Simmons has an interesting Bronco blurb this week.
Broncos (-3) over RAIDERS
After the Colts-Pats shellacking, I thought about flying my buddy Gus (a diehard Broncos fan) to a log cabin in the mountains of Russia, just so I could give this speech to him in person, but I settled for doing it over the phone because it was considerably cheaper. Anyway, here's what I told him:
"Bill Belichick was like my son. I raised him. And when the Patriots' defense died on Monday night, a part of me died, too. But now you're the one. You're the one that's gonna keep Bill Belichick's spirit alive. You're the one who's gonna make sure that his defense didn't die for nothing. Now you're gonna have to go through hell. Worse than any nightmare you ever dreamed. But in the end, I know the Broncos will be the one standing in the AFC. You know what you have to do. Do it. DO IT."

Its quite a turnaround on opinion.
I was gonna go back to the 1st few weeks of this year and copy-paste what his old takes on the Broncos were, but you have to be an insider to go back more than a few weeks.
I like reading Simmons. The article he posted a day after the Colts beat the Patriots was one of the top 5 moments of Sour Grapes and backhanded compliments i've ever read.

I'm sure it was something along the lines of "Jake is still Jake, Shanny is insane. Basement for Broncos"

He correctly picked the Dolphins in week 1.
He thought it was a no-brainer due to the fact that Nick Saban ( Bellichek connections fully represented ) had all offseason to prepare for Jake Plummer which was followed by a few reasons why Jake is terrible etc...
He did pick the game right though.
Last year he picked against us a lot citing that Vegas and many football fans in general always gave the Broncos more credit than they were due (pt spreads etc.) If he picked every game right last year, we probably would have been 4-12 or so ( against the spread ).

I'm telling you guys - all this Bronco-adoration - HBO, Simmons, the Tuna - this is NOT such a great thing, imo.
We could EASILY be tied with KC in just 36 hours!!!!!!! And Shanny's 2nd half collapses always sneak up on us.
I agree that this team seems different, but I said that last year!

Well, I'd rather read adulation than criticism anyday.
I don't think that it really matters either way as its connected to the teams performance.
The common thought is that players read the Clippings and get too satisfied, but couldn't they also read the clippings and want more respect?
Rice, Elway, Montana, and many current day players have read the clippings and still continued to excel.
Who gets more positive press than the Patsies? Its not whats killing them.
In fact, if the Patsies had the same exact offseason as the Broncos had this year ... they'd be 8-0 right now.
Foxworth and Williams would probably be playing even more in NE than they are in Denver.

Excellent point. D-Will and Foxworth would probably have translated into 1 or maybe 2 more wins there (actually, vs. Broncos might've been one).
I go on their board fairly often, and they all MOAN about their CBs - when Starks went on IR, there were about 10 threads saying "good riddance." (Starks was in the middle of EVERY big play vs. us).
They really want Lenny Walls now.

I was all for flying under the radar this year, but come on, if you play good you get noticed. People see that Denver is playing good football, it's not like it could be hidden from the world forever.

I agree, give me a break guys. We are 6-2 and a fantastic football team that has a weak 2nd hald schedule and should be able to take advatnage of it. The "experts" arent 'that' dumb and should pick us to win, even just based off our record.
This game is very important IMO so we can stay ahead of the division race and keep pace with Indy if we want a shot at the bye/home field.
I cant wait!!! 21 hours, wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Amazing how everyone NOW says the Pats D is dead when it was obvious they died when the Chargers handed it to them in their own house a few weeks ago. Then Denver did it to them on the road. But only since they got beat by Payton and the Colts are they now finished. Stupid media.

this is bad...he always picks against us and i always laugh when i think of how he'll p[ick against us the next week. but to be fair, he normally is right. evben though we win, we rarely cover the spread, like last year we had a span of 4 games in a row where he picked against us every time and was 2-0-2...right about jax, we pushed against TB and SD, and we didnt cover v. Carolina. i love how he's always trashed jake but now he's the "chosen one"

The Peter Gammons Award for "Team with the most tantalizing ifs"
To the Broncos, who probably deserve their own Gammons column at this point. If Jake Plummer can control his mistakes, if Mike Anderson can regain his 2000 form, if Rod Smith and John Lynch have one more quality year left, if Courtney Brown can stay healthy, if they can light a fire under Gerard Warren, if Ashley Lelie can become an elite receiver, if David Terrell can finally find a home ... has any team had more ifs that could potentially result in a fantastic season? Even when you're playing them in "Madden," by the end of a game with six-minute quarters, Madden has you believing that Plummer is Superman, Quentin Griffin is the next Barry Sanders and Jerry Rice still has five years left in him (and Rice and Griffin aren't even with the team any more). Just a bizarre team. And yes, I think this will be the year when Shanahan's head explodes into smithereens on the sidelines.
Also, concerning playoff teams: Dropping out: Pittsburgh, Jets, Denver, Green Bay, St. Louis, Seattle.
