I love Al - but on the Jimmy Smith TD - the one everybody's blaming Lenny for - (NOT LENNY! Yes, Lenny) - correct me if I'm wrong, but Al had a shot at tackling Smith - but slowed to a stop to (it looked like) avoid running head-long into a safety! If I'm not mistaken, Wilson was slightly hurt on the play, too. Check your tapes if you've got 'em, I'd like to know.
It just didn't seem like a "Defensive Player of the Week" game from him . . . did he force a fumble? Get a sack? An interception?

He had 3 tackles, 1 sack, 2 forced fumbles.
And on the Jimmy Smith TD, he was running towards Smith and got taken out of the play because Nick Ferguson ran into him.

Al is playing like a Man with his hair on fire. Even Sandy Clough suggested that he would have to be considered for the All-Pro team at this point in the season.

Not only that but I've been very impressed with the way Gold and Wilson are getting into the backfield to make plays against the run. It's one thing to tackle the RB for minimal gain, but quite another to stuff Priest/Tomlinson/Fred Taylor and tackle them to negative yardage.

Paymah had coverage on the J. Smith TD. He went for the ball and failed to wrap up the ball carrier. Then Ferguson was late to converge and took Al wilson out after a really good juke from Smith. Lynch then failed to take a good angle and wiffed and fell. Plenty of blame to go around on a short 5 yard slant for 42 yards. Walls was not even in on that particular play that I could see.

this has been the most impressive part of the DL to date IMHO. The QB pressure is certainly better, but the penetration on every Play has allowed the LB's to fill the lanes and get to the ballcarrier in the backfield before they get to see the blocks. It has been VERY impressive to date.

from what I read, not only did Fergy take him out, he actually knocked him out did he not?

OK - I'm clear on it now. Thanks for the stats, Clockwork - 2 FF?! He DOES deserve it then. I guess I'm a bit guilty of what lots of national media do - overlook Brother Al. It's contagious - like I said in another thread: "Isn't it amazing that, after the ENORMOUS D.J. Williams rookie season, AND the re-signing of Ian Gold - that the LB Corps is getting the LEAST INK of the 3 defensive units?"

I'm telling you, the sharks are circling for poor Lenny. There are at least 10 or 12 posts calling that TD Lenny's fault. NOT LENNY! Right this time, Marge - NOT Lenny. Apparently he wasn't even on the field!
I defend Lenny, but there's is very little doubt he's gone next season, with all the incredible rookie (cheap!) CBs - maybe Lenny should re-hire Drew Rosenhaus. :contract:

Boards are all about perception. The facts have very little relevance when everyone wants to prove they are right. I for one have never said that Walls was responsible for that play and even have criticized my boy Paymah several times only to read later that people have attributed this play to walls through me. People see what they want to see and nothing more.
It is the same way with politics to an even more extreme. No one concedes anything for fear of weakness and validating the other side. It leads to an adversarial nature of the "blame game". Personally, i deal with it every day I go to work and it is much worse there than here. However, after being the target of a few posters on this board I got defensive as hell and started playing there game by their rules. Never again!

It's shocking to me the lack of comprehension that I see from very intelligent posters. I'm no Norman Einstien but GEEEEZ guys. It got so bad I answered one posters attacks five times using a cut paste of crap I just said. People like who they like. I don't personally care. I know who I am and I don't owe anyone an apology for waking up and enjoying my life.
I said the exact same thing regarding stretching probably about (whatever) years ago. I really don't get why that isn't obvious to the Broncos. They brought in some stretching guru but I never kept up on what happened because they keep popping hamstrings. I would love for someone to chat with Greek about this. I guess at that level hydration is critical as well.
In martial arts if you don't stretch I've seen guys tear up all kinds of crap. (ACL, MCL, broken hip, groin, etc.) People blow it off and often say that those things sometimes just happen but I don't buy that. I threw a kick one time during testing and you could hear a loud POP all throughout the room. Everyone knew I blew my hammy. It was nasty and I was gimping for nearly two months. Since I started a daily deep stretch I've never had that happen since. I'll share that routine with anybody that asks for it. Just PM me. It's very comprehensive but easy to to do.
I treat it as an essential part of health. If you ever get a chic whose into Yoga you can have an amazing amount of fun...ahem...stretching.

Interestingly enough this was a topic of discussion around the proverbial water cooler a couple days ago. It was mentioned that use of one of the "legal" substances - Creatine, specifically, will contribute to muscle pulls - the hamstring being extremely vulnerable. I'm not certain why but I'm sure some of the weekend workout warriors in here can debate that idea.

I don't use any of that stuff but from the guys I know who use it they are saying you have to drink A LOT of water. If you are in a game pouring sweat it's easy to forget to bottle up. Creatine helps your endurance as well as muscle strength.
I saw a special where they showed all these HIGH SCHOOLER linemen weighing in at 300 pounds? Some of the guys said you couldn't even make the team if you weren't 270 or better. There is no way that is just from eating the regular school lunchs.

Dont forget 55, 98, 61, 24, 25, 47, 27..... i could go on, but lets just give Defensive player of the week to all of them.
The DL is doing awesome creating lanes for the LB's to run thru and Al has been taking advantage of it! Great team work all the way around. ^5

Good Post.
Also, RE: you Avatar.
I noticed a few after the whistle shoves from Reggie Williams to Karl Paymah during the game last week. It was pretty obvious that they carried their college rivalry over into last Sunday's game.
Regarding the thread subject.
Looking back on the last 3 games .....
Our CB Champ Bailey played like an all-pro vs SD. Could/Should have seriously been considered for the same honor IMO.
Our DL Trevor Pryce played lights out vs KC and Could/Should have seriously been considered for the same honor IMO.
Then Al does get the award for his great game this week for JAX.
We have great players at all levels.

And Foxworth nearly caught up with Smith. Just goes to show his speed. But yeah, Paymah went for the ball and was ___this close to getting it. The rest was Brandon taking out Wilson, Lynch taking bad angles and Foxworth running his butt off and nearly catching him.

Something that is rarely mentioned. In the past few years of our run defense success, one thing has been constant: our linebacker speed and skill. The DL is doing great creating turnover opportunities and incomplete passes, but the linebackers are getting to those gaps extremely quickly and putting cement in the cogs of the opposing offensive line.

So better make that 100 votes an hour to keep up.

Official confirmation from nfl.com:
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/8930136
DEFENSE: LB AL WILSON, DENVER BRONCOS
Denver linebacker Al Wilson helped the Broncos (3-1) buck their way to a third consecutive victory in a 20-7 win at Jacksonville. Wilson was frequently found making plays around the ball by compiling six tackles, including a sack, two forced fumbles and a pass defensed. His sack and forced fumble in the first quarter gave Denver the ball at the Jaguars' 29-yard line. Wilson keyed a defense that held Jacksonville and standout running back Fred Taylor and the team to a franchise-low 12 rushing yards.
This marks the first Player of the Week honor for Wilson, a three-time AFC All-Star and seven-year veteran from Tennessee.
