Interesting quote from Tater:
"You can always find a running back in this league, but finding a shutdown cornerback like Champ is hard. They don't come around too often," said Bell, who finished with 127 yards on 12 carries. "Champ [who missed his second straight game because a hamstring injury] will be back when we need him. I think we got the better end of that deal."

Well after this game I was more than willing to say that the Skins are legitimate and a good, solid team, but now that ESPN is agreeing, I will say that they just happened to play a good game today, mixed in with 3 crappy games.
J/K :) Although I really hate agreeing with ESPN.
BTW, notice how we win the game and advance to 4-1 and continue to shove it in the media's faces and all they can do after this game is say "the Redskins are for real" and all Clayton can say is "Denver struggled".

Oh &*%$... whenever ESPN or the national media gives skins props we mess up. Sound familiar? I respect Clayton though. I would listen to him before I listen to anyone else on that station. Him and Mort. That's it. Reading the board though, I think a lot of you actually were surprised at the skins play. Better than you guys thought right?

Broncos might have struggled a little bit, but I was encouraged. The reason is they need to win these types of games. This is a tough team and we witnessed it today. The Redskins are a tough team to play against and this bodes well for the Broncos season. I see great things happening this year. As long as they stay focused, this team looks like they really care. It's amazing what happens when the players want to play. These guys are showing intensity consistently...which has been missing for a quite a while now. Im excited about this Broncos team to do great things. I expect the skins to stay in the race all year long. We'll see if they can clinch a playoff spot.

Yep. Gibbs has that offense disciplined. Thank goodness we got a win today with our offense stuck in the mud.

I think the Skins are for real. Their D is tough and it seems like Brunell is rejuvenated and playing much better than last year. They kept the chains moving today pretty consistently.

How different would this game have been if Jake could hit a receiver ---> to early to tell with the skins. I don't think their defense is as good as we made them look today. Their offense had the ball the whole game, so, of course good things could happen there. ESPN is so damn fickle - all week they have been up on the Broncos, now with NE coming to town, we'll all hear the bullshiat flowing again all through this week.

Definitely better than advertised. Moss was getting open like crazy, Brunell didnt look like the old man of last year and the D is phenomenol.
They will be a contender in the NFC and winning in their division will be key for them.

yea...I mean the Redskins this year are really similar to last year's Broncos on offense. They can move the ball up and down, but they struggle in the red zone(except Brunell doesnt throw those Plummer INTs :cuss: ). They have been better the past 2 games in the red zone. Hopefully that continues.
Im really really encouraged with the broncos. Maybe it's because i know how tough it is to play the skins punishing style. I'm impressed with the mental toughness and competitive streak on this team. I'm more psyched about the O-line and Bell. They are telling the opposition "here we come!" and they can't be stopped right now. You guys really don't see how frustrated offenses are after they face the skins. Hopefully, they bottle up Preist and cry baby. I really believe if they stop those guys, KC is going to have a tough time scoring. Tony G. is frustrated and Trent can be rattled. As "bad" as the skins O can be hmmm... I think they can manage against the KC D. They better tackle better though next week. It was very different to see the skins D miss some tackles.

This is a game we would have lost last year. I think the Redskins are solid and that is why I predicted 8 wins for them before season starts . The way NFC East is right now 10 wins is also possible as long as Mark B stays healthy.

Denver needs some serious hands coaching for their receiving corps. There were some serious drops in that game. Lelie had 3 really big ones on 3rd down that I can think of and Rod Smith had 2 others on third down. I know that the weather makes it more difficult or not, but those guys need to make those catches.
I think its obvious what Denver chooses with one of its top picks in the next draft.

Their defense looks better then the Broncos made them look. No excuse for those 2 running plays at all, not much you can do against perfect blocking and missed tackles but while I'm sure it was tough for the Broncos to play without their starting CB, we played without both our starting CB's.

Yea that is one of the holes on the Broncos. The recieving corps needs to be upgraded. In all fairness to Rod and Lelie though, the skins dropped a few too. Moss never drops anything and I believe I saw 2.

Yes I'm getting sick of the weather philosphy. we lost to Sandiego last year because our passing O couldnt get it done in the rain, we lost to Oakland because of snow, miami this year with the heat, Jax last year cause of heat, nearly lost this year to Skins cause of rain.
I blame it on the ball boys, is it so hard to get dry towels damn it? And why don't plummer wear a glove in the rain? Booooo

The one thing that pissed me off about the game was them keeping everyone back on the line all game. That max protection with two or at most three receivers going into patterns has got to be exploitable. It seems too easy to an answer.

I agree we need to draft more WRs. But, We have the wrong QB to invest in too much of the passing game. Our QB doesn't always give you your due as a WR, in fact, most of the time you have to come back and earn a ball from Jake - this just doesn't do well for rookies. Inconsistency and inaccuracy just kill a WR's confidence and faith in their route. If we are going to invest in any WR's, we need utility receivers much like Eddie Mac was. In short, we shouldn't waste our top picks on WRs. Let's get a great safety or more Oline and save the WR till the 3rd & 4th rounds.

funny how we rip San Diego then Diego beats a depleted Pats team and they're ahead of us in the rankings and talking heads.
The chiefs media darling role has worn off a little but it's still simmering. We beat their top notch offense down but our D hasn't really got the respect because of the nature of 'stat monkeys'.
We flopped in week one against fish. Yet now the fish are getting more respect but we still get no quarter for that loss.
We shut down the Jags great running game to a franchise record low 12 yards. And then turn around and put up nearly 200 yards against their vaunted run D. But I didn't really hear much about that around media heads. Did anyone else?
The skins bring their A game and played very well and lose. Of course they now get the media respect and chants 'they're for real'.
in all this.... were is the Broncos besides winning and 4-1?

Jake's alchohol level from the night before was telling his core temp that he was warmer than reality. He just had a bad, bad, bad day and at least he got it over with this week so we can hope for improvement this week.

I disagree.
Jake looked great when he had a younger Smith and Sharpe to hit when he needed plays. Right now, Jake's only real option is Rod. Lelie is only good on speed routes. We need a legit TE and a legit possession WR with some big play ability.

Jake needs to loft more balls over Lelies head. Ash seems to do better at the incredible over-the-head circus catches than the easier ones for some unexplainable reason.

Sorry, but Jake absolutely stunk it up today. With the conditions its hard enough to catch balls, and adding in Jakes overthrowing or putting the ball behind or above or in front or low on the receivers was the nail in the pass game coffin.
I hope he got it out of his system. Jake gets a B today for his management of the game and not turning it over. His Passing rated out as F+. Total D+ to C-. Too bad Lelie couldn't pull in that long pass in the late 3rd or early 4th, but the defender made a great play. Best long ball Jakes thrown this year. :juggle:

Can't argue with that...the post game "well, the ball was slippery" mantra didn't play for me after Brunell lit it up with 300+ yards.
I guess we have to face the fact that Plummer will never be a hell of a lot more than he is right now...maybe a moment here & there, and a few we'd just as soon forget.
I was one who believed he'd grow some in the Shanahan school, but he just seems destined for mediocrity, or perhaps a notch above.

...Is Shanny unhappy with Jakes play?
I honestly don't think he's UNhappy. I think he still believes Plummer can grow in his system, but at this stage, I also don't believe he harbors any belief that Jake can be elevated much beyond what he is.
That's reflected in the game plans as they unfold; toss up a couple of long arms early & hey, maybe you get lucky. At the very least, you get the opposition conerned...then run the ball up their a**.
Only when the running game creates a game situation where the defenses are guessing will Shanahan begin to open up the passing game.
Hell, he said as much during one of his recent press conferences; "We're a running team", "We use the run to set up the passing game"
The good news is that Shanahan doesn't seem to be resting under any illusion that Jake can do more than he's allowing him to do right now.
The bad news is: That isn't really the kind of QB play that wins championships...Trent Dilfer & the Baltimore Raisins the obvious exception.

Washington fans are basking in the newfound "Respect" from today's loss, but all it will take to make it all come crashing down is a loss to a crappy team or a real poor showing vs a decent team. The draft pick still has potential to be good espescially if WSH starts reading their own press clippings.
That tells you right there how much good opinion Denver is building right now btw, that "undefeated" WSH is getting so many props for keeping it close with us.

I think anyone who didn't walk away with a healthy respect for the Redskins after that game is delusional. Joe Gibbs has that squad playing like a team and not giving up, even when they're down. And much to my chagrin, they've got the players on offense who can make miracles happen in the fourth quarter, and they've proven it more than once.

To be the champs you got to beat the champs. I personally agree with San Diego being ranked ahead of us despite us beating them. If we want to move up, we have the perfect opportunity this week. Beat New England and make a statment. Lose to them, and make a statement.

It is 1/2 a win. Until we beat them in their house it is a draw. Same goes for KC. Last year we beat each div rival to start the year, then proceeded to lose to each.
Im already hating the fact that we lost to an afc team and SD and KC lost to an NFC team (and us, but again at our house).
