I just stumbled upon an interesting little tidbit while paging through an old issue of the Broncos magazine that they send out to season ticketholders. It says that Mike Anderson needed 292 yards to pass Clinton Portis for sixth place on Denver's all-time rushing yards list. Mike has 267 yards so far this season, so he will pass him with only 25 yards on Sunday. I know Mike has played a lot longer with the Broncos, I just was thinking that it would be pretty sweet if they PA announcer lets the crowd know when it happens while CP is in the house. Maybe Mike could break out "the belt".

That would be funny, but not MA's style, which is why I'm glad he'll probably pass Portis.

He still isn't/never was 1/4 of the back Clinton Portis was for us. Not saying I don't approve of the trade - just pointing out a simple fact.
CP was one of the best RB's we've had here - there is no disputing his on field productivity in the short time he was here. Whether you like him or not he was a bad mofo running back in our system.

Prodution on the field is only part of the picture, MA had at least one very productive season for us before he started getting the injury bug bites and Mike's work ethics far outshine CP's so give me Marine Mike any day.

How do you figure his work ethic is better? CP came into camp ready to go just like MA.
I think maybe you mean - self sacrifice for the team or MA has more loyalty to the team but work ethic? I highly doubt it. They both came into camp in shape and ready to play.
CP just chooses, like many Miami players, to train and work out in south Florida as a group. That doesn't mean that they aren't down there busting their asses to get ready for the next season. Hell, i've heard people comment that the workouts down there are more grueling than anything the actual teams in the NFL can put together.
As much as I don't like the U of M or their players for that matter - i'll give them props for training in the off season.
Just because CP asked for, and deserved, more money - let's not forget what he did for us while he was here. A bonafide stud.
And for the record - even if you think MA's work ethic is better - i'll take on field production over that any day of the week. Being a fan of the TEAM - it will be around in 5, 10 years while most of these players will be a forgotten memory. FACT.
Only a few names will remain.

I agree, MA only started at TB for one season, and only 15 games at that and had almost as productive a season as CP in his first year. MA was looking like a stud TB, just like CP, and after an unfortunate injury he switched to FB. I won't say work ethic, but TEAM ethic is huge. In only his second season starting at TB MA is gonna pass CP, and I'm glad for it.

Note: I am not comparing MA to TD.
What I didn't like about MA was that in his one year, his runs seemed to be 4-5 yds, maybe a 15 yder once in awhile. TD was not fast, but he was able to get past the lbers and then take the angle to the sideline to stretch a run to 30 yds. MA's doing better this time around. Crank off one or two of those, and it changes a game.

Just for the record, CP worked out in DC all offseason... He's taken on a more active leadership role this year. I for one am glad to have him as a Redskin. Gibbs will find a way to get the most out of him.
I was a Champ Bailey fan, but he didn't want to be with the team anymore. The trade worked out good for both sides...

He did? There was an early offseason report that he was staying in Mia. I'm glad if he's not being a jerk. I do think he was always prepared to play when in Den. I like the guy as a player. I hope he sprains an ankle in warmups, though, but gets healthy next week.

It was Sean Taylor who stayed down in Miami during the offseason to work out.. He took a lot of grief for it, but did come into camp in great shape and ready to play..
I can understand not wanting to face CP.. However, his backup (Betts) could be a starter on many teams in his own right. In fact, some think he is more of a prototypical "Gibbs" back than CP..

I always feared he'd come back out of shape. One time I recall he came in, and immediately had some hammy issue. Shanahan was most displeased.

No - you're wrong. Wanting more money has nothing to do with WORK ETHIC - he wanted more money - it did not interfere with the way he worked tho.
Work ethic - the way you approach and do your job
Wanting more money is more attitude than anything.
He still WORKED hard - that's the difference.
I kinda agree with you but the term work ethic is not the proper statement.

I want to be paid more, more vacations, etc.... doesn't affect how I approach my job. All of my projects are done - I work hard during the day to complete everything, I don't slack much, etc.... that's a good work ethic.
Coming in here on a daily basis and letting all of my projects pile up with no intentions of clearing them off of my plate is bad work ethic.

Are you talking about the same MA that broke the single game rookie rusing record that year? He averaged 5 yards a pop with a long of 80, he had 12 runs over 20 yards in 12 games started. You must have watched a different MA than I did.

That article referred to a vacation he went on right after the season ended. It lasted around a month. He then stayed in DC the rest of the time after the mini-camps started..
I'm not sure either team is going to run all that well this week. I have a feeling it's going to come down to the QB's and turnovers (as usual for the Skins).. :)
Best of luck to all for no injuries and an exciting & competitive game!

Does his leadership include picking out fancy hats for Hog fans & buying everyone WWF/Boxing belts?
Gibbs will run him into line until portis pulls a Ricky & leaves. Does Washington run a stretch play? I thought Gibbs was big on counters & traps. & didn't like to run outside.

Clinton definitely has a unique and funny kind of personality. He says, "..the belt deal is old news, like my time in Denver.. I'll have something new and special to pull out when I get in the end zone.." (or something along those lines)..
Gibbs has tweaked the offense over the offseason and now has a mix of old Gibbs-style running and a mix of draws, stretch plays, outside runs that are more suited to CP. Gibbs even talked to Shanahan and Alex Gibbs over the offseason to get their advice on how to tweak the offense to get more production out of CP..
