I guess eveyone gets an Elam thread. This one is mine,

Jason Elam is one of the great kickers in the HISTORY of football. Right now his stats compare with the very best.

By the time he is done none will be any better.

I still think Rich Karlis was better. If for no other reason, because the guy kicked with a bare foot. In Denver! How hard core is that?

Karlis was great and awesome too. I mean how many times can a kicker hit the goal post in one mediocre career??? He must have the record,

When was the last time Elam missed a game winning kick?? I have no clue. The only ones I can think of were blocked. Elam is great I can't believe this is even a disscussion. It's kind of embarrassing actually.

LMAO! I guess it's a skill like any other. Did I mention that the guy kicked without his shoe? That has got to hurt. I can't even go outside in the winter on my front porch to get the paper without my shoes on. But this guy kicked footballs. He even had imitators kicking without shoes. I don't remember who they were, but I recall seeing them.

After his barefoot-in-the-snow-to-win in Cleveland (The Drive) I'll throw some props to Rich.

He was just trying to make up for the two kicks in 1984 that could have won two different games that hit the friggin goal posts!!

Well had he missed the Cleveland game, Elway would have never had "The Drive". Makes you wonder, huh?

The barefoot thing is truly bizarre, when looked at in retrospect. What possible advantage could it give you? And he had to play in some snowy games! I used to try kicking barefoot when I was playing high school football, just to see what it was like. It was, to say the least, unpleasant - especially when the temperature got below about 50 degrees.

Who else kicked barefoot? Didn't Tony Franklin of the Eagles do it? And I vaguely remember a Cowboys kicker, too.

I was there when Dan R66v6s had one of his goons literally break Jason's back with a cheap shot on a kickoff return, 40 yards away from the football. He laid on the turf right in front of me while they brought out the gurney.

I remember that game. They were blown out, and Shanahan said after the game that he was worried Reeves would think we were trying to run up the score, going for two after every touchdown.

Those were the days. I miss worrying about things like the other team thinking we were trying to run up the score on them.

That's one for sure. I thought the Cowboys had one for a while, but I sure remember Franklin.

Mike Lansford of the Rams did it. I found an NFL films segment on it - kind of interesting. There were also some punters that did it for a few years in the 80's.
