An article in the DC Examiner by Stink. He seems to put the local DC crowd on notice about their team.
By Mark Schlereth
Examiner Columnist
There's an uprising in the nation's capital.
Euphoria is circling the beltway at warp speed. The Redskins' start is their best in 14 years.
And we all know what happened 14 years ago.
But even a flux capacitor hooked to the back of Redskins One wouldn't bridge the gap between the two teams. As impressive as this start has been, there is no way the current Redskins can conjure up the images and success of the 1991 world champions.
Yes, the Redskins are 3-0 for the first time since 1991. Yes, they're playing exceptional defense.
But that's where the similarities begin and end.
Lest we forget, the 1991 team led the league in scoring. The offense was a well-oiled machine able to run or pass with equal efficiency.
The 2005 Skins offense is gathered on penitent knee heaving hail mary's into Dallas' midnight sky and praying for the best.
The actuator of the 1991 team was a group affectionately known as "The Hogs." Names like Jacoby, Bostic and Grimm provided leadership and a nasty attitude that yielded only nine sacks in 19 games and could have advanced the ball against the Russian Army in the dead of a Siberian winter.
The 2005 Redskins offense resembles a 2.5 horsepower Briggs and Stratton motor whose pull cord snapped off during the first tug in July.
The 1991 Skins had Monk, Sanders and Clark fighting for receptions.
The 2005 Skins began with Coles and Gardner fighting for their release.
The engineer of the 1991 party train was Super Bowl MVP Mark Rypien, whose alacrity and penchant for the big play always had the offense steaming down the tracks.
The only visible tracks of this 2005 offense are the ones left behind from the John Deere backhoe that Joe Gibbs used to exhume the career of Mark Brunell.
I know what you're thinking: hater in the house. Yes, I did play on 1991 team. I am certainly biased, but a hater I am not.
I'm a realist who understands how difficult playing and winning in the NFL is. I'm not here to squelch your hopes. I'm just here to curb your enthusiasm.
To compare this Redskins team -- which has three victories by the cumulative total of six points -- to one that won the Super Bowl is ludicrous.
So continue to root, root, root for the home team and raise your glasses high. But quit comparing a team that ran roughshod through the league to one that's simply running rough.

The Redskins are really overrated.
They beat the hapless Bears and scored only 9 points.
Then they got some "once-every-ten-years" luck against Dallas.
I'll give them some credit for beating Seattle.

To be fair, nobody in DC is talking about "The last time we were 3-0, we won it all!" Such talk would is beyond asinine. We are excited that our team is winning. Beating the Behrs, Dallass and Shehawks by 2, 1 and 3 points, respectively is still 3 wins.
Just to put things in perspective, the Dallass game was not 2 "hail marys". They were two designed plays that, luckily, Roy Williams couldn't defend. Our problem hasn't been that we couldn't throw, it's been that Gibbs & Co. wouldn't throw. I think they've loosened up a bit on that though.
As for the 1991 comparison, it's preposterous and nobody in DC not in need f thorazine is even suggesting that comparison. If anything, there is a comparison to 1982, where the media and the whole league gave us NO respect, which served as motivation to get better.

He does look pretty good, doesn't he? He really dropped the "playing weight" well. I thought he'd turn into a broken down old man about 2 years after he retired, b/c all those surgeries. I remember seeing his pic in the Media Guide - maybe 10 years ago - and he was wearing glasses. I thought, "he sure LOOKS smart." But of course with the O-Line it's impossible to tell.
Maybe with NALEN you can tell - he went to private Catholic Boston College . . .
But Stink?
He was a HOG, after all.
And Idaho?
They're the VANDALS, for heaven's sake!

Also, I agree w/ BnG - This team has may parallels with the 1982 team, not '91.. Not even sure where stinky got that idea, other than people saying this is the first time since '91 that we have been 3-0. Never heard anyone compare us to the actual '91 team..

I'd say barely beating a pathetic Bears team (a team with a rookie QB btw) and only winning 9-7
getting lucky that Holmgren was an idiot and didn't try to win the game more aggresively and having a kick just boing off the upright

I'm not the one who felt the need to strike out at another poster and invoke racial overtones in the process. And nobody is calling you or the vast majority of posters here racist, so lighten up Francis. There was one poster who had to respond that way and then another who had to cheer him on.
