Funny, they both talk about the offense like it's the part of the team that has been keeping us in games. Theismann doesn't even mention the defense.

Mike Golic
Contender: The Broncos are on the fringe because they are in a tough division, but they are playing great offensive football. Quarterback Jake Plummer is doing a magnificent job of managing the offense this season. He's making smart moves and is relying on his head and not his athletic ability to make things happen. Defensively this team seems to have made the right move by importing the Cleveland Browns' defensive front line. They've done a great job containing the quarterback so far this season.

Joe Theismann
Contender: The reason the Broncos are a contender is due to the normally excellent running game being complimented so well by the smart game management of quarterback Jake Plummer. Denver is getting extremely intelligent play out of Plummer. He's making the correct reads and showing the type of patience that the Denver organization has waited to see from him for the past several seasons. The Broncos are already 2-0 in their division after beating Kansas City and San Diego, which gives them a great head start on potentially winning the division.

Mike Golic

Pretender: The 'Skins aren't quite good enough to get it done offensively. They have an excellent defense, but that isn't going to be good enough in the tough NFC East this season. They have a Giants team in the division that has an offense that is firing on all cylinders and they have to deal with the Philadelphia Eagles, who are always dangerous. Washington has to get their offense on track to stay with these divisional foes or their season will fall short of the playoffs once again.

Joe Theismann

Contender: While the Redskins may be a contender, I still would like to see more production out of the offense. The past few weeks quarterback Mark Brunell has done a much better job getting the ball downfield to his receivers. The 'Skins have an excellent defense that does a great job of stopping the run and keeping pressure on the quarterback. But the offense must help out by putting enough points on the board so that this defense won't constantly be relied on to win games. This week the Redskins are playing a very good team (Denver Broncos) and must find a way to consistently score.

I know that the defense is the better unit right now, but I can understand taking note of the running game. I mean this is a dengerous team when running well, and almost 200 yards 2 weeks in a row is huge.

We did more than just "import the Browns"... though most media blabbermouths will be too short-sighted to see that. How about trading for Bailey and still retaining a top running game? How about drafting D.J. Williams? How about signing Gold and drafting D. Williams? How about the return of Pryce, in addition to Wilson, Lynch and the other talented players our staff has assembled?

Not bad for an idiot like Shanahan.

What a joke these clowns are though.........Mind you the name of the piece is Contender/Pretender. They broke down six teams (Bengals, Broncos, Dolphins, Giants, Buccaneers and Redskins)

Golic said they were all contenders except Redskins and Dolphins

Theisman said they were ALL contenders.

Wow, way to go out on a limb there Joe.

Golic is a tool.

Really, other than Schlereth, I dont like any one of those "experts" at ESPN. And the only reason I even tolerate Schlereth is because he helped us win back to back Superbowls.

Honestly, only a moron wouldn't mention the defense holding last weeks team to 12 yards.

It was comical.

Mike Golic makes me bleed from my eye sockets. I would rather listen to Joe Thiesmann than Mike Golic.

Actually, I would rather get an anesthesia-free root canal than listen to either one of them, but that's me.

Joe Theismann is alright because everyone knows not to take him seriously. Everyone accepts that Joe is just like that.

btw, Dom, what do expect from the Avalanche this year? Forsberg is my favorite player in the nhl, but they had to let him go. I saw they lost in Edmonton, but what are expectations in denver this yr? The caps will be bad, but Ovechkin is just pure filthy.

I like Joe Theisman. Maybe that's a character flaw of mine Ha! but I find him entertaining and much of what he says is right.

I honestly have never had a problem with him. I understand some of the analyst hate around here, but Joe never bothered me.

Not many people in DC like Joe either.. His pick of the Skins for the Super Bowl was totally to ingratiate himself with the fans and redeem the stupud comment he made about Darrell Green (doesn't belong in the Hall).. He was almost lynched for that..
