View Full Version : The season is half-over: Are we better than Indy?

Popps

Let's say playoffs start next weekend and we've got to travel to Indy.

Look at our offense.

Look at our defense.

Look at how each had performed in the last several games leading up to this (hypothetical) playoff game.

Are we ready to go into Indy and beat them?

(Assume both teams are at relative health levels)

I dont think we would win at Indy, no, despite them being more lackluster on offense than past years. I do think it would be a dogfight though. I dont believe there is a significant gap between us and anyone who is possibly above us in the conference. But by the same token I cant say with a great degree of confidence that we would beat Indy in the dome.

Popps, I dont even want to think we are the best in our own division yet. But, if we are looking for a brutally honest answer, then NO. We are not ready to march into Naptown and expect a dominating performance by our club. The real reason isnt because of recent letdowns at key moments, more like the inability of our offense to really control the clock for a substantial timeframe.
That to me is the key to beating the Colts. Keeping them off the field with a nice long sustaining drive and forcing them to scrap their run game. My .02c anyway...

I had to vote Nope... I didn't want to, but I just think Manning is the best QB in the game, and even though our rookies are playing some good ball, I think that he'd definately find ways to beat them with his talent and experience.

Although with that said, it's competitive. If we had to play them, I think both sides would have chances and it'd be close in the 4th quarter.

Health is so key. We have been fortunate with injuries this year. We're also lucky to have some of the best overall team depth we've seen in quite a lot of years! :KNOCK ON WOOD:

Right now, I dont think they can beat Indy in the dome if they were to play there.

But as SoCal said, the gap has closed, but by how much, who knows?

Denver needs to avoid going to Indy in the first round if they were to make the playoffs.

But Denver has the DB's now to at least give their WR's a decent game.

I didn't vote yet.

I want to see is our running game continues to produce long time consuming drives and if our secondary gets healthy. I think we have built a team designed to beat Indy but we need the rest of the season to round into form.

Would we beat them today as the poll asks - to close to call IMO

i think we have the team that can beat indy. i believe indy is good, but not sure how good they are. they do have the luxury of a very easy schedule.
the best d they have played was jax - who held them to 10pts. they barely beat cleveland 13-6. overall they have played teams a combined 17-33.

they may be able to excercise their demons next week against NE - as NE is a pretty banged up team, and not as tough as they used to be.

their schedule does get a bit tougher, as they travel to cincy, jax and seattle, and have pitt and SD at home.

with all that said, i do believe the road to the SB will go through indy. i think denver has a chance if they stay healthy and continue with the mistake free game. they can get pressure on manning with the front 4 - but he could eat us alive in the blitz packages. baily needs to be healthy and the rookies need to continue to get better. having said that, this secondary with the new rooks is still better than anything we've had over the past 2 years.

the biggest reason i think they can take indy is the run game. anderson (to me) is looking stronger. bell on turf could be the second coming of Q at indy a few years ago.

anyway, i think denver has the ability to beat them..but it will take all the horses to do it...

Browncos and the 2 Rook DB's we got ...Wow ..... Now we dont have to get worked up if Champ is out ..... I wouldnt think twice about putting Derrent Williams on Harrison , if Anything ,after the Game Williams will be much better after gettting schooled ....... But , I still think Broncos would "Jack up" The Colts

Quoted for truth as they say

My current ideal playoff scenario:

Division Winners:

Denver (2)
Indy (1)
Steelers (3)
Pats (4)

Wild Card;
Chargers (5)
Bengals (6)

Rnd 1:
Steelers beat Bengals
Chargers beat Pats

Rnd 2:
Denver Beat Steelers
Chargers beat Colts

Rnd 3:
Denver beat Chargers.

Ok...heres my take on this...Indy finally has a Dungy D and Payton has turned the regular O into the Dungy O, which is good for the rest of the league right now, but I'm not looking forward to when its gonna change. But as it stands right now, I think we are a better team they way they are playin now. But I think that Indy is better than they are playing on O and that the scary part.

Rascal

No way could we beat Indy right now.

Not with Champ and Brandon (yes I said Brandon) being hurt and our secondary giving up yards and TD's like crazy in the passing game.

Their defense is still not that good, they are just playing some piss poor teams. Wait till they play the Pats, Steelers, and SD to get an idea of how good they are.

Indy looks pretty good right now, but they've had a powderpuff schedule. Let's wait & see what the next few weeks bring.

And it's too early to start fretting about playoff matchups. There are still plenty of injuries to come in the NFL, and they can alter a team's fortune in a flash.

:alghh: their lack of a tough schedule is embarrassing. Hopefully it hurts them in the playoffs tho when a real team comes play.

I voted yes. I dont think ive ever picked them to lose, so no reason to start now i suppose.

DarkHorse30

Denver's 6 wins are all against top 15 teams......Indy has played one top 15 team, and only scored 10 points against them....and Manning had 1 pick and zero TDs in that game....and waited until the 4th quarter to score points.

You could argue that the Dungy defense has emerged....until you notice they haven't played a team with an offense yet. The rams were formidable until Bulger got hurt in the first quarter. At that point, Rams were up 17-0. Then Homer Simpson's twin brother came in for St. Louis and they stunk.

Bottom line to me is that until Indy plays a real team, we don't know how good they are.

Warning to Peyton fans....the NFL has found another Manning that they like better...and he plays for a team that just lost a football patriarch, and is a legit big market team. Watch those O-line-hold flags start dropping around Eli's older brother.:wiggle:

It's possible in Indy, but as mentioned...the ideal situation if (and they will) Indy coasts thru a pathetically easy schedule, they will emerge minimum 14-2...If we can go 12-4, I think we will get a bye...

Then you hope someone knocks off NE...then we get the championship game at home...but that's so far off, we haven't even broken out in our own division yet.

I have a had time believing any team could win in Indy this year. Doesn't mean it couldn't happen but that dome is one loud SOB and Manning and Co. are on a roll right now. I'm praying that they start to slide. If we do end up in the playoffs and on the road in Indy our only hope is too jump on them early and take the crowd and momentum out of the game otherwise expect more of the same.

Most definetly - we would destroy the Colts.
Extreme lack of homerism on this board.

Step back and be entertained, take off the persimist, analytical glasses for a moment. Enjoy the ride - this team is laying the wood on O and D. Sure there are cracks, but the end result - the big picture, this team is cruising this year.

Can the Colts beat the Broncos - is real the question.

Too many things can happen between now and then. You guys need to keep doing what you're doing which is one game at a time. Keep playing like you did yesterday and Indy's coming to you. We'll try to help you next week but we need Seymour back. Bruschi coming back was a huge boost but the rest of the team played like crap for most of the game.

true, but the Broncos OL is a much better run blocking unit than the Chargers and you add that it doesn't take much to game plan for Marty Ball.

I read nothing into Indy being 7-0 with 9 games to go. Far too much football left, and the remaining schedule contains teams that can actually score consistently and have decent defenses. The conspiracy theorists have the schedulemakers trying to 'help' Payton to a superbowl. i wouldn't go that far, but you gotta wonder at all the cupcake teams served up on a puff plate.

it isnt that bad either ......How about the Giants ? Jax? Washington?

We held LT to 57 yards but he scored on us also ......... Philly held LT to 7 yards on 17 carries ........

I hate to be the one but I think Indy is way overrated, and will be exposed against a weaker Pats team next week that almost lost to the Bills at home and probably should of. I think D Coordinators, most of them anyway have figured out a way to slow down Payton Manning which is why a lot of teams that are not even that good are playing him well this year. To be honest I see our team and I think of Pittsburgh. I think we resemble each other in many ways obviously the two main would be Blitzing, and also commitment to running the ball and also being great at stopping the run. When we see Indy play Pittsburgh we will get a better picture of who Indy really is and a better idea of where we would stand against them.

It pains me to say this but I'd rank the Broncos over the Colts. Of course, it's going to be almost impossible to find a national sportswriter that would rank the Colts at anywhere but number one because they're 7-0.

I've only been impressed with three teams so far this year. Denver, San Diego and the Giants. My team and two teams I despise. Go figure. ;)

Praise from rival is always nice, but right now we not the best team in AFC. We still need to learn that stomp the other team when we're up. Manning knows how put team away.

I guess you'd rank the Colts at number one?

It's kind of hard to gague where the Colts stand since they haven't played anyone yet. Though New England isn't the team they were in recent years, that is their first real test, especially since it's a road game. I think we'll see Indy exposed on Monday night.

I wish San Diego got Indy at home this year. Though I think SD can take them either home or away. We played them last year in their house and we have to do it again? Just like it seems like Indy always plays their regular season games in NE. I don't understand the scheduling sometimes.

Right now, no. Not in their dome. But, if we continue to play well. get the number 2 seed and get to the AFC championship I think we could give Indy all it could handle even in their dome. This team is still finding its identity to some extent and a big part of that is the confidence that only comes from continuing to win. If we roll into Indy as a wildcard or without having won a playoff game I don't think so.

Sure we can if we play our game, with a healthy Champ. We are still getting a good amount of TOs. Last two times we have had half a healthy secondary, not a good formula. Does anyone think that if we rushed for 200 yards we would not have a shot at winning?

I don't think so....but that isn't such a bad thing...

I don't think ANY TEAM beats Indy in their stadium come playoff time.

One thing I like though is our DB's are better equipped to handle their receivers.

Bailey, D-Will, Fox, Walls, Cox and Brandon is much better than
