View Full Version : Favre is worst qb in league in close games

A team[green bay] which outscores its opponents 168-159 should be a lot closer to 4-4 than 1-7. The disconnect isn't just one big win over the New Orleans Saints of San Antonio — the Packers have also lost four games by a field goal or less. The problem is that the Packers are the league's worst offense in what we call "late and close" situations: second half, game within eight points. Favre averages 4.8 net yards per pass in these situations with an interception once every nine passes. The rest of the time, he averages 7.3 net yards per pass and throws an interception once every 46 passes. (For the DVOA-inclined, the Packers are -78.1 percent in late and close offense. San Francisco is the only other team below — 35 percent.) NEXT: at ATL
from foxsports power rankings, which yes is from footballoutsiders.
and denver is sixth if anyone cares.

The Packers' depth at WR has been completely decimated this season. It kind of stands to reason that scrawny Donald Driver and the scrubs they have playing meaningful snaps right now are going to become more ineffective as they fatigue in the second halves of games. Much simpler for the layman to drop all the blame at one guy's feet, though.

Favre should retire, end of story. I'm sick of this never ending "is Favre gonna retire or isn't he" crap that has been going on for four years now.
His gray beard and hair makes him look like the president of the AARP.

While Favre may be losing it in the last minute or two, he is the only reason they are even close with a minute to go. I believe they are down to their 5th or 6th RB and have lost 3 - 4 WRs. I am surprised they havent made a call to Jerry Rice. That team is lost. I like Favre, and I hate to see him end his career this way. But not everyone can be like Elway.

considering the rout that they put on New Orleans, those stats are pretty skewed over 8 games

Football Outsiders assures us otherwise and they have a small sample size of shakey statistical data to back them up.

as has been said
when you have a dude who couldn't start for Liberty as your starting RB
Donald Driver as your go to #1 WR
a patchwork Oline
your second receiver would be #4 on most teams
yeah, I can't understand why Favre isn't doing good this year

I was more than happy to root for Favre to miss The Duke's all time wins record, but the Brett haters around here are making me hope he comes back next year and puts a good scare into everybody.

Brett Favre is someone you'd want on your team
you put him on an Elway like team that Elway had in 1997 and 1998, he would win a superbowl as well.
I want Elway to keep the all time wins record, but it's not Favre's fault the media is all over him and Madden loves him.
Favre is a throwback kind of guy, I'd probably take him over Jake.

Its hard to say what he'll do. I mean he's struggling so much that you wonder if he doesn't stay on one more season so he can go out at least respectably, but then that begs the question of whether he's staying for the wrong reasons. We'll see, I guess.

Only thing is, players aren't interchangeable like Nintendo. There's no way to know by flopping players the same results would be achieved. And Elway didn't make the brain dead decisions late that Favre is, decimated wideouts aside. The Packers TOLD him they were rebuilding, and he still came back. So now what? Three years running, throwing away playoff berths? Let the excuses roll on...

Odd situation there...I hate to say this, and I'm not saying it's entirely true, but Brett has about 10 million reasons to stick it out for one more year...that's alot of gumbo...he's going to have plenty of time to chase catfish...
I agree he doesn't have crap to work with, but his own skills have eroded, including his confidence...when your playing from behind, our own Jake is famous for pressing, Favre might be the only QB that presses more from behind...I like the guy quite honestly, but it's not like they are paying him vet minimum, and he's an icon, so they don't dare insist he takes a major pay cut. I honestly think they want him to retire and are quietly but impatiently tapping their feet...that team needs a rebuild...last year....hell, the Viqueens dismantled them.

With all the bashing before the season with their D being horrible, that unit has stepped up and kept them in all their games. i gotta give props to that side of the ball.

I think alot of the Brett bashing comes from the fact Madden has cleaned his anus for over a decade...and the constant "will he or won't he retire" crap...there was talk Elway would probably retire, but 4 years of this yapping about his retirement...why can't he just retire when he's either done, injured or is cut? Sheesh...
It does seem like Favre might be chasing records while he squirrels away an extra 20-30 million, but people forget they were in the playoffs last year and won the division if I remember right.

how far is he from the Elway's record?
Dunno actually, but I doubt he has 3 Lamar Hunt Rings, Two championship rings, a SuperBowl MVP trophy and literally a truckload of other trinkets....Elway might not have one for the pinky, but he's got 5 rings, and that's a hell of a run...especially with Reeves throttling you...
I'm not a huge historian on players, I'm just what have you done for me lately...well, Brett isn't exactly Johnny come lately or what did you do for me last week lately...If he can parlay the Crush into something fairly profitable, I fully expect Bowlen to hand him a small piece of the pie soon...as soon as that little discretion is forgotten...it would be neat to have him have more rings...
OBTW....Shanahan has a fairly nice collection of rings as well...Sharpe does too...
I mean really, how can't your jaw drop when he pulls his hand out of the jacket and shows three AFC Championship rings and his B2B ring along with the GB upset....
The Duke can throw out a fistfull of real Bling Bling...
Oh..BTW...he's probably got another with the Crush...might not be as fancy, but hes working on his other hand now...Ha! Talk about a legend....

its just as easy to always blame someone else too. which is what pretty much everyone does for favre.

favre has had an amazing offense for some years now. driver is good, walker was top notch, great guards, great rb, good fb, good te, 3 good wr's. I remember that game after his dad died when he threw for 4 tds or whatever, half those balls were jump balls. one would say "he puts his receiver in a position to make a play." if, of course u were being kind.

Also done for the year, along with Ahman Green and Javon Walker. Not to mention the free agent defections of Marco Rivera and Mike Wahle. I'm sure Jake would be having a career year without Rod Smith, Mike Anderson, Kyle Johnson, Ben Hamilton and Cooper Carlisle, too.

He has none of that this year. And Driver is not a good receiver, take your head out of your ass for amoment and stop believing everything you read on footballoutsiders.
Look at Driver's actual play and you will see that he would be in teh Darius Watts category of inactive in Denver, period.

yah cuz we're halfway through the season and he has 600 yards. I'd inactivate him immediately. ur just blustering to try and make ur point sound good. u have nothing, u just think favre is the same qb he was 5 years ago when cleary he is not and has not been for a while. his decline was largely masked by him having one of the best supporting offensive casts in football. yah its a little comical how much of it has left but we can easily see that w/o tons of ppl around him to make plays the mid 30's brett favre throws the ball to the other team a lot.
so should I stop believing ppl who do actual analysis and start believing the sage that is ur stupid ass prancing out bold statement after bold statement in the great tradition of football forum stupidity? it seems intriguing, I'm going to have to consider this.

Yeah, believe "the people who really do the analysis" AKA some little queers from your worthless generation who slapped together a ****ing website. God, you're a dumb sonofabitch.
Hey, stupid, Green Bay had one (1) winning season in 13 years before Brett Favre got to town. Under his leadership, they've been .500 or better each of the last 13 years. The next longest streak of .500 or better seasons in the NFL belongs to Denver and Philly with five years each.

what does that have to do w/ the price of tea in china? yah brett favre was an amazing qb for a while, then after that he had a great supporting cast that made a ton of plays for him and now he has neither. he's still good in that he can still do things other qb's can only dream of pulling off. but the frequency of those has been passed by the frequency of him doing things that make u cringe.
