I feel like ranting about some teams and some conferences, feel free to add in and state your opinions as well, so here goes.

I'll start with the Pac-10 here, where it's USC's world and everyone else is just living in it. Talk about their schedule or the conference all you want, this team has got it together and there is no stopping them from a 3rd straight national title, they have the complete package and are really gelling right now. Their best player though may not be Matt Leinart, it might not even be Reggie Bush or LenDale White, USC's best player is WR Dwayne Jarrett, and if anyone is a drakhose for the Heisman, he sholuld be in consideration. the rivalry of USC vs. UCLA looks to be huge this year, but if you're someone who sits at home on saturday hoping that USC will stumble, then you'll be very dissapointed. UCLA won again, but once again got down big and had to come back to win it, this time to Stanford in OT. Sorry Bruin fans and to those who want USC to lose, but UCLA cannot play from behind and hope to beat the Trojans, USC gets up on teams and finishes them off, UCLA couldn't stop Stanford on the ground and now they're supposed to defend Bush and White? Not happening my friends, USC is coasting to another title.

Big-10: After listening to college analysts talk about coaches on the hot seat, I was surprised that no one mentioned Joe Tiller of Purdue. Is there a bigger dissapointment this season than the Boilermakers? They were ranked #11 in the country at one time and were granted the wish of not having Michigan or Ohio State on their Big 10 schedule, and they completed blew it. 2-6? 2 and friggin 6 when you dont have to play Michigan or OSU? I know teams like Northwestern and Wisconsin have come out of nowhere but that is still no excuse to be a big 10 favorite and currently sit at 2-6 on the year. The big thing though in the Big 10 is that both Ohio State and Michigan have hit their stride down the stretch, and while the game wont be for a national title or probably even a big 10 title, both teams showed weakness earlier in the season and now have both seemed to get the chink out of their armor. The game is always huge and this year will be no different.

Where is the love for the Hurricanes? I'm not Miami fan by any means, but talk about a team that is under the radar right now. The ost their opener to Florida State in a defensive battle and have since just taken over and won every game. They are currently ranked #5 in the country and there is no talk about this team, it's as if they've already dropped 3 games this year. This week though, a Miami win will stir the attention yet again, as they go to Blacksburg to play Virginia Tech. This is dangerous for the Hokies, the roles have been reversed as it's now the Canes coming in with nothing to lose and everything to gain, Hokies HAVE to win as thats the standard they have as an undefeated team, Miami can win this game and be in the title hunt or they can lose and people will say that it was expected, they dont have the pressure on them.

Pretty good post man. You almost can say the same thing about the Big 12 this year you did about the Pac 10. It's Texas and everyone else there also.

It's been a tough year for us Michigan fans, but I'm still stoked for the OSU-Michigan game!

Next to Purdue, Tennessee ranks right there with the most overrated and dissapointing team this year. You're ranked #2 in the country with the biggest loss being your punter, and the Vols sit at 3-4. Unacceptable, especally for the fans standards in big orange country, and it gets worse as UT goes to Notre Dame this week as the Vols wll likely drop to 3-5. Randy Sanders is now out as offensive coordinator, and thank God for Vols fans. A run, run, run gameplan with the occasional dump pass works when Travis Henry and Jamal Lewis are the RBs, but gerald Riggs has never showed anything elite and neither has Adrian Foster, the only thing those 2 have shown is that they can put the ball on the ground during the most inopportune times. In the last 2 games, the Vols have lost 3 fumbles inside the 5 yard line as they're ready to score, thats why Randy Sanders' gameplan of running 70% of the time with no creativity isnt working and thats why Phil Fulmer is taking over the playcalling. Anyone else ready for Alabama to start coming back down to Earth and lose a game? I know I am, I just don't get how they keep winning these games. Brodie Croyle is back from injury and Ken darby has stepped up at RB, but that's enough to beat undefeated right now? Maybe it;s time we start thinking that this team is that good instead of writing them off as a fluke that is bound to lose a game this year.

How bad must it be to be an Oklahoma State fan? You have Texas down and beaten the past 2 years at halftime, then come back out to see the Longhorns absolutely demolish your team. 2 years ago, OKSU gets up 35-7 at the half, then watch that lead dissapear and end up losing 56-35. How do you possibly have a 4 TD lead evaporate to a 3 TD deficit in one half? Then this year, it's 28-9 at the half at OKSU is in gear to win it again, then UT comes out again and next thing you know it's 47-28. Being outscured 82-0 in the the 2nd half the past 2 years is not how you put away a team like Texas, then again thats why they're a top team while OKSU is mediocre at best. I really dont want to get started on NU, but Callahan isn't taking your team anywhere. 14 rushing yards in the past 2 games, I know Bill wants to run a WCO but that looks like spread offense fun'n'gun type stats right there. 3 things are certain in life, death, taxes, and NU running the football down the opposing teams throats...it's time for Bill Callahan to start remembering that. This is the 2nd incident in as many years with his emotional problems as well, last year it was the f'ing hillbilly comments at OU fans, this year it's a throat slash at the refs after an OU TD. Callahan needs to get a grip on himself and on this program or it could be a very short stint as Head Coach.

The big 10 cannot be happier about that either, every conference aside from the SEC needs their big guns year in and year out. It;s great what Wisconsin or Northwestern and Penn State are doing this year, but the Big 10 without a great OSU-Michigan game brings in a big void. Their is no bigger remedy for a down year than that game, its the 2 teams with that national fanbase and the national attention to spark conversation all around the nation.

Same goes for the ACC with FSU, Miami, and Virginia Tech and the Big 12 with texas and Oklahoma, these conference needs their big programs and their big fanbases to consistently be great. Look at the Big 12 this year, Texas Tech being 5-0 at 10th in the country has less meaning than Oklahoma not being ranked, the national media and attention is just not there. The reason I give the SEC a break is because they have enough teams in that country with the fanbases for it to not matter who wins each dvision...Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Auburn, Alabama, and LSU are all big time programs and the SEC is fine as long as those teams are on top.

And while I'm on that topic, I need to rant a little bit more about the "rivalry" that took place this past weekend, Oklahoma vs. Nebraska. Say that its because both team are unranked and that it just wasnt as meaningful, but I'll tell you differently. his rivalry has been killed ever since the Big 8 became the Big 12 and these 2 teams were seperated. I know that there are 2 Oklahoma teams and 4 Texas teams that are all more Southern than Lincoln, but I'm sure there wouldnt be too many that cared if the Big 12 decided to keep these two teams together. OU vs. NU was the rivalry, top 3 in the country and it captivated a national audience because they were good games, but now it's tough to get up and excited for a game that takes 2 years off from playing each other in. The Big 12 had a good idea with the split in hopes of that game meaning even more if/when they met for the Big 12 title in the conference championship, but they failed to think that both teams would have to make, meanwhile if you put them in the same division then they'll play each other every single year. Big 10 wouldnt split OSU and Michigan, the Pac-10 wouldn't split up USC and UCLA, the OU-NU rivalry went down the tubes the instant they were seperated and it hasn't been the same since. Now Colorado is an NU rival? Oklahoma State is an OU rival? These used to be games that I'd set aside Ohio State games for, now I'd be damned if they showed the NU-OU game over any Ohio State game.

Great thoughts Fader. I think it has been a great year in college ball. Those who do not follow it don't know what they are missing. I know you have a vested interest, but I disagree with your comment about the conferences needing one big rivalry. It is fun to see teams come out of nowhere and be a force in their conference like PSU and NW in the Big Ten.
