I live in Carrollton, TX just outside of Dallas and real close to Frisco, TX which is where Matt Lepsis is from. We went in to this furniture stor and my wife showed me the guy there had a Broncos screensaver. I went over to chat with him about the Monday night game and he told me his little bro plays for them. The guy was pretty dang big and I was picturing a smaller brother, someone who doesn't start. Then he said it was Matt. I said he had done a hell of a job last year and is playing great this year. He told me that Matt said the line was really gelling now. They were having a tough time getting in sync at the beginning of the year. Now they're rolling and excited to keep moving. We talked about big Matt's contract too. He said there's been talks about designating Lepsis as the franchise player for the upcoming year. I wasn't too excited to hear about that, but it was interesting to get the inside dirt. Pretty cool guy to talk to overall.

Not even close. If they slap the franchise tag on him he'll be awarded the average of the top 5 paid players at his position. We're talking Orlando Pace, Jonathan Ogden, Walter Jones type money.

No chance.

I don't get this at all. The man has been a great lineman for us, he plays the OLT exceptionally well. He's great in pass protection and tops in Run Blocking. You obviously remember nothing of the great Trey Teague and Ephraim Salaam era's. If you did, you'd be more than happy to pay the man.

Beside's the reason it would be great to franchise him, means that we're going to go OLT in the draft. Let him sit his first year, while Lepsis mans the position and than next year wham we got us some bookends for the next 10 years. Woo Hoo!!!!

If you don't think that anyone would sign him, just look south to Houston. The texans run a zone blocking scheme similar to ours, and their OLT is a revolving door. If we don't either sign him long-term or franchise him, he'll be gone.

Agreed, I think we'd just be giving big George another year to man the LT spot. If he can't, we're in trouble reguardless. Like it or not. Worth the money IMO. Just look at his stats against pro-bowlers. They're outstanding.

I was worried about Lepsis moving to LT and afte rthe first few games last year I was even more worried, but as last year wore on and he settled into the position, he has really done a great job. I dont get the hating on him either. I think lepsis and foster are the only two consistent players left on our line. Nalen just isnt the same as he used to be (though still a solid player IMO) and Hamilton will be able to replace him at center and do a good job I think, but he is no good as a gaurd IMO. Carlisle can rot in hell.

Keep Lepsis and when Foster is ready move him over to LT and Lepsis back to RT. JMO.

Certainly a serviceable LT with the added bonus of achieving what no defensive player in the league could...stopping TD. ugh!~

Did we cut the final 4 years off of Matts contract? I knew he reworked it but I forgot if he did that.

We need to keep Matt and draft a different position. Our problem has been the interior OL, not the tackles. Matt, as oz pointed out, has been excellent against top notch competition.

My question is this: is the franchise designation even applicable in Matt's situation? It's my understanding that he's due a roster bonus. If we choose not to exercise that bonus, he's a free agent. Can you franchise a guy in a situation like this? I think the ideal would be to simply work out an extension before the bonus is due.

I agree....keep him for atleast a year and get some OG help...once that is settled, let him walk...

I think he can declare himself a FA after the season, if that is right I don't see how he can be Franchised...

Lepsis is my favorite on the OL. He is top notch, i really dont see where the hating comes from. Its not like we have a huge resoivor(sp?) to just pull another great OL out of. The draft is no sure thing either.

They need to make changes to the OL without destroying the chemistry. I have no idea how they are going to address this in the off season. Personally I would like to see them keep Lepsis but then again at what price? The good news is maybe the guy will build a case for himself starting with the Jaguars game. Good to know...

Restructure made him a FA after this season. He needed some kind of incentive to give back some $$.

I guess they definitely are gelling!

The OL has been my #1 concern, but they are doing great!!

I do, but I'm not sure, cap wise, they can do it .... though they might could by back loading Big Money and/or TP.

But damn, to hijack the thread (-:, with Elam taking up all the cap, maybe we could get Joe Nedney and cut Jason and then fit them all in. :hitself:

The Salary cap is due for a big jump from $85mil to $100 mil there is no reason why Denver can't get him sign. Unless He wants to play for the Texans. I think Denver should sign him long term and draft Guard, Saftey and WR in the draft

He was good at Run Blocking, but you must have blocked out a large portion of the 2002 season. Brian Griese was beaten down on his blindside because Salaam couldn't pass block worth a ****. Look at how bad he's gotten schooled down in Jacksonville, he's been a constant turnstyle.

Hey, Mediator 12. Put up those numbers on the number of pro-bowl defensive ends Lepsis held without a sack last season pls.

Agree. He is doing just fine and will be around here as long as he wants and his health holds up. That being said, they broncs will probably have seven picks in the first four rounds next year. A couple of new OL would be nice especially at RG which is where the Broncs have their weakest starter.

Ogden money? is that what you call it?

I have to admit i don't watch the o line much during games, however, i recall a game where Ogden was absolutely man-handled by Dwight Freeny. I then remember seeing Lepsis absolutely man-handle Freeny.

We lost Neil, but we had a formidable replacement. Who will replace Lepsis? And if it is someone who already starts, then who will take the replacements place? I say pay the man.

I swear, if they let him walk... :gripe:
