I think we are the best team in football for 3 quarters. When we can put a full 4 quarter performance together it should be somethin to watch.

We're clearly number 1 in the Rankings for giving our fans heart attacks in the 2nd half and for sales of adult diapers.

I've got a lot of respect for that Indy team. They are winning in a very scary way, because they're not having to use Peyton Manning. They're playing conservative offense, and only unleash Manning if it's necessary. That's worrisome.
Their defense seems to be pretty good too, though I'd like to see them get tested more.

I think their statistical data points out why. Best guess is strength of schedule.

It is a combination of points and actual victories. It also includes the schedule difficulty.
If you look you will notice the chargers have the hardest schedule, which I agree, followed by Redskins, Eagles, Jags, Chiefs, and then the Broncos.
I think the Chargers are a top 8 team despite their record, they have just faced some tough opponents.

Rankings mean nothing.....I remember reading that this was the Eagles year sometime in the preseason. Also read that new england was the team to beat. Rankings are just a way to get mediocre analysts something to do. The only ranking I care about is our division. If we win our division then we are in the playoffs!!!!!

Ha! Im use to it. I mean every year we are a contender, but the SuperChargers have 5 straight losing seasons then come out as a good team for a year and are now considered the best. Where is the logic?
I stopped caring awhile ago, i respect what the guys say, but they obviously dont watch every game and have a total bias.

In ELO CHESS, the Chargers are #10 and the Colts are #1. But, that gives up accuracy for political correctness. The Colts aren't as good as their record and the Chargers are better than their record.
In ELO CHESS, only winning and losing matters; the score margin is of no consequence,
which makes it very "politically correct". However it is less accurate in its predictions for
upcoming games than is the PURE POINTS, in which the score margin is the only thing that matters.
PURE POINTS is also known as PREDICTOR, BALLANTINE, RHEINGOLD, WHITE OWL and is the best single PREDICTOR
of future games.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The overall RATING is a synthesis of the two diametrical opposites, ELO CHESS and PURE POINTS (PREDICTOR).

I don't put much stock in being #1 in their ranking... not as much as I read into the fact that we've beat the teams they list as 12, 11, 10, 9, 6, and 3!!!
We have one of the toughest schedules and the only reason teams like SD and KC have tougher schedules is b/c we have more wins than them!
I can't tell you how happy I am to be 6-2 at the break. This team is very good. We could eaily be 7-1... but without that Giants Loss I'm not sure we regain our focus. Honestly, I wouldn't mind seeing this team lose one more... for the simple fact that our focus after a loss seems to last for about 5 weeks! Say we lose the Buffalo game on the road. We then go on to win vs the Faid and Chargers to close out the season. Get a first round bye with a 13-3 or 12-4 record... Bounce the (11-5) Steelers in Denver (w#3), beat the Colts (who end up w a 12-4 record and come to DENVER! for w#4), and then pay back the Giants team in Detroit for a SB victory!!! W #5 in a row! I can dream with the best of them!

The reason SD has a harder schedule is because Denver played the Super Bowl teams at home, while SD had to play them on the road. SD gets Indy (on the road) and Pittsburgh instead of Baltimore and Jacksonville.

Two things. First, SD Will make the playoffs. They will probably end up w/a 10-6 record. Second, I hope that we don't go into SD to close out the season w/the division on the line. They ARE a very good team.
This is probably a bit premature but here are my playoff teams from the AFC halfway through the season.
Indy (12-4 or 13-3 record) They have some very hard games in the 2nd half. Travel to NE, Cincy, Jax, and Seattle. They host Pitt and SD. That's a tough draw!!!
Denver (12-4 possibly 13-3 WCS 11-5) @KC and @SD are the games that scare me the most. @Dallas is no walk either. Buffalo is playing better. Oakland has won 3 of 4. The good news, we'll be forced to stay sharp each and every week! Balt and the Jets look like the only easy games...relatively speaking)
Pitt (13-3 possibly 12-4) They could very well end up with the #1 seed. Here's who they have to closeout the year with. Balt, @GB, Clev, @Balt, @Indy, Cincy, Chic, @ Minn, @Clev, Detroit. There is one game in there that I question whether or not they'll win... @ INDY. They may have 5 road games to close out the year, but they're against the right teams!!!
NE (10-6 maybe 11-5) Dillon needs to get healthy. Bruschi brings a lot back to that team.
San Diego (10-6 possibly 11-5) I know a lot of you think I'm crazy. The Chargers have played a tough schedule and their D is only getting better. They have two tough games @KC and @Indy... if they win either of those they'll likely face us with a 10-5 record.
Cincy (10-6) Put me in the category of doubters when it comes to the Bengals. I think they are an up and coming team but they've had the advantage of playing the likes of the Bears, Vikings, and Packers. They still get to play the Lions as well. Don't know about the rest of you, but I'd much rather play the NFC Norris than the NFC East! Anyhow, their 2nd half schedule doesn't look very scary either. They have to play Indy, @Pitt, and @KC. Hopefully they'll lose another one in there somewhere!

Your opponents have won 2 more games than ours have. We have two more wins than you. You're strength of schedule reflects the Broncos having the better record. If the Chargers were a 6-2 team we would have a better strength of schedule. It's not hard to figure out!
As for Indy and Balt, neither one of us has played them yet so they aren't in the equation. You guys had to travel to play a 4-3 Eagles team. We had to travel and play a 5-2 Giants team. I don't see what your point is with that one?

If we went 13-3 I would be shocked. After the shellacking the Giants gave the Skins, it makes it a bit easier to swallow the loss. They appear to be better than we thought. If Foster doesn't get that phantom holding call, we would of won that game. Or if Elam hits the FG. Man, that attempt looked gold and when it reached it's apex it must of hit the cross wind...It totally changed direction. Like a freak gust hit it. Either of those things happen we win...

Most so called experts also picked Baltimore to win that division before the season started so who really knew who would be getting the shorter end of the stick.

If you looked at the ratings Indi has the 30th hardest schedule where as the Broncos have has the 6th hardest. You have to admit Indi has hardly looked liked world beaters in some of their games.

Actually, the Chargers have the second hardest schedule (Miami had the toughest) based on last year's records. Going by this year's results so far, what you're saying is true. This is obviously going to change every week.
I know where you're coming from though. I remember countless Bronco and Chief fans saying they had a tougher schedule than San Diego last year.
As for Indy and Balt, neither one of us has played them yet so they aren't in the equation. You guys had to travel to play a 4-3 Eagles team. We had to travel and play a 5-2 Giants team. I don't see what your point is with that one?
We'll see how it plays out. Everyone is expecting the usual Bronco second half decline. I didn't even think they'd be on top at this point but they're sure playing some great football. Despite having five remaining road games, I see an easy schedule with three tough games left for Denver so I don't see the slide coming unless something disasterous with injuries happen.

SD has a brutal schedule this year and may well miss the playoffs despite being a top 8 team...not that I feel bad for them.
I expect SD and Den to be on top of the AFC west slugging it out for the next few years.
