View Full Version : Serious Questions: Will the Redskins Score More Than 21 Points In A Game This Year?
GonzoLays

So far the Redskins have managed 9 points VS the Bears, 14 points VS the Cowboys, and 17 points (OT not included) VS the Seahawks this season. They have not rushed for a touchdown yet they consider themselves to be a "smashmouth" type of offense. Their QB is Mark Brunell, the same Mark Brunell who could not hit the broad side of a barn last year. Both their receivers make Gary Coleman look tall. They don't have a TE to speak of. Their offensive line is more fat than physical (hence the zero tds on the ground this season).
Out of all the teams we have played so far this year, this one scares me the least. YOU KNOW they will not score more than two touchdowns on you the whole game. In fact, the for the first 7 3/4 quarters of football this season they DID NOT score a touchdown.
So the question is, will the Redskins score more than 21 points in a game this year?

Yeah, they will break 21 for sure. Bound to get lucky eventually right??
None the less, this is going to be a really tough contest for the Broncos. Mark my words.

Im going with yes and the only reason I can come up with is they get to play the KC chumps. Even the skins horrible O should muster 21 against that squad. ;D

Will their defense give up more than 17 points this year? Of course they will, but why stop asking stupid questions?

Cooley had six TD receptions last year. That's three times as many as Jeb Putzier has had in his career.

Will their offfense score more than 21 in a game - I doubt it, but they could get lucky with a turnover for a very short field or a defensive TD to put them over that total.

Uhhh, Coley plays out of the backfield Old Dude. Robert Royal is the starting TE.
That is kind of like considering Kyle Johnson to be a TE. He is not, he plays in the backfield.

As long as we beat them, they could score 200 points.

If you guys think this game is going to be close, then you are kidding yourselves. They have played Chicago, Dallas and Seattle this year. They could only beat a Kyle Orton lead Chicago Bears team by 2 points AT HOME.
No way this game is close.

I don't know if any team has ever gone a whole season without posting 21...especially one with a good defense but I see them averaging around 13-16 a game...poor mans Ravens team with all D/no O...

I disagree, i mean i hope im wrong. But i just see the team struggling against a disciplined D that is very good. I see the Broncos winning, but it will be tough and come down to FADER's favorite player. Elam! ;D

I just don't see how they are going to move down the field on our defense. They have small WR's, and we have small cover corners that will hound them over the field. We don't have to play a big nickle with Sam Brandon because they don't have a TE you have to respect. That means we can keep Dj Williams and John Lynch in the game for run support. And if you take away the Skin's feeble running attack, just like we did with Jacksonville, you know their passing game won't beat you at all.

That is what im hoping as well. As i stated tho, its the defense that worries me. I know OUR D should dominate, but their defense is very disciplined and wont fall for silly tricks. It will be close beacuse of the defenses, and as i said before Moss scares me the most and a one big play could be the difference.

Sounds like a load of sour grapes there Gonzo. I would have expected something a little more inteeligent from Broncos fans (that is meant as a compliment to the fan base).
Yes, at some point we might hit 21, but who really cares? 3-0 is all that matters to Skins fans. We've had teams than ran up and down the field but couldn't make the points stick on D... That is worse in my opinion.
Rather than taking personal shots at the Skins WRs (who are doing just fine), maybe you could provide a little insight as to the Broncos secondary with/without Bailey going against our group? No, that would be too much to ask right?
No TE? I hope your coaches think that as well. I' take Cooley and Royal over most TE combinations in the league. They don't catch a ton of balls b/c we are a run first team, but this just further illustrates your lack of football knowledge.
I don't think this is the week the offense will breakout, but I do think there is a possibility that the defense can generate some turnovers if we can get to Jake. That will be our only hope IMO because the Broncos are a top 10 and possible 5 in all the NFL with a great home field advantage.
Lastly, we at hailredskins.com have heard this song and dance a million times already this season from bears, dallass, and seahawk fans. We enjoy hearing fans say that they are not concerned abotu the Skins at all and hope the players feel the same way. I promise you, win or lose, you are in for a fight. It should be a great game to watch.

LOL that goes along the lines of what I was thinking. They all have the same worn out battle cry. Its like they feel that since they won 3 games to start the season they need us to validate them. The skins on offense aren't as bad as people think. Last year really hurt their reputation because the defense was really really good. I actually expect a little drop off from the defense. The pass rush is a concern this year, but maybe it's because Williams is not blitzing as often as last year and let's face the Redskin front 4 is a bunch of veterans that never really lived up to the potential (Renaldo Wynn, Daniels, Griffin). They are serviceable but not capable of taking over a game.
The offense is actually moving the ball real well, but once they hit the red zone they kind fizzle. They did score 2 TDs in the red zone against seattle, but we'll see if they keep improving or it was a one game thing. Red zone offense is a big part as Broncos fans know from last year so you can't say "well if we could just score in the red zone." Having said all that, the Redskins O won't win many games, but they aren't as bad as people think. I would be more concerned about the defense not playing as well as last year. The offense actually was the reason the skins pulled off the seattle win.

I think we'll score more than 21 points for sure. If for no other reason because our offense is much improved this year over last year. Now, last year, it was slim pickens. I think we 28th in the league in total offense, but I know that we scored 31 points in the second Gints game.
BTW, the Gints still can't stop anybody. In fact, I think SD just scored on them again.

If you're talking about 21 pts vs the Broncos I think not. If you're talking about 21 pts vs any opponent this year... yes for sure. It may take a combination of a Defensive score and two offensive scores, but you'll get 21 at some point!
As for the Giants. Their D is suspect. Mainly their secondary though. I think they could obviously use an upgrade at LB as well. It will be a good game when you guys play. Shanny has been great in this regard. He does such a good job of exploiting match-ups that even Jake Plummer looks good at times. Seriously, how else can you explain Jake Plummer throwing for 4000+ yards and 27 TD's.
How is the speed of your LB's? Seems like they move pretty well which will really play into our hands. Getting those guys out of position will be key...expect over pursuit (common vs the Broncos) and then us sealing them out of the play. This is how the big plays come. If they get caught out of position your team is in trouble. The only way a defense beats the Broncos is by playing very disciplined football, staying on their feet, and playing disicplined football!

Oskie, No one and I mean NO ONE will put up 30 pts on the skins defense. Now on special teams or off turnovers yea, but no team will come close to scoring 30 pts on the skins D. that unit has too much pride. They get angry if they give up a FG.
and plz no one on here take this as an insult to the broncos. Like I said, I have the broncos winning this one 17-13. Im just saying no one would come close to 30 pts on the skins D.

Just because Cooley plays out of the backfield (sometimes) doesn't make him a halfback. He is an H-back which was explained earlier. It is a hybrib position between a fullback and a tightend. If you play fantasy football that is why Cooley can be used as a TE or a RB in most leagues. If you remember Frank Wychek of the Titans, he was the last really good H-back that comes to mind.

The strong point of the redskins this year is Disicpline. For the first time in a long time they don't beat themselves. The redskins D is the most disciplined in the NFL. Jake will have to win this game for the broncos and I think he'll do just enough to pull it off.

That's a pretty cool factoid. You usually don't see an OL catch 1 TD in a whole season, let alone 2 in 4 games.
Well Gee Williakers, we knew that going in...everyone knew we would throw to Carswell on tackle eligible.
It's 14 points on the freaking board. Deal with it.

If you're talking about 21 pts vs the Broncos I think not. If you're talking about 21 pts vs any opponent this year... yes for sure. It may take a combination of a Defensive score and two offensive scores, but you'll get 21 at some point!
I think you're right about the points. I see it being another typical Redskins game, dominated by defenses. Maybe 19-17 and it could go either way, IMO.
As for the Giants. Their D is suspect. Mainly their secondary though. I think they could obviously use an upgrade at LB as well. It will be a good game when you guys play. Their offense has looked like a well oiled machine. It'll be interesting to see if they can put up 24-30 points against you guys.
The Gints D is definitely suspect. Especially that "swiss cheese" scheme they employ. Plus I'm not convinced about their OL is so good. Last year they were garbage. No they're all-world? I'm not buying it.

How many times do you people need to say this game is going to be about the defenses?
Its not going to be about defenses. Just one defense, Denver's manhandling of the Foreskins.
Their defense wont be able to stop us, period. I dont care what the "experts" say or any foreskin fan thinks about their defense, we are winning in a rout.
So you can all scurry off back to whatever hole it is you crawled out of now.

Shanny has been great in this regard. He does such a good job of exploiting match-ups that even Jake Plummer looks good at times. Seriously, how else can you explain Jake Plummer throwing for 4000+ yards and 27 TD's.
You can't deny that. That's why he has 2 rings.
Our LBs are very fast. All of the players in GW's scheme have to be able to move well and be sure tacklers, however the LBs are not very big. Lemar Marshall in the middle is actually undersized, but is covered by 2 big DTs in Griffin and Salve'a who tend to keep the OGs off of him.

I SERIOUSLY hope that the Denver players and coaches are not taking the Washington offense as lightly as a lot of posters in this thread are. They are still an NFL team, and while they might not have quite the same talent level as a lot of other teams they can still do a lot of damge if they are disregarded. Remember the Cinccinatti game last year? Hell remember the Miami game this year!
Our defense is going to have to be ready to play, try to set the tempo, and keep our offense on the field by stopping the skins O.
Our O is going to have to get the run going somehow to keep their D honest, and it won't be easy. I expect we'll end up with somewhere around
140 yds rushing, at most. Jake and the receivers are gonna have to keep the drives going, or the skins will be able to hang around. A way for them to steal a close game at the end.
If the O can do the above, I think we'll pull away in the late third and 4th quarters. If it's tied in the 4th late its anybodys ball game.
DON"T be a victim of bad JUJU. Respect the skins!

Yeah, I guess every team has their moronic fans.
Stat of the day, the Skins are averaging more yards per game than the Broncos. What does that mean? Absolutely nothing. My only point is that while I think we still need to improve, I don't know that the average fan really understands why we don't score a lot of points. The modern NFL fan would respect what the Giants have accomplished more than the Skins because they don't know football. Most points scored is NOT an indicator of the best team.

I'm sorry you're missing something in your life that makes you treat people this way, and hope you consider therapy for your unresolved issues. It might help, and it can't hurt. the Bronco fans that has visited out sites have been treated with a lot of respect and we really welcome the change of pace and getting the other teams perspective on things. But I doubt your small mid can grasp that concept.
Either way, I'm looking forward to a game that I think will be dictated by both defenses and turnovers are always a huge part of any game. :D
Hopefully the Redskins can keep their composure because Denver is one of the toughest places to play in the NFL. Again, it'll be a challenge to go out and beat the Broncos.
