View Full Version : What system should we use for rep?

To help faciliate the argument let's have a poll.

Some might see that as TJ trying to flex some muscle and show people who's boss. Some would likely understand. Some wouldn't react to it too well.

I was actually going to wait until Monday to start a poll... It's 5pm Pacific Coast time on Friday right now...
I'd prefer to keep the discussion going so that we can flesh out the positives and negatives of each different perspective because once it's set, it's set.
But this will serve as a decent "primary."
Rascal
10-28-2005, 04:51 PM
FYI....
Like I said in the other thread.
I'm not doing this to be an ass, I made this so that people can voice their opinion and so that TJ can get a feel for what everyone wants to do with a number attached to it.

Nah, it's ok. I think having a primary poll is a good idea.

IMHO, the poll needs at least one more option... "totally ambivalent about the entire issue of rep" (or "Don't care one way or the other" LOL )

One of the football boards I visited recently had the option to disable rep (I don't remember which board it was). This seems like the best option if possible. Those who like rep can keep the feature and those that don't can turn it off. Don't know if TJ's software allows this......

I would understand too... but for the love of god wait until atleast next Tuesday or Wednesday... You know we have to vent about what went well during the Egirl game. If not I'm looking you up in the phone book Meck and venting your way! ;D lol
Seriously though, I think the rep "monster" is turning into a sideburnesque two headed Goon. I don't need the rep bars but I do like to know everyonce in awhile that my posts are appreciated...plus the comments are funny as hell sometimes. I'm a team player so I'll go with whatever TJ comes up with, I just hope it makes everybody happy. To me, this sounds like a bunch of people just coming up with something to biatch about. I don't have any less respect for anybody biatching, but it is pointless IMO.

I don't get why the join date matters much. Yeah I understand that they helped paved the way for what the board is now but not all of them did. I myself feel that the quality of your posts should matter more then join date or post count. Thats just me. I have a hard time dealing with bob, nap, zach, or anyother troll having a bigger rep stick then me just because they joined the board before me. I'm sure there are a few here that think they add more to the board then me and thats fine, they have the right too. Its just not right in my eye. I hate using me for this but I can't think of anyother poster to use besides me, and I'm not sure if they have the same views as me on it anyways. Regardless I used to spend way too much time on here and with my new job, somethings that continue to go on here that I don't like, and things going on in my own personal life my time on here will be very little so I could care less about rep anymore. Really when it comes down to it the quality of the post is the only thing that should matter, thats what I always cared about. Getting rep from rep whoring was one thing but nothing beats getting rep from 5 of the best posters for a well thought out post. JMO.

ya know there is another way to look at this, if you have, as you say, a big rep stick than the guy you rep is the one that benefits not you. You rep him he gets 5 rep points he reps you, you get 1 rep point. Advantage = guy with the shorter rep stick....

hmm...when I voted "don't care" wasn't an option. It must have been added after the fact. Well from what I read this is the initial poll. Man I wish getting to Broncos games was as much as a priority for Omaners as rep was.
If we could get atleast 200 omaners to one game that would be insane. 10 Omaners per section and the new Mile High would surely hit a new high. You may not believe it but it only takes 1 or 2 wackos in a section to get it going like it use to be.
No1Broncosfan is sitting with me in 235 this week. That dude is nuts. Infact Ben we might just have to find you a seat in 234 and I'll hold down 235. Disco has the lower west bowl covered. I think he's in 135 if I'm not mistaken.

Well we would have to review the pics. There was atleast 20 or so at the pre-game bash? Maybe more? There had to be atleast 10 or more that showed up at the tailgate? I really don't know. Like I said in another post it's getting hard to figure out who is who at the tailgates these days. Alot of times people come up to me asking was so and so here and I'll say...Yeah they were here you didn't meet them? *sigh*
I'm going to fix that though.

no points...just a place to leave comments about the post...positive or negative. Points just encourage the type of behavior TJ is frowning upon. The dirty little secret of the rep whoring thread was that it was a form of "scratch my back and I'll scratch yours". You give a person meaningless rep with some expectation that they will return the favor and give you rep...bumping up your point total. These ill feelings would go away if the point system was removed because people who were at or near the top of the list don't like to be knocked down. If there were no points and no list, there would be no problem...

One thing for certain. We'd find out who the hard core Maners are! A lot of the weak assed, no take bums would simply vanish.
What the fvck is the big deal about rep? Really, who gives a sh*t. I don't come here to impress anybody. I just want to discuss Broncos football (and maybe throw some smak at the lesser divisional teams). I enjoy the discourse, but with a few exceptions, I don't give a rosy red rat's @$$ what anyone here thinks of my takes.
TJ is the law around here. You don't like it, I think I can come up with fifty cents so you can call someone who gives a sh*t!
