View Full Version : Sterling Sharpe not sold on Denver pass D

On NFL network, he thinks the eagles will pass up to 70 times in order to exploit the Broncs pass defense. Sharpe says denver was lucky to beat the Pats and Redskins, because their lack of pass rush without zone blitzes leaves them vulnerable to comebacks.
We'll see...the pigeons have NO running game, and McNabb has already admitted his game is limited from injuries. He can't throw the ball from his rear end. !Booya!

B-52s rock!
I have the same concern too and the last three seasons are indicitive of this weakness
Does Payton Manning ring a bell?

I don't buy into this, I think it is a matter of execution. The numbers are skewed because we have been way ahead and basically slacked off. If they execute in the fourth like they have been in the first half, no problem then. Lack of holding penalties have also killed us.

Well Sharpe sure went out on a limb and stated the obvious. Its a combination of no rush and a sh!t scheme prevent and zone blitzing and the offense going three and out.

I agree w/ Sharpe, eventhough there is holding that is not called on every single play they have to find a way to get off the blocks and from what I've seen the Broncos & Shanny are not even complaining to the refs about the holds and until they make some waves about the non-holding calls its going to continue to go uncalled..
and if I see Coyer continually dropping dlinemen (Warren) in coverage the pass defense is going to continue to suck....
my god Warren is best when he is rushing the passer, so for gods sake let him rush the passer and quit dropping him back in coverage... If I was a O coordinator and I saw the dline dropping back in coverage I'd be licking my chops like a rabid dog staring at filet mignon

also considering vs new england and washington 6 of the 8 qtrs of play was without bailey in. course, what do I know. who knew not having the league's best CB could actually hurt a secondary full of rookies. whatever.

And have you noticed how the offense repeatedly is NOT as effective in the second half in every game? Three and out...bootlegs chased down, no running around the edge on cutbacks. Teams seem to adjust, while the broncs stay with a similar game plan. I have a theory why.
And all it would take would be ONE STINKING EXTRA TOUCHDOWN to ice some of these games without them turning into second half struggles. :drown: It's getting ridiculous. :boohoo:

I dont particularly like easing off any team in the second half, even if you are up by 25, you bury a team, you keep them buried. No hope for any comeback. the 97-98 superbowl teams defined this, they got up, stayed up, and made the other team look rediculous. Denver needs to learn to finish. dont be less aggressive, aggressive works. a perfect example of this is the MNFgame vs. KC. we kept after it all game. KC had no chance.

it doesn't take Sterling Sharpe to point out our pass defense is one of the worst in the league, I think any moron could watch any of our games and figure that out
thank you Bob Slovich

The guy is right what's the point?
When you give up 40 points in the fourth quarter in the past three games due to mainly passing of course it should be questioned.
Regardless of how the offense did.

The defense is getting bull pass rush, but no speed pass rush. An edge rusher would be a great help to Denver's d-line.

Never NEVER let up on the Eagles.
Our loss came exclusively from the offense shtting themselves and the defensive line not getting the job done. If we didn't blitz the hell out of McNabb, he would have all day to throw.

The Bronco pass defense will improve statistically now that Bailey is playing full-time again.
It shouldn't be any great mystery why the DBs have been getting burned some...we're playing young 'uns back there.
Even so, they've played very, very well in most instances & the experience will be to the Broncos' benefit down the line.
Tomorrow will be especially interesting IF McNabb does, in fact, toss it up 50 times...I mean, there has to be a couple...few...ints built into that many throws.

And with his injuries, he's VERY erratic these days...can't put his body into any throws. Risky, but that's all the eagles have with no ground game. He's liable to throw up a couple for grabs.

That's because Sterling Sharpe is right. Don't be surprised if McNabb and TO hook up for 3 to 4 TD's. Sure we came off a loss, and should prove ourselves, but c'mon...it's us, the Broncos... we are so known for allowing huge passing yards when we think we've got the game in check.

I think Sterling is completely full of crap. This is a chicken and egg argument, and the fact that Sterling said the Broncos "haven't been able get any pressure" tells me that he's getting his takes from the stat sheet. It's clear he didn't watch either of our games against the Pats and Giants. Brady was getting killed all day, and so was Manning. Yet Butch Davis and stunningly dim-witted yet loud talking Sterling say that the Broncos haven't been able to hit the QB at all. Heady stuff fellas. I seem to recall Jim Nance questioning whether the Pats should get Brady off the field because of the abuse he was taking.
The stats against are passing defense have been dictated by the Broncos. They've snuffed the run, and jumped out to big leads in almost every game. Opposing offenses have had no choice but to throw the ball against us. I agree that some of the scheming needs to be adjusted, but Sharpe is a tool box that clearly has something against the Broncos. I think we need to be more aggressive with our CBs, NO MATTER THE SCORE. I think we will be when Bailey is 100%. If you look at the numbers while he's on the field, they're pretty good.

Good take................it would seem some on here are starting to believe the media talking heads and has been shown many times they don't know much. The fourth quarter effort and scheme needs adjusted. Get a grip people the passing defense is obviously quite good early on or we would NOT be getting out to big leads.

Not to mention Walls has struggled and when Champ was sitting we had rooks on each side. They have played well and will continue to improve. And yes, teams have been passing because we stuff the run and jump out to leads.
The bigger dissapointment is going into a shell late for whatever reason, playing off on coverage...Denver has been outscored 40-0 late the last three games.

Sterling hasn't always been sharpest tool in the shed. I always wondered what could Majkowski have accomplished if he had a more intellegent number one WR.

Sharpe (sterling) always annoyed me with his take on the Broncos...during their super bowl run he made Elway sound like an accessory for Davis, yet Brett was the be all and end all. He even picked against Denver to repeat, which got heat from Shannon who called him stupid. He was.
