View Full Version : Will Watts ever see the field again?

Has he slid that far? I saw Devoe out there, but no Watts? Is Darius finished here? Pryce is the only guy I've seen get out of Shanny's doghouse without a bus ticket in his hand. Uphill battle for the kid, no doubt.

I don't know. I was shocked when they announced him innactive though. I did think that this might be the end for him in Denver.

Devoe plays Special Teams, Watts does not, Sam Brandon was out. I am guessing Watts will see the field again.

Out for 3 weeks with a torn Pectoral muscle.

He's done. For whatever reason this kid has simply dissapeared. He has 2 catches and 22 yards more than me for the season. At least trot out David Terrell and see if he can do anything or give Devoe a shot. Once again we have no 3rd receiver.

Maybe we should just draft somebody who can play.

No, hes not done, i really doubt he is in the dog house. Anotehr reason he was deactive was because Nasty Nate finally saw the field!!!

Jackson gives us a very good threat at the TE spot. Im really glad we have him and i expect after he gets used to the game speed again he will start making some plays.

I'm pretty sure this is exactly right.

If you're somewhere down the depth chart other than first team...and in some cases even then...you had better play Special Teams, and play them well, or you won't see the field very often (barring injury emergencies)

He's not done? What else would you call a catch every 3 games? At his current pace he'll finish with 5 catches for 55 yards for the SEASON. House is doing better than he is. Maybe he should be the 3rd receiver. Face it...Watts is a bust.

I dont really know how to respond. 2nd year in the league and labled a bust already. Im still at the wait and see spot with him, so we'll see. Lelie didnt have a good year till his 3rd season, so maybe we got another of that type.

Why was Dayne inactive?

Tw0mey
10-23-2005, 10:40 PM
Who cares if Watts is done, he won't be a number 1 receiver in this league, and I doubt he will be a good number 2. He's a flop.

10-23-2005, 11:06 PM
Why was Dayne inactive?

I think it was so the team could dress three TE's...specifically Nate Jackson, plus, Dayne isn't a Special Teams dynamo...Jackson..well...is better than Dayne in that area.

TE's were to be a focus in this game plan, but when Putzier & Alexander dropped important chain moving passes in the first & second quarters, it appears Shanahan changed things up.

He sucks...he drops balls...he will be on the roster one more training camp....too much talent, but he's not really gameworthy at this point...we need to get another WR. don't start on the Devo and such...

A real potential #1. Lelie just isn't a number one...We need a Rod Smith clone...I hope rod can hold on for two more years but man...we are pushing our luck here....

I'd give Watts as long as he needs none of our wr's are tearing it up on a constant basis.

I really felt that Bell and Watts were the keys to getting us the offensive spark we needed. I guess I was half-right.

Watts has all the tools. I'm guessing he just doesn't practice well. Shanahan is huge on good practicing and maybe he's not getting it done. He blocked well and caught a few balls in his last appearances. He just must not be doing something right. Too bad. He's got freakish speed and looks as fluid running routes as any young receiver we've had in Denver. Hope he can turn it around.

Watts last catches have gone for first downs. I don't think its safe to rule him out yet. I suspect it has something to do with injuries.

The claw is done. ice him down, cut him up and serve him with a plate of raw oysters.

Seriously though, even if he pans out what do you see out of him? A nice 3rd WR? Lelie is clearly our 2. We need a Michael Clayton/Roy Williams/Andre Johnson type. Big, strong, fast WR. The only problem is I really don't see big time play out of the current WR's in college coming out this year.

Watts will be only be as good as his playing time can allow him. He's not a starter and we don't spread it out much for a #3/#4 to do damage.

Besides yesterday proved we don;t need watts or any WR to line up at X when we have Bell and Putzier. (good calls Shanny)

I only believe this if watts isnt the third wr anymore. which is basically what all the other ppl are worried about anyway. take out a third wr to put in a special teams player? no damn way.

David Terrell while a bust of a top 10 pick is still a fairly talented player and has a good chance of being a very good #2 or #3 WR for you. If he is healthy and gets a chance my guess is he will have Watts hanging out with Q.Griffin next year.

I don't think Watts is done by any means. He showed the potential he's got against Indy in the preseason. He made a couple of catches that you don't see many guys make. The guy runs great routes and always gets open. I think he's just lost confidence and is playing head games with himself. What I don't understand is Shanny not giving him more of a chance after his game against Indy. I would assume that he went back to the old Darius in practice and you just can't afford to keep throwing it to him hoping he will snap out of it. I have this feeling that if Denver gives up on him, someone else will reap the benefits.

He better make it in the NFL as he cannot hope to handle a Spatula with the Claw. You need feel in order to flip burgers & get the hair net just right.

Watts ISN'T the 3rd WR...Charlie Adams is the third WR. I believe that Devoe is the 4th.

At this stage, I think Watts is the fifth WR, in part because Devoe plays well on Special Teams.

Shanahan has said on many ocassions that if someone doesn't practice well, they generally don't play well, and that's if they get a chance to play at all.

The media doesn't get to watch practices...well, not an entire practice, so, having not seen the WRs practice recently, I can only assume Watts isn't practicing well AND doesn't perform particularly well on Special Teams.

Oh how nice it would be to have a consistent go to guy besides Rod, to move the chains. Maybe we can package Watts & Lelie for someone that can catch and run short/ intermediate/ and long routes. I miss Eddie Mac.

So I'm bumping this to the top. 6 weeks ago I was asking if Watts was done here, now I'm pretty convinced it's over for the Claw. Any of the "insiders" have any updates?

PS Still wondering why David Terrell continues to be on the roster. Anyone? Anyone?

Stats for our #3-6 WR's (updated to include Devoe's catch yesterday)

Adams 16
Devoe 7
Watts 2
Terrell 0

Ouch! Lot of holes to fill in this year's draft, but I'm thinking a WR with one of our #1's wouldn't be a bad way to go.

Dear god, I don't want this team to draft another WR project in a weak class. We already have too many of those in Lelie and Watts. The last thing we need is to add another youngster to that mix. That's how you lose discipline and attitude across the board when you throw in a bunch or young guys and expect them succeed. I'd much rather cough up the money for Reggie Wayne.

Watts = Lelie Pt. 2 (or Lelie Lite)

The thing is, he's not nearly as good as Lelie, who himself is a mediocre #2 WR at best.

He is acrually a sophmore and would be scheduled for the 2008 draft, but he probably will come out next year and be a top 5 pick. Unless Broncs go into the tank, they have no chance at him.
