View Full Version : Should we trade Walls now?

Any chance we can trade Walls for some kind of conditional pick this April? He is an FA at end of the year. I would rather see us get something for him rather than just not sign him. We have one more week before trade deadline. Even if Champ is out another 2-3 weeks I would prefer to see KP out there than Walls. Not sure the status of Roc is he on IR? Anyway just thought it would be nice to get something for him now rather than let him walk away next year.

Yeah, there will be a sea of calls from other front offices about trading draft picks for a guy who has fallen to #4 on the depth chart.... ESPECIALLY since his contract is up at the end of the year... are you retarded?

That was harsh, but Walls has zero value .... but seriously as no4 corners go, it could be worse. Let's hope they can coach payma up fast. Alexader got torched, and he shoudl be embarrased to take a paycheck considering the hammy champ is playing with.

Why does everyone around here Have a Stick up their ass this week? it is a freaking question I am looking for your Opionion but I guess you would prefer to call each other names so if that is the case you can wrap your lips around the base of my Love Pole.
My question obviously was not stated at below the 6th grade level like the newspapers have to do so here it is again:
Do you think we can or should trade Lenny Walls before the trading deadline in order to pick up a low round or conditional pick or just let him walk away at the end of the year.

Tell you what - if Shanny can swing a deal for say, a used Yugo - i'd jump on it. As a matter of fact, my cousin's flag team lost a corner last weekend - if you can get me in touch with Walls' agent I may have a gig lined up for him until the dude is healthy and can return.
Seriously - well see above cause I am serious - let his Ray Charles blind ass walk at the end of the year. God knows with his lack of awareness we'll have to show him the door.

I have a trade question... doesn't involve Walls though.
What would you say if we trade ASHLEY LELIE and a 2nd in next years draft for ANQUAN BOLDIN?
Personally I think a player like Boldin would be the best bet for a future Rod Smith replacement. I hate the thought of it as much as anybody else...but Rod can't play forever. Honestly, I think Boldin is another TO in the making...minus the headcase part though!

I was hoping we could stock pile enough picks in order to move up in the 1st round & get a playmaker. The Washington pick is going to be high teens or 20's & not do us much good unless we package other picks/players to move up. I would love to have Boldin but I still like Ash as our #2 I would prefer to find a way to get/keep both guys on the team. But what do I know...

i dont think the Cardinals will go for that one. We can prolly trade Lelie and a second for Mike Williams though. I think we should save our 2 number 1's next year for the oline and try to acquire a WR via trade or FA. What i would like to see is we trading our 2 number 1's and the following years number1 for Leinart (sp).

If we move either of those 1st round picks it had better be for a proven, young stud WR like a Boldin, Chad Johnson, Andre Johnson etc... - FAT chance any of those teams would move those guys or anyone else established of that nature
Or...
Use the picks to move up and snag a franchise QB for Shanny - not Jake - to mentor.

won't be 2 olinemen. Orginally I thought that if the Skins pick was in the top 10, we'd see both offensive tackles and defensive linemen. I think Lepsis will stay, but Brown is gone, and maybe Pryce too, so a defensive end would make sense, as the studs go early in the round. And, then we could find an athletic guard late in the round. If Wash is out of the top 10, that's less likely. If the skins keep winning, I can see shanny trading down.

Is this a possibility? The two worst teams this year will prolly end up being the 49ers and Texans and neither having a need for Leinart. Trade up to either number 1 or 2 pick for our 2 number 1's and the following years number 1. Have him sit on the bench for a year while he learns the system. I think he is by far the most talented and proven QB that has come out in the past decade.

I'm a firm believer that Broncs need a couple of young guys to bring along on the DL and my preference would be they get one with their first pick this year if one is available. Leinart is the only QB with first round talent this year and if you believe SI, there are some scouts that don't even believe that. Broncs needs that can be filled early are DL, OL and a pass catcher. Wr would be best, but if a TE phenom was there, it would make sense.

I like Stanton from Michigan State, or Broyle from Alabama. And neither of those guys will require a first round pick (or at best, a low first rounder). I think Leinhart will be an excellent QB, but why get into the massive money contest that forces you to cut some of the meat from your team just to sign them, and especially keep them, like Payaton is doing to the Colts? I'm just hoping the Broncos can use that first pick to get a real, bona fide, offensive weapon. I don't care whether it's at WR or RB. Look what a guy like Hines Ward does for Pittsburgh? He pretty much won that game for them last night, single handed. What the Broncos really need, IMHO, is a receiver who can go over the middle, always catch the ball, and then get big yards after the catch. So far, Watts, Adams and Lelie all seem to be "catch the ball and fall down" WRs. I don't know if that's because of their style, defensive play, or Jake's inaccuracy. YAC is the stat I want to see. The Broncos need that playmaker that not only makes a difference on his own, but at the same time, forces defenses into weaknesses in other coverages. A PLAYMAKER! (Does the name Shannon Sharpe ring any bells?)

We don't have any control of what Shanny does or doesnt do. But as fans, would trading 3 1st rounders for a QB like Leinart be too much or is he worth taking that risk. With all this doom and gloom about Jake, we should be taking this chance.

It would be interesting if the 9ers, Texans, Green Bay were the bottom 3. None would be likely to take Leinhart and they'd all benefit from trading out. Someone's gonna have to overpay to get in there; whereas the last few years, you couldn't pay someone to take that #1 spot (just ask the 9ers).

I think the Anquan Boldin scenario is more likely than the Mike Williams scenario. Rogers is probably gone from Detroit after the season. He's already stated that maybe the Lions should let him walk and look to another receiver. I wouldn't mind bringing Rogers in, but I don't think he's the "answer".
Brandon Lloyd will probably get big money from San Fran, He's a GOOD player and one of the few playmakers on that team. They should have money for him next year too!
Reggie Wayne could be the answer. I'm not in awe of him and would prefer a guy like Boldin. If the ball is catchable Boldin makes the catch. He runs good routes and gets yards after the catch. He can take a 2 yard pass and turn it into 20, but he can also go down and make that catch 40 yards down field! The Cards have Bryant Johnson and Fitz so they may be more inclined to swing a deal. Remember that Denny Green loved to just heave the ball deep to Randy Moss... you know that Ash will give him some of those opportunities. Then a 2nd round pick on top may be enough to push him over the edge to go ahead and make the trade.
Other than those guys there isn't much available. What we need is a Hines Ward type WR. A hard worker that blocks, gets first downs, has great hands (especially if we hang on to Jake) and can make a play after the catch. Maybe Reggie Wayne is the answer. He seems to have reliable hands. He can run after the catch. Don't know about his blocking though. Also don't know about his attitude. Maybe somebody like SoCal can enlighten us a bit.
One thing is certain. We need to bring in a bonafide star. Not the lame brain crap we've brought in the past. Sooner or later Shanny is going to realize that one superstar is worth a shot every now and then. That does not mean bring in Arnaz Battle and pay him superstar money. That means bring in a proven guy (Boldin, Wayne, Johnson) and pay them the money!
Ash and our later first would likely bring in Andre Johnson... I'd be game for that.
Oh, and lets make something clear. I have nothing against Ash. I like his game, but it's obvious we aren't going to use his abilities. Why on earth would he want to stay in Denver??? He's one of my favs but right now we need the heir apparent for Rod Smith and Ash isn't that cat!

It's people seeing that Ashley is struggling with the intermediate routes and we don't have much longer before Rod retires and we would have to elevate him to #1. He's not ready to be a #1 receiver yet - still needs to work on his hands and confidence on short and intermediate routes.
It's all just fun 'what if' or ' let's play GM'. I'm with the crowd that is thinking about Rods replacement and the fact that right now Ashley himself would benefit from a team that primarily throws the ball. In a system like that he could grow much faster so he may go in as #1 on a team like that. Think Minnesota, Atlanta, Philly, teams like that. Hell GB right now for that matter - didn't they just lose their wideout for the season?
Williams is unproven however - he's a rookie - i'd be hesitant to pay him any amount of franchise type money. Boldin, Andre Johnson perhaps, Brandon Lloyd - guys like this are hard to get tho. Those teams don't want to mess up any chemistry that may be there.
Any way - I think Ashley would do great in one of those systems that likes to take the shots downfield often. We do it, but, I think Ashley would be good for 85-90 a year in that type of system.

I'm sure that if Denver tried they might get a 7th from some team. Look how terrible the Cowboy, 49er, Packer, Saints secondaries are. Walls isn't terrible. Since the Miami game has he even given up a TD pass?
That being said Denver needs to keep him for security. After the last 2 offseasons. Denver should =keep all the depth they can get.

Yeah trading Walls right now is a GREAT idea... think about it. He's played so well we could get a first rounder for him! And it's not like we have a history of having an injury depleted backfield come January... so lets do it!

I would gladly give Lelie and our second rounder next year for Boldin. Who is his agent and how many years are left on his contract?
Id rather he and Jake just got a little more confidence in each other. Ashley is extremely talented... he's done more than the stats reflect... beautiful basketball TD catch Sunday and the onsides recovery... couple GREAT runs against KC, and he hasnt complained publicly yet. Thats a good guy in my book. Try and get him some deep balls when we can and hell bloom even more when he has to... when Rod retires.

Yep - he's playing pro bowl level about 60% of the time on the strong side and the rest of the time on the weak side. Covering tight ends like a wet blanket, which he did not demonstrate last year. His tackle totals are down because Broncs now have a functional DL.

Agreed - the height enamored people...many people - myself included.
His awareness and inability to locate the ball while it's in the air is what I don't like about him. That and the fact that he hasn't grown at all it seems in terms of development. He's makes the same mistakes he always has.

That's actually not a bad idea but we've run out of time with him. We would have to bulk him up and teach him to tackle. Being at FS he'd be able to see the field better - should be able to find the ball when he doesn't have to turn his head around and find it.
I'd be worried that he's not physical enough.
His time here is done - he'll start for someone else and maybe he'll get better. Right now tho, we have 2 rookie corners who are better than he is after x amount of time in Denver.

Yeah, I sure noticed Darrent didn't play his best game of the year, but not a peep of a rip on Darrent. Lenny already manned up and said he lost concentration earlier, that's half the battle. There's plenty of room for penalties on DB's, those guys get whistled for anything these days. My original point was that after this year he is Unrestricted FA & will leave town unless Pat pays him a boat load of cash he has not earned. I thought the way Shanny has been moving & shaking he could dump Lenny for a conditional pick 5-7(?) - get something for him now that the Rooks are playing well rather than cut/let him walk. I'll give you that right now he's better than Paymah...or more likely the same. Foxxy is already better and shows 10x the promise! If you want crap penalties on 3rd downs to keep drives alive...Walls is your guy. Go back and watch or review the game log from the Jags game. The jags went backward in yardage a couple weeks ago...yet they got TWO successive first downs b/c of Walls. I think that's when Shanny finally decided he had enough of Lenny!
For the record... I'm not saying to keep Lenny or cut him. I'm still on the fence when it comes to him staying or going. But, I am sick and tired of seeing him jump up and down like he just returned a pick 99 yards for a TD when the QB underthrows an open receiver that he was supposed to be covering!

What the F are you talking here? You're the guy that starts the "OSKIE........SCORE" threads, and now this? You're speculating with this baloney at 4-1? The best 3-phase team in years, and you're speculating with a 6 paragraph post to dismantle the team now?

Dismantle the team? Hmm, reading comprehension apparently isn't your strong suit. I'll keep this short and simple so you can keep up. Rod Smith is on his last legs. Maybe another year or two, but he isn't what he was 5 years ago...nor do I expect him to be. So we need somebody that can come in and be that #1 go-to receiver. If you call suggesting that we trade one of my favorite players (Ash) dismantling the team... whoa, talk about taking a post out of context or not understanding the meaning of dismantle!
As for my Oskie threads. What does that have to do with this? So b/c I support the Oskie Karma I cannot have an opinion on the future of this team?
Ask yourself this question. Will Ash remain happy in an offense that throws the ball his way 3 times per game? He'll ask for a trade himself! Do you know why? B/c 3 opportunities per game will never give him the success he's capable of achieving, and without that success he'll never get his big payday. He's a class guy and I love him, but even Ash will want his pay day when the time comes. If Denver his limiting his potential at that pay day he'll bounce in a hurry!

My question obviously was not stated at below the 6th grade level like the newspapers have to do so here it is again:
Do you think we can or should trade Lenny Walls before the trading deadline in order to pick up a low round or conditional pick or just let him walk away at the end of the year.
I think we have a chance THIS year.
Champ is looking a bit fragile. DW is playing like a veteran, but although the others are great for rookies, they are still, um, rookies.
Trade value low right now. An area we are fighting injuries and inexperience. I am not a Walls supported, but I say keep him for at least reasonable security. If I thought we were headed to 8 - 8 I would say different.

As terrible as I feel he is - I wouldn't let him walk until the end of the season. If before the end of the season it would take a 3rd rounder to give him up right now. We need the depth down the line - he's a liability IMO but he still has starter experience and i'd like him as depth.
