That's exactly what I thought when I got done reading his most recent installment of his mailbag.
Here is the link: http://denverpost.com/broncos/ci_3136284 If you have time to waste, and there is absolutely no paint for you to watch dry, then I challenge you to find one insightful thing in this week's mailbag.
This is my personal favorite - the one that made me feel as if my brains were just leaking out of my head, making me ultimately dumber:
If the Broncos are so concerned about kickoffs, and Todd Sauerbrun consistently booms punts 60-70 yards in practice, why doesn't he punt the kickoff? With no rush coming at him, you would think he could just bust one high and deep downfield rather than these line drives that almost look as if they are going to bounce out of bounds.
-- Steve O., Naples, Fla.
Maybe Jake Plummer could go out and just throw the kickoffs. Sorry, but expect to see Sauerbrun kick off from that boring old tee.

THANKS ANYWAY!
Serious, thanks for the heads up, but I missed it - we're an hour earlier in Seattle, so I missed the big lug by 90 minutes . . .
But I do "stream" 950 all day while working - for any of you outside Denver . . .

You have to register, but other than Jim Rome, it's Broncos talk all day.

He's not a great wordsmith, that's very true. But I have seen him break stories before. And if you check his bio, he's been a beat writer for 3 or 4 other NFL teams.
I'm not trying to defend him, but I've had a fair amount of correspondence with him via e-mail, and once I "fed him" a Mail Bag question he wouldda loved, concerning the Vikings (who he HATES).
When I later asked him why he skipped it, he said he doesn't pick the questions - doesn't even see them. Some editor e-mails him "X" number every few weeks, and he e-mails back his responses.
If you insist, I'll paste his e-mail here.
So - while I agree that was a stupid question, it's not Bill's selection. I thought he handled it OK.

It's not so much that it is a stupid question. It is his answer that is stupid.
The feeling I get with his mailbag is that he considers it a big waste of time - something his employers tell him to do that he thinks is beneath him, or something.
Every answer he gives seems to be a one or two-sentence answer that is almost going out of its way to state the obvious.
The other side of the spectrum is Jeff Legwold of the Rocky Mountain News. He really puts thought into his answers, and I usually learn something new when I read them.

That's true, I'll admit . . . but he has a way to go to catch up with his predecessor, Adam "look, ma - I'm wearing makeup!" Schefter.
IMO, he was the undisputed king of the put-down: "I read your question, Elmer, and now I have a question for you: what color is the sky in your world, Elmer? Now, shut up and read my restaurant review!"
Plus I don't like "alternative lifestyle" people getting all defensive, like his bio said "I've been too busy covering the NFL to ever get married." I know the NFL is a tough gig for guys like Adam, but how about Dave Logan? The rumors on Dave have been around since the 80s.
And how about that Baltimore Orioles player? (I never heard who the guy was, by the way . . .anybody know?) If that guy can play baseball, and Kordell can play football, and Logan can play football and announce football - why can't Schefter be cool?
BTW - even though I joke about makeup, I really think Schefter is EXCELLENT on NFL Network.

Wow, I hadn't heard any of that. But what do I know?
I always liked Schefter. I get, in general, pretty tired of the personal stuff that gets thrown into sports columnists' columns (Schefter's restaurant reviews, Peter King's coffee and travel experiences, Dr. Z's flaming redhead remarks, etc.). But Schefter did a great job otherwise. He seemed to be on good enough terms with Broncos people to always get the story before anyone else in town. Plus, you could "read between the lines" on some of the stuff he said and get a pretty good feel of what was happening behind the scenes.
What's more, he took four or five of my questions over the years and responded to them. In fact, in one, he actually told me that he loved me - something I guess I now take in a totally different way, in light of your earlier comments. Uhh
(I'll have to see if I can come up with a link to the question.)

Well, the link is dead. But I copied the question when I sent it. This is two or three years ago, right in the middle of a late-season swoon.
Do you ever get tired of certain players' obvious disdain for anyone with a microphone? Trevor Pryce is an example that comes to mind. It seems to me that - win or lose - he acts like he hates answering questions. I love him as a player, but he seems to carry an air of pretentiousness that is difficult to look past. My opinion has always been that despite some reporters' ridiculous questions, cooperation with the media is part of a player's job - a job for which they get handsomely rewarded. - Paul, Salt Lake City
(Schefter's response - I was actually the first one listed for the mailbag, so I got the headline for the entire mailbag.!Booya!) Paul, how much do I love you right now! You have read every reporter's mind. I was just commenting to someone the other day that this disdain you refer to from the players seems to be worse than it has ever been. Maybe that has something to do with two bad Broncos losses in the past three weeks. Maybe it has something to do with so many players in that locker room having received long-term contract extensions. Who really knows? When you talk to most of these players individually, they are, for the most part, terrific. Pleasant to deal with. Enjoyable to be around. There's a whole bunch of guys I truly like personally. But when these players are in a group, and feeding off one another's presence, sometimes it's just better to stay away. But we'll continue to try to be as professional as possible and hopefully it is reciprocated.

That is freaking EXCELLENT! I think Schefter was right, though - if they're losing, nobody wants to talk, they're all showing the reporters their backsides, etc...
I must agree with your Trevor observations. In fact, he did 3 or 4 pressers after the CHefs Monday Night game this year (ABC on the field, Schefter on NFL Network, then in the pressroom). I remember thinking that after 8 years, I never knew what a smart, interesting guy he was. So I agree that Trevor must have been avoiding reporters for awhile.
This relates to your Trevor observations because that night was - apparently - his 'comeuppance' game against the Chefs and others for passing on him during off-season trade talks, so he had good reason to talk, talk. He was the "Madden Horse-Trailer Player," and he was ready to talk. He opined about all kinds of stuff (including a thinly-veiled threat that he'll be gunning for John Wellbourne when they go to KC).
We had some raucous threads about Trevor over the next few days (it led to my avater photo on the left, btw - thanks again, [b]Needa Pass Rush[/i]).

I didn't think it would be possible to have more shallow mailbag than the Shysters, but Burger Bill has managed it. Why does the Post keep hiring people that don't seem to get past the kiddie pool to pee? I never thought it possible I would miss Woody and the Shyster...I considered it impossible...Bill isn't condesending, but he's about as insightfull as a donut hole.
