DENVER -- Denver Broncos offensive lineman Dwayne Carswell is out of an intensive care unit, and could be released from an Aurora hospital early this week.
Carswell was critically injured in a rush-hour pileup Thursday morning, when another motorist allegedly made an abrupt lane change. That sent two northbound vehicles over a raised median and into three southbound cars -- one of which was Carswell's.
The 33-year-old, whose nickname is "House," was on his way to team headquarters at the time.
The force of the crash ripped the driver's-side door off his car, and left him with multiple rib fractures, a ruptured diaphragm, ruptured spleen and other internal injuries.
Carswell, a 12-year veteran, had his spleen removed and will be out the rest of the season.
Aurora police cited 22-year-old Marquita Brister, alleging she made the sudden lane change that set off the chain of events.
