Omaners, please take a look and see when the Race for the Cure will be in your area. For Coloradoans and Denverites, the Denver race is this Sunday. You do not have to run this, you can walk. It's about 3 miles. It's a great cause, get up early Sunday and helpout!!!

Ben, while I don't know what type of cancer your mom is battling, this seemed like an appropriate time to mention/remind people that the Denver race is this Sunday.

Thanks for all the prayers, guys. I always knew this was the best fan site on the internet, now it's been proven again!

whats her name?
Her name's Bonnie.

I talked with dad earlier today and the prognosis, while still bad, is not as bad as we had heard yesterday. Yesterday we believed my mom was dead, just a matter of time. Now we're being told that chemotherapy is a viable option and with a lot of luck, mom could still be around for years.

Thanks again all,
Ben

I'll pray for her, Ben.

I know it will be hard, but you have to be strong for her. Just be as positive, upbeat and supportive as possible whenever you're around. A good attitude means so much in these types of situations and she'll draw strength from you.

God Bless.

I've already declared a personal war on cancer because of my friend Jason who is still fighting on. Hearing this news Ben just makes me hate it that much more. It has been a difficult road but he is pressing on and taking what life has to offer in. Your mother will do the same. Cancer effects everyone. Infact the likely hood is 1 out of 3 omaners will get it. I'd bet anything that some of us have it and don't even know it yet. Or if you don't get it one of your family members will. I'm not trying to tell you guys anything you don't know but we have alot of younger members around here who think they may be invincible. I felt the same way at 21. Life is very fragile. I'm not an expert on cancer but what I've learned from Jason is early detection is the key. It is an emotional roller coaster and difficult to all involved but it is defefinetly treatable and people beat it all the time!!!!!

My thoughts are with your mom. I lost mine to cancer about 5 years ago. BUT, believe it or not (and without knowing what type and how bad) positive thoughts from her and those around her do make a difference. My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer almost 15 years ago. Through amazing advances in treatment and chemo she was able to live 10 years without any regression from a very aggressive cancer.

It is a scary and tough road, but it can be handled to where she'll be around for a long time.

A little update...

Mom's out of ICU now and is doing better. The doctor is supposed to be in later today to discuss chemo with her. Things are starting to look up. She's still got a helluva tough road ahead of her, but she's got a fighting chance.

Thanks again for all the prayers. I'm overwhelmed that so many people who never met my mom (or even me) could be so kindly.

hey ben,

it was great to meet you, and i look forward to seeing you at more games.
we've always had alot in common and seen eye to eye on most issues, and meeting you in person was even better. i hope we can get our families together soon as we discussed before the san diego game.
things like this with your mother keep showing us how precious life really is.

i dont know if you know, but my mother died of lung cancer (she never smoked incidentally) 6 years ago.
we still miss her every day (it chokes me up just to type this), but we're thankful for the time we had, and we FEEL her presence with us all the time.

i feel your pain, and i know what youre going through, as ive dealt with the exact same thing.
you and your family are in my DAILY prayers, and you will be until you see this through.

im glad we've both moved home, and you let me know if you need anything ANYTIME of day. im always available to talk, and more importantly to listen.
give me a call anytime if you need to talk.

all the best,

jake

I don't want to be long winded but prayers do work.

I've lost three people this year to Cancer but my Dad caught it early and survived. I think prayers help but like Slap said standing up for them oftentimes gives them the strength they need not to quit.

I'll pass your information to my prayer circle. We've been very busy lately.

Another update...

Things are really starting to look up for mom. They're finally going to close her incision from the surgery last monday and she'll be in the hospital for another week or so, but then she's going home. Once she's home and rested, they're going to start chemo. The doctors sre confident that they'll be able to drive it into remission and possibly even beat it entirely.

I can't even begin to express what it's meant to me to receive all support I've received here. From the bottom of my heart, my sincerest thanks to each and every one of you.

Thanks,

Ok guys, last update for a while (until we hear about the chemo probably). I talked with mom yesterday and she should be going home in a couple of days (she wasn't supposed to be going until early next week). The last of the "tubes" were removed yesterday and she's feeling about a million times better. She's in great spirits and is looking forward to getting back to living life again. She's been in so much pain for the last two years that even though she's still recovering from surgery she still feels better now than she has in the last two years. Makes me wonder WTF these doctors have been doing!

Meck, she told me she is definately planning on coming out here again! It'll probably be next summer thogh I'm trying to convince her on April or May when it's not so freakin' hot.

Ben
