The Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday suspended Terrell Owens for an indefinite period for conduct detrimental to the team, a catch-all sanction that club officials decided to impose after deliberating much of Friday over how to address the latest flap with the loquacious wide receiver.
Owens will miss the Eagles' key Sunday night game against the Washington Redskins and it is uncertain when, or if, he will return to the team. Under terms of the league's collective bargaining agreement, a player can be suspended for a maximum of four contests for conduct detrimental to the team.
The suspension will cost Owens $205,882 for every game he misses, based on his salary of $3.5 million for this season.
It is not certain if Owens, who was suspended for a week in training camp, will appeal the latest sanction by Eagles officials. Agent Drew Rosenhaus did not immediately return messages on Saturday afternoon.
Rookie Reggie Brown, a second-round draft choice, is expected to replace Owens in the starting lineup.
Critical of quarterback Donovan McNabb and the Eagles' organization during a Thursday appearance on ESPN, Owens issued a private apology to teammates on Friday, followed by a public apology in which he read a terse statement. One team source said Saturday, though, that Owens' apologies failed to fully comply with all of the conditions that club officials, including coach Andy Reid, had stipulated.
Even after the apology, team officials told ESPN.com on Friday afternoon and reiterated later in the evening that the situation with Owens was still under review, and hinted that a suspension remained a possibility. Said one team official at the time: "All options remain on the table."
The suspension culminated another week of unrest with Owens. Early in the week, he apprised Philadelphia officials that he had sprained his ankle in last Sunday's loss to the Denver Broncos, and might require some time off. One day later, he was back at practice and seemingly prepared to play against the Redskins on Sunday night, at least before the latest incendiary incident.
In seven games this season, Owens has 47 catches for 763 yards and six touchdowns.

He thinks he is worth more, well how about playing for less now. Good job EAGLES. It is about time somebody stood their ground with this idiot. I could care less how great of a football player he is.

Skins haven't been able to stop a run to the right side since they played the throw-in and are 1-3 in that timespan.
Shanahan may have managed to not only win our game and improve draft status, but show everyone else how to beat the Skins as well.
I look for the headlines to be along the lines of "Eagles win w/o TO and a return to the run game".
Even the game that they won against the awful 49ers, they gave up a 72 yard TD to the backup HB (Frank Gore).
Win or Lose, Eagle will come to play .... lest they decide to make TO seem more important than he already thinks he is.
I think that we are about a month away from "The Future" and his name is Jason Campbell.
Skins schedule and division could drop them from contention fast.

How many TDs has McNabb thrown to WRs other than TO?
How many rushing TDs do the Eagles have?
And now they get the Skins in DC after they were humiliated by the Giants.
No way would I bet on the Eagles beating them!!

patrick kluivert, a dutch football player, signed for valencia this summer and had a clause put in his contract that the team can terminate his contract if he´s seen in night clubs the day before matches 3 times. contracts are guaranteed here.

Next time the league and the players association meet, the league might seriously need to consider allowing the negotion of this agreement/clause into player contracts. The league controls almost every aspect of a players role in football, I'm suprised they haven't addressed this issue already.
I'm not much of a supporter of the leagues petty rules, but some players conduct has become a serious detriment to the individual teams and/or the league itself. After all, not everyone can play for the misfit Fade.

he'll probably do what he did w/ the eagles. settle for some lesser contract and let everyone know thats where he "wants" to play. afterall he took less to play w/ the eagles remember?
Never know, this could be the type of thing that gets the Eagles to rally behind McNabb and play quality football tommorow. I hope so, for our pick's sake.

The Eagles are running the ball 72% of the time. No team has ever advanced to the Super Bowl running more than 61% of the time. You can't ignore the running game all year and then suddenly decide you're going to just implement it into the offense. Not if you expect to have any kind of success.

That's a good thing for the Eagles. Owens was doubtful to play anyway. Now he's not getting paid, and the Eagles can rally around McNabb. Owens teamates hate him. He's trying to take money out of their pockets.

especially as westbrook is, for me at least, no true running back that can get the tough yards ... i know reid loves westbrook, but he´s more of another receiver rather than a running back for me.

bah westbrook does fine as far as I can tell when they want to run him. westbrook is very talented. I think its more of a problem of the eagles oline, westbrook could be great if the team had a more run oriented line but they dont. the eagles have the largest offensive line in the league, they are just a bunch of mammoth immovable pass blockers who aren't getting to the second level and aren't getting big pushes.

This is just a lost season for Philly. McNabb is playing at 50%. I hate to say it, but it will be merciful when he's finally knocked out for the year. The Owens soap opera is a huge distraction. Reid's penurious cap management is constantly magnified by TO's wailing. I'm sure the media mentioning Philly's $12 million in cap room every day doesn't sit especially well in the lockerroom. Most of the guys either want a piece, or they at least want to see it spent to shore up areas of need.

Well I for one just hope that TO doesn't play again this year. Then I hope the Eagles release him, then I hope that all NFL teams have a behind closed doors meetings to deceide that no team even bothers to hire TO for next year.
I could really go a solid year of football without having to hear TO and his mouth.
On a side note, I would be willing to bet that if he came to Denver for 4 million a year, Shanny and this team would make sure he keeps his mouth shut. I would really love to have his talent out there on the field.
I love the way TO plays, hate his attitude, and he will be gone from Philly by next season and probably in Atlanta or Oakland.
As that is, am I the only one that thought he really didn't say anything that bad in his interview?
He said Philly would be better if McNabb was healthy. That is undeniably true.
He also said that Philly didn't honor him for his 100th TD and he thought it was classless... at least you could have announced it, even if he had only caught 20 of those td's in Philly. Only two players in the NFL are currently in that club. That is true.
He didn't even bring up the Favre topic. He was goaded into talking about it.
I don't think he said anything all that bad... not that he hasn't said bad things before but I don't agree with suspending him over this.

I said this yesterday and too my suprise wasn't hounded and drug under the bus. I guess a lot of people feel the same way. Him saying he was out for two weeks after turning his ankle was more overboard IMO. If I was a teammate I'd be more upset about that then his comments. Honestly though, I don't blame him for saying he was going to be out two weeks. The team shiat on him before and he has a good point when he says (in not so certain terms) that you don't need him b/c his replacement can do just as well.

I wonder if the ravens have thanked the NFL yet? On another note...remember how much it hurt Keyshawn when he did that to the Bucs...and how the rest of the league responded...it took his old friend Parsells for him to get another decent job, and he still ain't gettin paid what he was. Owens attitude finally caught up with him and he better realize that he isn't bigger than the game. Many of the big name recievers learn that over time. Moss did with dante. It takes a good QB to get you the ball on a consistent basis and if you and the qb have bad blood...your in trouble. That and another lesson for WR's...don't talk to Irvin.

Actually, the article seems to back Mock on this one. To quote:
"Early in the week, he apprised Philadelphia officials that he had sprained his ankle in last Sunday's loss to the Denver Broncos, and might require some time off. One day later, he was back at practice and seemingly prepared to play against the Redskins on Sunday night, at least before the latest incendiary incident."
So, one minute he may have to miss some games, the next day he is at practice and ready for Sunday. Maybe the threat of suspension improved his injury.
Yes, he really did say something "that bad" in his interview.

I'm not even trying to defend TO. I just happened to take a look at the article that was written and didn't think it was all that bad. It was media members that put up lines like "Owens thinks Eagles would be better with Favre."
He never stated that clearly, he was asked what his response was to Michael Irvin who said the Eagles would be 6-1 or 7-0 with a healthy Favre at the helm... he said he would have to agree however all throughout the interview he said that the Eagles season depended on the health of McNabb and they would be doing much better had he not gotten hurt. I don't find that bashing somebody but clearly stating the truth. A healthy Favre would be better then a hurt McNabb but he isn't saying thats what he wants... he was asked his oppinion on a statement.
As for bashing the character of the Eagles organization... this is an organization that has shown a propensity to not only low ball their own players and free agents but also toss loyal members to the side whenever they feel like it. You can look at the list of players they have messed with contract wise... Corey Simon, Jerimiah Trotter, Bobby Taylor, Troy Vincent, Duce Staley, and the list goes on... now they have David Akers and Westbrook to deal with this offseason as well. This organization brings a lot of this crud down on themselves, I'm surprised that it has taken this long for somebody to speak out about it.
I'm not by any means condoning the actions by TO across the board... i just happened to think he didn't say anything all that bad with this last interview. It just seems like the journalist was goading him into talking about certain things that the media could manipulate. And... of course, they did.
"TO thinks Favre would be a better QB for the Eagles then McNabb" which is clearly trying to spark the fued between them when it was not what he said.
Whatever. Just another reason i'm happy to be a broncos fan... where we do take care of our own and honor players that do things special. Hell, do you think we really needed to hold that retirement press conference for Jerry Rice? Do you think the Eagles would have done that? The Eagles wouldn't even announce when TO caught his 100 td catch of his career, not a small feat. That is just sad.

Our beatdown of the Eagles is having a ripple effect more than I thought. I figured it was a deep blow but it obviously sent TO over the edge.
Whether or not it was our beat down, which was spectacular, I think that this was coming down the road sooner or later

Slappy, what exactly are you expecting to get for TO now? Do you think that somebody is going to give you a top 5 WR for a player that won't be back until the playoffs... and then may not play even then???
Oh, was I shopping him? That's news to me.

To set the record straight, it's "I couldn't care less". If you "could care less" that means you care some and can still drop in your level of caring. If you "couldn't care less" that means you are at the bottom. You don't have another ounce of caring left to give.

TO has got to be the most overrated idot to ever put on the pads. What a waste of talent, can't wait to see that beyond the glory on FOX. Great talent broke into the league took over for Jerry in San Fran, cried his way to attention with one touchdown catch, claimed that his QB was gay, refused to go to the Ravens, hired an agent with whom himself became gay and are now partners in more than one sense, and we will see the final chapter unfold soon. It was the agreement with what Irvin said that got him in trouble, meaning that if Favre was in Philly then they'd be a better team than they are with McNabb.
And about the organization, the Eagles only loyalties are to victories, they don't need to be loyal to players and coaches and even some fans. This is a business like every other business, they do whatever they need to do to get results and don't need to be concerned about the certain emplyoees as long as the bottom line of production is successful. My job could give 2 ****s about me personally, but as long as I show up and I'm dedicated then they will keep me employed and pay me, but they do not have to put up with me bitching about the company and calling them classless, that would get me punished and/or terminated.
That's how we need to start viewing this subject, from a business standpoint. The organization holds all the cards and the players are merely employees that show up to do their work and get paid accordingly.
Personally, this is the straw that broke the camel's back as well, they've been sick of Terrell's act ever since the offseason hit, with his jabs at McNabb, his holdout, his agent, and now this, I truly think the Eagles just got fed up with this primadonna and snapped this time. T.O. kept calling their bluffs thinking that he can do whatever the **** he wants to do and the Eagles finally called him on it. He fought the law, the law won, and hopefully this will get Owens a new perspective about a job and he'll grow up from this...
...sadly, I don't think that is going to happen.

Actually, it's being said now that he DIDN'T apologize to the team which was one of Reid's requiremnets not to be suspended. Apparently Reid is who made the call on the suspension. Anyone wanna guess when he can play for them again (when his injury heals)?

I mentioned earlier about how he didn't apologize for his actual comments regarding McNabb and the team but rather apologized for complaining about nothing being done about his 100th TD.
Looks like Reid didn't think he did enough. I think he will be gone for 1-2 weeks to be honest, they can't afford just to piss the season away. Who are they going to rely on...Greg Lewis and Reggie Brown? LOL!! If they really do that then I would see what they wanted for claw.

Anyone else find it real convenient that T.O. is suspended when he might have to miss a couple of weeks, anyway?
Anyone think if he were healthy, he'd still be suspended? If it was playoff time?
Please. Nice PR move on Philly's part. Good message to send to player, but nothing more. When bitch-boy can play again, he'll be out there.

that was my first post, you must have missed it. Exactly my point, it looks good for the Egirls and it benefits TO to get some time to rest. He was doubtful anyway. Once he can play, he will be off his "suspension" and back to superstar status. He is a great athlete and w/o him i dont know how a Reid offense can do anything at all.

The only reason they might go ona roll is w/o TO Reid will/should wise up and run Westbrook at least 15-20 times a game and that will give the rookie WR some time to get open.

Oh I agree. I guess the big problem right now is that half of the team is divided to begin with. Several players feel loyal toward Donovan, while others to TO. Supposedly that's one of the factors in thinking they may just leave him out for the season. Right now I'd say its probably about 51% he'll be out for the rest of the year!

Now, there's a scary thought. If KC picked him up, it would be just like Philly, a one man team but Oakland would be truly scary. They'd be like a 97-98 Broncos team in a way. A really powerful offense that allows the poorer defense to gamble every down.
