Just read this - to you locals, what's the deal on this guy? Guess he's from Colorado and since I don't watch college football I have no clue who he is. Draft guy says he may go between 4 and 7th round as it sits now.

One word to describe Bloom, speed. Dangerous kickoff & punt returner. Definitely worth a late round pick to a team looking for a return specialist. Can play receiver also.

Then if D-Will continues to start this year I would consider taking a shot at this kid late to replace Darrent on ST's. Broncos' coaches i'm sure have had a good look at him being close and all.

He's one of the best freestyle moguls skiers in the world and he wants to try and play in the NFL after the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy.
Bloom went to Loveland High School before attending CU. He's also a model, which I'm sure will be the butt of many jokes if he makes an NFL roster.

Having seen every time Bloom touched the ball at CU, all I can say is DRAFT HIS ASS! Superior physical skills. Superior speed. Super competitive attitude. Makes things happen. Already a top quality kick/punt returner and has without a doubt, the kind of athleticism that could easily be coached into a top flight receiver. Dwight and Kasper shouldn't even be mentioned in the same class with this guy. Would be a fourth round steal.

Mock - You've obviously never seen him play. He is fearless, smart, has great hands and will be one of the fastest guys in the NFL. Before he gave up trying to fight the NCAA, there was noise of him being a round 2-3 choice. He is making great money skiing and in advertising. The NCAA wanted to take that away from him.

Hell, they did take that away from him at least the football aspect.
I'm thinking the dude has to be a very competitive person, exceptional athlete, knows how to train, etc... just seems smart to me. We've spent better picks on worse projects in my opinion.

If you don't like the kid, fine, whatever. Personally, I have met the guy and had a chance to talk with him about this very subject (The NFL). He stated that he wants a shot in the NFL, believes he can not only make a squad, but be a diference maker.

Bookmark this post if you want: Jeremy Bloom will play in the NFL. He will run a low 4.3 or even some where in the 4.2 range. His balance is uncanny, his determination is unmatched and his will to suceed is unprecedented.

Wtih his speed he'd be dangerous as a 3 or 4. He's 5'9" and has put on about 10 LBs of muscle this year (weighs about 180). Has been working with 2 personal trainers and running 4.2s.
Bloom targets NFL after Olympics
Former CU football star hopes to be drafted after competing in Turin
NEW YORK - Jeremy Bloom is used to bumps in the road. In fact, he lives for them.
For the past six years, the U.S. moguls standout has made a living traversing treacherous hillsides, and won World Cup championships in the process.
The problem is, those mounds of snow aren’t nearly as tough as they used to be. After training nonstop the past two years for the Turin Games, the former Colorado football star is aching for a different challenge.
“I don’t feel I have anything to prove in skiing,” Bloom said. “If I walked away today, I’d do it with a smile on my face.
“In football...,” he pauses, “there’s one more level.”
That, of course, is the NFL — and unlike everything else Bloom has accomplished in his 23 years, it’s no sure thing.
Bloom was in New York on Wednesday, making the talk-show rounds to mark the six-month countdown to the Winter Olympics. But he couldn’t resist talking about his plans afterward. He’s been training at UCLA all summer, working with former Colorado assistant Doc Kreis on speed and conditioning drills in the hopes of getting picked in April’s NFL draft and returning kicks on Sundays next season.
An atypical regimen for an Olympic gold-medal favorite, to say the least.
“Could it be more beneficial for me to be skiing? Maybe, but that’s not what I want to do right now,” Bloom said. “I love being in the gym, I love doing plyometrics, I love running routes, I love catching the football.”
It’s not that Bloom is taking the Olympics for granted after competing in the 2002 games (he placed ninth).
It’s that he harbors an unquenchable thirst for competition. And after a record six straight World Cup victories last year, Bloom wants to prove — to himself and to his doubters — that he can have the same kind of success on the football field.
He wasn’t given that chance in college.
After two highlight-filled seasons at Colorado, the NCAA stripped the dazzling kick returner of his eligibility in 2004 when he refused to give up his skiing endorsements. Those paychecks were the only way Bloom could train for the 2006 games, so he begrudgingly set aside his cleats.
Not anymore. What ever happens in Turin, he’ll walk away from the sport he’s come to dominate with no regrets.

I've been in the stands at Folsom when he's lined up to receive kicks. The atmosphere got totally electric. The guy makes things happen. I don't know what his clock time is, but on the field he is clearly faster than everybody else around him. I really don't know about some of the crap on this board sometimes. Speed cannot be coached or learned. He's a top flight Olympic athlete. You think he couldn't burn an NFL corner? There were many people on this board (including me) who couldn't imagine why the Broncos picked DWill and Foxworth, and now we're beginning to see the power of speed. Barnett was beginning to use Bloom as a WR when the NCAA came down with their idiotic ruling that drove him out of football. I wouldn't spend a 1st on him, but he'd be a fourth round steal. I'll say this right now, the team that gets him is going to be very happy. I just hope it's not the effin Faders.

Bloom has all the skills you look for in a return specialist/speed WR. If he's serious about playing in the NFL then I'm all for drafting him. Obviously you require a contractual out if he hurts himself skiing or some such, but a 4th round pick couldn't be much better spent.

Hmmm...I like the sound of it. He's incredibly fast with good balance and body control. He played football in college and only stopped when he wasn't allowed to play anymore, so you know he has the desire. He's been competing and staying in shape since then. He returned kicks in college, so he could immediately make an impact.
If we got him, he would be valuable as a returner and as a potential WR. The kind of WR that could take a short/mid-range pass and get some YAC with it, which would be good for Plummer. I certainly wouldn't mind the Broncos snagging him.

But I don't think we should draft him. I love Bloom, but he runs just like he ski's. Fast with small cuts. He was barely even touched in college so we don't know if he can take a hit, and with his running style I think he'll take some shots in the NFL.
Plus as a receiver he was behind Hacket and whathisname so they only used him for deep balls. He might not be able to run routes very well.
just my take

McCoy. I don't think being behind one guy that's starting In the NFL right now and another that's on a NFL roster, who were both seniors JB last year can be a bad thing. He would have started last year and this year if he were there. However, you are right, his route running might have sucked, but I imagine that he'd work pretty damn hard to improve it. Also, I don't think the Broncos are the team that will draft him, but he'll be srafted by somebody.

Shouldn't this be in the draft forum? If not, then why have one? Also, not every Bronco fan is located in Colorado, and not every Bronco fan is a buff fan...

Probably a good place for this thread.

FYI - Bloom runs a 4.25 40
Man oh man, if Bloom goes to the combine and posts a 4.25 I'll be here to eat crow. Don't count on it. They said Fabian Washington could run a sub 4.2 40. He ran a 4.29. I would add a .1 to that time.

He's a media darling with the world cup freestyle and just got over an ACL. He won the World Cup.
Pass. I don't feel like giving him a promo.
He plans on skiing in the World Cup again...
Pass.

Bloom inspects agents for run at NFL
By John Meyer
Denver Post Staff Writer
Colorado Springs - World Cup moguls champion Jeremy Bloom is meeting with prominent NFL agents this week and said he plans to sign with one in a few days.
The former Colorado kick returner and wide receiver, who is living here at the Olympic Training Center after spending the summer training at UCLA, met with representatives of Leigh Steinberg Enterprises on Monday. He also has meetings scheduled with California agent Gary Wichard of Pro-Tect Management and Jack Mills of the Boulder-based Ascent Sports Management.
"I should have an agent by next week, and we'll get this process rolling after the Olympics," said Bloom, who stopped playing college football when the NCAA ruled that he could not accept ski endorsements.
Bloom will be a gold-medal favorite in the Olympic moguls event Feb. 15 in Turin. He plans to travel directly from Italy to the NFL combine from Feb. 22-28 in Indianapolis.
Since his summer in Los Angeles,
Bloom attended a three- week on-snow training camp in Chile with the U.S. Ski Team. While they were there, 9 feet of snow fell and the team was able to get only six days of training.
Bloom was on the CU sideline last Saturday for the homecoming game against Texas A&M. The self-described "pop culture icon" has found the pace of life a little slow at the OTC.
"Colorado Springs, it's like its own state," Bloom said. "It doesn't even feel like I'm in Colorado. It's a good release and an escape from everything. I can do my thing, not be bothered and solely focus on the objective at hand. It's a great training environment."

One word to describe Bloom, speed. Dangerous kickoff & punt returner. Definitely worth a late round pick to a team looking for a return specialist. Can play receiver also.
I totally agree! The guy is a demon on returns. A VERY worthy mid-later round draft pick, despite his size (5'8")

He won the World Cup you morons.
He has an acl...he is a skier. What TF are you missing here? Did the stupid patrol come thru? He is zerro chance, or desire...he just thinks he owns the world...honestly, he is a little prick.
Bloom has an acl injury? News to me, but important. Gotta link?
I know he's a world cup skiier, but he's always wanted to play football. And he's hired an agent, for heaven's sake - he obviously wants to play!

Does he have to enter the draft, or can he just try out for any team he chooses, say, one near the world's best ski areas? What are the NFL regs on that?

I believe he's headed to the draft. I would also imagine that he's done skiing fro awhile. That would have to be a stipulation of his NFL contract.

It's not a lie when you're drunk enough to believe it.
To everyone that is sober reading this thread, THERE IS NO ACL INJURY.

He's skiing in the Olympics Einstein and then going to play football.

The great thing about Bloom is that his mogul skiing days just solidified his return abilities. He has this amazing ability to continue running full tilt and twist his upper body. If Crosby stays in school, it could be 2 buffs in one draft...oh wouldn't that be nice.
