Eagles claim Cortez from Dallas, release FranceESPN.com news services
Philadelphia Eagles: With kicker David Akers close to returning from a hamstring injury, the Eagles have shuffled their kicking game.
The Eagles on Tuesday claimed kicker Jose Cortez off waivers from the Dallas Cowboys and released kicker Todd France.
It took less than 24 hours for Cortez to find work after he was waived by the Cowboys on Monday. He missed a 29-yard field goal in Sunday's 13-10 loss to Seattle, and is 12-of-16 on the season.
The release of France is surprising since he has kicked well in three games since replacing Akers, who is sidelined with a hamstring injury. France has made 6-of-7 field goals, with his only miss being a block.
Eagles coach Andy Reid has indicated that Akers may return for this weekend's game against Denver.
"If he's not back this week, he'll be back the next week," Reid told the Philadelphia Inquirer. "We will see how he does by Wednesday."

Elam missed a 49 yard FG. Which is not a sure thing for any kicker. He also hit hit a 49 and 42 yard FG on the same day. Cortez missed a 29 yard FG that you would expect your HS kicker to make.
Big difference moron.
Elam has been mentioned as a future Hall of Fame candidate. I am not saying I agree with it, but it has come up more than once.
Cortez has burned bridges every place he has kicked the football. San Francisco, Washington and Dallas. In fact, I still know 3 49ers fans and a Redskin fan that still want to hang him from a goalpost.

Oh, got it. As a paranoid narcissist, I thought you were referring to something I said. Since you are referring to someone else's post, then your comments are not of my concern. :twitch:
My point is that I just don't see him as an upgrade over the guy they had. With his recent history, I wouldn't want to have to rely on him to make a big kick.

What's wrong with ridiculing a kicker who has a history of hooking chip shot field goals that cost his teams' games? Cortez is now a factor in this Sunday's game. He might hook a give-me field goal to help Denver to victory. He's the worst kicker in the NFL. It's hilarious that the Eagles perceive Cortez as a player who can improve their team. I could go to the park in East Los Angeles and find a kicker with better skills.

It's the wrong week for 3rd down conversions smack. It's the wrong week for pass defense smack. It's the wrong week for "we are better in the 4th quarter" smack. But, it sure as hell isn't the wrong week for kicker smack when our own Jason Elam has never let this organization down when it comes to a chip shot. Ha!

Elam missed that kick. I never said he didn't. So we're supposed to get down on him because he also bailed us out by knocking another 49 yarder and 42 yarder when Denver's offense continuously stalled in Giants' territory.
If you need to count on your kicker to hit a 50 yarder to win the game, you deserve to lose.

I think the Eagles picking up Cortez is a curious move if only because France has been unspectacular, but effective in his short run with the offense, however, Cortez is a borderline kicking disaster on most days. When he was with the 49ers, I swear he missed extra points like crazy. Not to mention that he blew two games outright for them. How the hell the Eagles are picking up the bottom feeders from the kicking world is strange, especially since Akers should be back in a week.

:) I think Josie has only missed one xtra point but he's 11-24 from 40-49yds and 22-26 from 20-29yds and 1-2 from under 20yds. He's pretty deadly though from 30-39yds (18-20). He's never missed over 50.............(only tried once though).

Cortez will only be on the team for 3 weeks. Untill they just happen to play Dallas and Akers leg just happens to be back at 100% percent for kickoff duty. He'll be cut the wednesday after the Dallas game.
Even a bad kicker like cortez has to have some knowledge of the offensive game planning.

Green Akers? Not a bad nickname...
Its funny to hear you say that because that nickname was old news 3 years ago here in the mid atlantic. Funny how some stuff doesn't travel well even with national attention.
Cortez was great in the XFL. Doesn't that get him something, like a Burrito?
