Don Banks - Snap Judgments
• I still don't know how to factor Denver's opening-day mail-in job at Miami into the equation, but week by week it's becoming apparent the Broncos are better than we expected. Oh, and that Denver defense, populated as it is with ex-Browns? It has shut down LaDainian Tomlinson, Priest Holmes and Fred Taylor in consecutive weeks.
• You can't stop Denver tight end Dwayne Carswell. You can only scheme to contain him.
* I'm going out on a limb and labeling the Washington Redskins the worst 3-0 team in NFL history. And that's coming off their best game of the season by far.

These so called experts didn't understand that the Browncos are better than what the Broncos rolled out there at D line last year.
No more Clarett and Rice talk? I haven't heard those names in a while. The way these so called experts made it sound, you'd think the Broncos season depended on those two guys.

People pretty much ignored the Broncos Monday Night win. It was more of the Chiefs losing, and it was just one of those bad games for them.
That doesn't seem to be the case anymore. We're looking pretty good, and they are going in the tank.

I hope no talking head out there ever mentions the Denver Broncos name. I hope when this team gets in the playoffs (prediction) that they forget all about us.
This team still has to beat a team which is a legitimate playoff contender. My hope is that they don't forget to beat everyone in front of them until then.

I was thinking about this today during the game, and later whe I was reading the reactions on the Jag fan site. It's true that the last couple games have been the most complete from Denver in a while, but there were also an extrmem amount of penalties. At what point are we safe to say that our defense is forcing opposing teams into making mistakes like that.

Totally agree. They wrote off our second two games as flukes and no one has said anything. You can seriously see them squirming because they don't want to hurt their egos and admit our offseason was solid for fear of their penises shrinking.

Penalties are a result of three things.
1. Dicipline (or Coaching)
2. Intelligence (Front office and coaching)
3. Fatigue/Getting owned.
When a player can't beat another player he'll usually grab or just do something out of desperation. When a player is tired, they aren't as focused and make more mental errors which can also cause penalties.
Basically we've been beating the guys we need to straight up. This wears them down physically but also hurts their morale.
They were jumpy on the line b/c they knews the only way they had a prayer of beating our D-line was to get under them early and hope good leverage would help them. Also I'd be willing to bet that Warren running his mouth at the line has something to do with those guys losing focus and forgetting the snap count as well.

I can't believe how well the D did without Champ or D Will today. Thats got to open more eyes right there then had we beat them with both those guys in there....also we need to start getting more hype for our rookie DBs. So far so good for two of the three.

I agree that the D is playing great. The Broncs just shut the the Jags down. Screw the media. Only one ESPN "analyst" (of eight) predicted the Broncos would win today. It's going to be tough to beat us if the D keeps playing this way. The offense also played very well against a solid Jax D who held Indy to 10 points in Indy. Go Broncos!!!

The fact of the matter is that despite losing Champ, DWill, Middlebrooks and Deltha, our defense rock and rolled! They had one big play where we all ran into each other. We are great at that.
I can name half a dozen times players have run full speed into each other only to miss the tackle...it's a Denver specialty...
Atwater knocked out most of the secondary on one play in the SuperBowl...I was Freaking out...Mobley saved the day...
Anyway, great job by the defense...hey, they missed the tackle across the middle, but the rest of the day we ruled them...they scored 7.
DW and Champ rested...it's all good. Fox and Walls stood up but out DL was OUTSTANDING.
If you watched, the DL pushed the OL around like tinker toys the whole game.

Yeah I'm not sure why everyone was kissing the Chiefs ass and giving Raiders props when the chargers were the AFC West champs. Granted they usually pack it in after a 1 successful season but I've gone on record picking the Chargers as the biggest threat and I'm sticking with it.

You cant discount the Chargers. They have a solid D, possibly the greatest RB of his generation, an excellent tight end, a solid WR, a manageable QB, and a veteran coach.
The Chargers should be there challenging for the division in December.

Denver (3-1) has looked really good the past two games. In Week 1 the Broncos faded in the second half in Miami. Since then they've pulled out a tough win against San Diego and beaten supposed playoff contenders K.C. and Jacksonville. Right now you'd have to say Denver is one of the best teams in the AFC.</ p>
• Jacksonville still hasn't fixed its offense. Seven points against the Champ Bailey (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=4655)-less Broncos. Same for the Texans, who after a bye week and even with a new offensive coordinator managed a mere 10 against the Bengals.
Denver 20, Jacksonville 7 (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/recap?gameId=251002030)
Another mistake-free game from Plummer, another Broncos victory. Can this be real? </ p>

I was channel surfing after the game and came across the sports run-down on CNN. When they showed the Broncos-Jags game the only thing the announcer had to say was "Bryon Leftwich still has his moves" and they proceed to show the one score for the Jags. He then closes with "but the Broncos went on to win". Went on to win? When were we behind? Not a single clip showing the Broncos domination.

the jimmy smith catch that shanahan challenged early on in the first quarter was one of Bermens top 10 plays of the week, although it was an overturned pass caught out of bounds.

There ya go. I think we can lay low for a few more games and here's why.
Lets assume...
1. We beat the Redskins. Explanation: The Redskins are worse than their reccord of course.
2. We beat the Patriots: The Pats have key injuries.
3. We win in New York. Well if we are going to get repect it will be here. Though they could probably pass it off as "rookie jitters".
3. We beat Philly: Wel McNabb is hurting, so what do you expect.
I bet we'll see excuse after excuse for why we win each game - especially if the Manning Brothers keep winning.

I have been very, very surprised at how little attention Denver is getting for this win. Everyone is talking about San Diego, Philly, and Tampa. I watched the NFL Blitz, NFL Primetime, reviewed every major website this morning and barely a peep. You get the occassional review with "Denver's D looks good". John Clayton has been screaming praise for the "mistake by the lake". I really thought this was the game that legitimized us.
In an odd sort of way I think dominating J'Ville hurt us. I think that if Jacksonville had put forth a great game and we beat em close, more people would have paid attention. Instead they are all saying that J'Ville is inconsistent, played poorly, missing OL, yada, yada... Of course they are completely ignoring the fact that EVERYONE picked the Jags to win, that we had to travel to the East Coast on a short week, that we suck in Florida, that J'Ville had revenge on their minds, and that J'Ville's defense was supposed to be krytponite for our run game.
In the end, I guess its a good thing becuase I like flying below the radar right now.

My hope is that the D can play consistently like this for the entire season. I really don't care if the media keeps disrespecting us. And as long as we don't have that midseason slump as in the past years, I couldn't be more excited! My hope is the Broncs don't start smelling themselves. Continue to remain grounded and hungry and the skies the limit.
Now, if only Tatum earns the opportuinity to take his game to the next level, that would be icing on the cake.

I agree with you here.
Hopefully we will be able to weather the injuries that will come. IMO, that has been the downfall of this team in the 2nd half of the season since the superbowl squad left Denver.
Our defense looks better than anything we have thrown out there on either side of the ball in recent years, so maybe this is the year that we sustain production after the bye week.
