I just talked to a colonel on Fort Hood and he said that they have removed the 1st CAV from the deployment schedule. He said that this is a real good indication that this war might be coming to a close.

Nothing against the Colonel, but I highly doubt it is coming to an end anytime soon. My father is a civilian, and he is leaving the 1st of December for Iraq as an inspector. He will be inspecting the M1s, M119s, M109s, M992s, and all wheel vehicles that are being repaired and then sent back out to fight.
It's good that- that unit isn't being deployed, but the war over there isn't ending any time soon I'm affraid.

1st CAV has been there twice now. They are the largest division to go so far this war.

Never said it was over! He said it was coming to an end. No more rotating Divisions. Ft. Hood is largest military base in the free world. 1st CAV is the largest division at fort hood and maybe in our military. They are not going to deploy like they were supposed to. GOOD NEWS!!!

There's always a chance that Smirky McFlightsuit will withdraw 'X' number of troops and declare "mission accomplished" just in time for the '06 elections.

Not so good news for the 92,000 that are starting a deployment in mid-2006.
Rumsfeld spoke at a news conference with visiting British Defence Secretary John Reid shortly before the Pentagon announced a rotation of forces that calls for the deployment of 92,000 troops in Iraq from mid-2006 to mid-2008.
They will replace a US force in Iraq that has fluctuated from a baseline of about 138,000 US troops. Currently about 160,000 US troops are in the country as part of a temporary buildup for the December 15 elections.
Rumsfeld, however, cautioned that it would be a mistake to draw conclusions about future force levels from the announcement on unit rotations.
"This rotation will help the coalition maintain its commitment to help the Iraqi people, and will also give commanders flexibility as conditions on the ground evolve," he told reporters. "This rotation is just that -- units identified to replace those whose tours in Iraq will be coming to an end," he said.
In past rotations, the Pentagon has laid out deployment schedules for an entire two year period. But this time, officials said it is deferring decisions on the force's make-up until it becomes clearer what role the Iraqi security forces will play.
"This does not anticipate a reduction," said Lieutenant Colonel Barry Venable, a Pentagon spokesman. "What it does is it recognizes there is change in the security mix as the ISF (Iraqi security forces) takes on more responsibilities."
