View Full Version : Can the Broncos continue to win without a pass rush?

No way the Broncos beat the Patriot without a pass rush from the D-line. Brunell had all day to throw the ball. If it weren't for the rain in the 1st 3 quarters, they would have scored more than 19 points.

What do you mean? Brunell had enough time in the pocket to scan the field several times and then some before throwing the ball. I don't see the Broncos picking up a win if the pressure remains the same from the D-line.

4 games - good rush, no rain
5th game - rain a factor on getting footing??? i think so. But we will see. I also think the SKins line is A LOT better than i originaly thought. Also Brunell was running to the left all game before the rush was even there, afraid of the push up the middle? i dont know.
ALso with the Pats starting a couple rookies on the OL im not too worried.

Actually, the SKins have a pretty decent O-line. its much better than what people give them credit for. quite frankly, if Lelie catches that bomb with 6 minutes to go this game isnt even close. the pats game will be tough as well as most of our schedule, its the nature of the beast but we shall see.

Most stupid thread ever. Everybody who watches this league know all teams have some games that are pretty close. Good teams find a way to win these games. Don't think this game will in any way paint a picture for what will happen next weekend. Oh and if the steelers were playing anybody else then the Chargers I will find great joy in seeing them get their asses kicked, and if I was you I would make a stupid comment about there effort at home against the patriots before their bye week and because of that you have no chance to win tomorrow, but I know better then that.

Are you kidding...OMG...we have an awesome pass rush...even on a wet day....Warren got the big sack like it was a college game...I don't care that they threw a flag downfield....we where getting held all day....we force intentional grounding....illegal forward passes...holding out the ass. Our d-line is good....and getting better every week. Oh...and with rookie corners all over the field...dude...our D is badass. They make me moist.

We had a pass rush, but you just didn't notice because our DL were too busy getting tackled to the ground by the Skins OL after they beat their man, and of course, the refs never called the holding penalty.
I'm not too worried about our pass rush too much as I was last year.

Yeah at times it looked like Brunell could sit back in the pocket with a beer in one hand and football in the other. You know why? Plummer wasnt touched either today by Washigton's tough front 7! Could it possibly have ANYTHING to do with the driving freezing rain blowing at a 40 degree angle all day? Sitting in your living room it may have looked like a normal day at the beach, but this was anything but pass rush conditions.
A D-line is always a step slow off the line in such weather as both teams proved today, and the Skins were using Max Protect all day and going after our rookie corners as their best chance and a smart strategy as it turns out.
We'll be all over Brady next week without Todd Lyght, after we stuff their run in the first half.

I saw this. They would beat the the blocker and attempt to make a cut to the QB only to have their feet go out from underneath them. On top of that, their was so much holding that wasn't called tonight.
Like I said... disappointed that the weather was allowed to be such a big factor for both teams. Would have really loved to have seen this match up when the playbooks were both fully available. Such is life.

Waffle you are an idiot. Most of the passing plays were short drop backs and you aren't going to get a pass rush in those situations. And then when it was a long drop back our D-line would have had pressure if they weren't getting held all the freaking time. That was one of the worst officiating games I've ever seen. I lost track of how many times I saw one of our lineman getting held rushing the passer and it was blatantly obvious...I honestly don't know how those idiots on the field couldn't call it.

There no way you watched the game. The rain was worse during the 4th then rest of the game. In HD you clear saw the players visors and ball getting soaked. Plus there was pressure, but the wet field slowed down the broncos speed. It wasn't pretty but it was win.

People keep on talking about the lack of pressure, but on short passes it is up to the coverage hold up.
Then we can talk about pass rush.

Last week, we were talking about how well the D-line has played. Today, like others had said, the 'Skins were going with short passes. I'm not worried about the D-line. We don't have our starter in the secondary, and dropped Al Wilson into coverage most of the day. When we are healthy at the CB position, it will help our pass rush. We can stunt more and blitz Wilson and the rest of the linebackers more.
Last week, we stopped the run and made the Jags a one dimensional team. The D-line was able to tee-off on Leftwich. Today Washington stayed balanced throughout.
The D'line will be alright.

Exactly. They max protected, ran 3 step drops, and took advantage of conditions that were favorable to the offense. You are overstating the lack of a pass rush. They didn't have a great day, but neither did the vaunted Redskins pass rush (zero sacks).
If this trend were to continue into several more games, yeah I'd be concerned. But its one game and the exception so far this season.

Plus Warern had effectively ended the game on a 4th down sack of Brunell before the blind ref threw the first flag on Paymah which was a total joke. It was David PAtten who has shoving Paymah on that play and not the other way around. Anyway, pass rush is tough in those conditions and our D had been on the field all day at that point and we still sacked Brunell nulified by the idiot refs.
