This defense has speed. Was watching the Jax game and noticed just how fast our D-line has become. We are getting real pressure this year and its not just brutely shoving the O-line back, its speed. Courtney Brown got two big hits on Byron that game because Trevor stunted outside from the DT spot and took the guard out of the middle, and courtney popped the OT and sprinted into Byron's face. They are doing all these cross stunts and delayed stunts just with the front four sometimes and you can't do that without athleticism and speed.

If you look at the speed in this linebacking core and the corners and the speed on this D-line, omg i wish Monte Kiffin was our D-coordinator, what he would do with this defense. I know, Coyer is good, but if we had Kiffin, the question is not if we are a contender, but how many rings shanny gonna have? :)

I agree that the style of defense we're running is reminiscent of vintage Tampa Bay, but I'm satisfied with Coyer at the controls. The key is the large stable of active defensive linemen. Those speedy linebackers become way more effective when they're able to roam free and make big plays. They're able to do that when opposing offensive lines have their hands full with our front four.

The key now is getting better and staying healthy......

I'll be delirious if they get any better. I would be satisified if they can sustain what we've seen over the last ten quarters.

So true. Better is asking too much. We'll win almost all our games if we keep playing like we have. The problem is that every September we look really good and seem to be legit. Then along comes October and with it a "weak opponent" that we play down to. We lose and that lose seems to take the wind out of our sails. The rest of the season we look above average and play catch-up finishing with ten wins late in the season.

Tomorrow will be telling. It has the elements of a game we might drop or play down to. You see, I could forgive a loss to the Eagles or the Patriots (Not both, though ;D) for obvious reasons, but its the loses to the Kordell Stewart Bears, the Bengals of last year, and to a team like the Redskins this year that really piss me off.

I will say that the team seems different this year. We're winning games more decisively and not giving away any opportunities for comebacks. Remember how we struggled against Tampa last season? We barely pulled that one through and look where they finished. Remember how many yards we rushed against the Jags last season? Look how we handled them.

Anyway, how we play tomorrow will tell us whether we're still in the post Elway funk or not. If they play like they have been, it will be domination.

No, I'm not. My next game will likely be the Raiders game Christmas Eve.

Good comments...yes...there seems to be a new life in the defense...

I can't say the same for the offense tho...

The big difference between this start and those is turnovers. We looked dominant on defense the first quarter of the season the past few years, but we were all left scratching out heads as to why we weren't getting turnovers. This team seems to have a knack for "ball-hawking."

I agree, though, that the Redskins game is going to be telling. I have a sick feeling about it - if nothing else, because I am paranoid after some of the recent performances you mentioned. It is a game we should win - handily, by NFL standards. But it's a game we haven't won in recent years. I'll feel a lot better if we come out and win by 10+ points.

I'm the same, though replace "sick" with "nervous". I'm so used to seeing the same results every October that its making me batty. They ARE at home this time and they're coming of a big win, so I'm hoping the fans reward them...and punish the skins.
