay up or a few free throws. Just get him involved a little first. Let him touch the ball.

It is only in the past 3 games he has been catching long balls. In the first 6 games there were some attempts, but not successful, so his catches were all for short yardage.

PS Taco started a thread a few days back about Lelie probably wanting to leave because there were not making long ydg plays with him. Now that the team is exploiting his speed people are criticizing that aspect of Lelie's game. He is damned if he does, and damned...

Because that's why we have Putzier, Alexander, and to an extent, Rod. It's the west coast offense at it's best, dink, dink, dink, (to those w/ sure hands) then bomb to the speed!

**** YEAH, LOVE THEM BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!

Plus Rod Smith sucks so much he can't really go deep unless the corner falls down.
