Major pay hikes coming next year for Champ, Warren, Pryce, Nalen and Jake

Any wonder were gonna be $20 million plus over the cap although if memory serves me right, Warren and Nalen's deals are nulified and they are FA.

I am more than sure Pryce will lead in cap value for our team unless he takes a paycut.

should be around 10-11 mil range.

Now that's something to take care of.

These players won't be back at that price.

Warren, Gerard DT Denver Broncos 6600000.00
Pryce, Trevor DE Denver Broncos 6530000.00
Nalen, Tom OL Denver Broncos 6000000.00
Ekuban, Ebenezer DE Denver Broncos 3000000.00
Lynch, John S Denver Broncos 2900000.00

Smith, Plummer and Anderson will also redo their contracts. Denver has nothing to worry about.

They have a lot of draft picks so that means cheap salaries.

We have 2 first round picks next year. thats going to give us a lot of leverage in ironing out those signings.

Then again, I know ****.

The cap goes up some and every year some backloaded stuff has to be let go or redone. Denver has a truckload of picks next year. It's supposed to be a good draft, it's critical we have a good class.

Tell Roland to get a life and change that name to 'CHAMP' or better yet 'DOMINIQUE FOXWORTH'.

I wouldn't call a single quote that said they approached him about a new deal proof that they've been working on it for weeks, but I hope they have. GW could have told them to go pound sand when they approached him about a new deal.

Exactly who is asked to re-work their contract...among the big $$ guys anyway...will be a clue as to who the Broncos want to keep around.

Smith, Plummer...several otehrs have already been re-worked...and could be done yet again, but they don't factor in the discussion for the moment.

The team has already committed to trying to keep Gerard Warren...no-one has talked with agents for Courtney Brown or Trevor Pryce...yet. It's debateable if the front office ever will.

Both are talented guys, but, as with Reggie Heyward, the feeling is that cheaper talent with minimum drop-off is available every year.

That is derived from a Shanahan comments in February, just before FA opened...and we know what happened shortly thereafter.

As with just about anything in the NFL, the pay-offs go beyond 'what have you done lately' to 'the price is right...or wrong'.

Hopefully we keep Pryce or Brown, it would be hard to fill both their spots in the offseason I'm afraid.

For what it's worth, Shanahan said today at his Monday Press Conference that if he were asked to start a team, he would start by hiring Tom Nalen.

Nalen will be here until he wants to go home

I hope we can keep both big money and courtney. They've really solidified our d line. And Trev's been a bronco so long, it would be hard to see him in another uni. But money talks and with two first rounders, two of the three may be expendable.

You're over-exaggerating the cost of signing a 1st round pick.

No biggie, it seems like a lot of people have a belief that 1st round picks cost a lot to sign and they really don't. Even the high picks aren't that bad. ESPN, CNNSI, et al do a bad job of reporting because the only thing they ever mention is the max money possible when high picks have a ton of escalators built in to their deals.

Pryce is creating a win-win situation for us. He has proven this year that the injury is not an issue at all and neither is age. If he is unwilling to take another pay cut (and he would be an idiot to do so after his performance in 2005 to this point), Denver may very well get that 1st round pick that Ted Sundquist so smugly guaranteed fans in the offseason. If we cant get that, id like him to stay, even at his salary. He is proving that he continues to deserve a high salary. The Chiefs game was an amazing example of that. Warren obviously must stay. He is undoubtedly the single most important FA that needs to return. He has been nothing but a class act so far and has wreaked havoc on the interior of offensive lines repeatedly. If the refs would give him a break here and there he'd have 6 sacks by now. He already has a couple in addition to several pressures. He deserves to get paid, you make room for him, he did what we wanted and he stayed out of trouble. And he has passion, he has leadership ability. You saw him at the sideline screaming at everyone on the defense to get in line when the entire stadium and city of Denver was on edge when it got to 28-21.

Brown is a likely goner. He has been a quality contributor but that option bonus is just too large. Hopefully he will agree to shave it down.

This is the perfect offseason to sign Pryce to a new deal, he's only got about $1.75M left next year from his signing bonus 5 years ago.

Or to trade him and let some other team do the same. Wouldn't only his remaining signing bonus + prorated money hit our cap in a trade? That should work well financially for us.

Warren was pumped up on the sidelines trying to rally the troups. I think the Dline may indeed take less than top dollar. What works in our favor is that CB and Warren both got big time money as rooks. It is harder to sign guys that got 3rd round money when drafted because their 2nd contract is their only real money maker.

The signing bonus and prorated money are one and the same in Pryce's case since he's never restructured (except for his pay cut this past offseason), and yes you are correct. So trading Pryce would not cause any money to accelerate since '06 is the last year he has any prorated money.

Next year for Trev?

Wasn't his value supposed to be around 9 something and he took a pay cut. So his cap doesn't go upward much from the 9 mil cap space he was supposed to take?

And Champ will have a higher cap value than Pryce?

Dang!!

I don't think so SoCal. He has a huge contract and he is past 30. Denver could get a 3rd but teams just don't fork over 1st round picks anymore.

Dallas was reportedly offering a third last year when he had injury concerns and people believed he was on the downhill slide anyway. He has proven this year that he is still a top notch DE that can totally open it up for the rest of the line. Any team can dial up Denver film and watch what he is doing. Everyone saw the KC game and every game. I agree with you that people dont just fork over 1st rounders anymore but he is proving he is still a force. I think Denver would accept a 2nd rounder if push comes to shove.

I can bel;ieve a 2nd but I'm not convinced. I don't understand why teams don't trade players more often. They valure their draft picks that's for sure.

Remember the Rams traded Marshall Faulk for peanuts!!!
