Pryce was out ALL last year. He had a poor Playoff game versus INDY in 2003. Otherwise, he has been rock solid with the double teams and NOW he does have help up front. The Chiefs were holding almost every passing down and a lot of running down's. Difference this year is our DL fought through it and got the OBvious flags!

I think its funny that a guy has an All World game and people act like it should happen every week. The other side is trying to win, too. They tend to identify players like Pryce and devote extra attention to stopping him.
Who was Pryce's best linemate over the last five seasons?
Reggie Hayward. A guy so good we didn't even try to keep him this year.

Pryce is the man. we missed him big time last year. No pressure whatsoever last year. Some money plays by him and the rest of the browncos. I must say what happened to Coyer? was he kidnapped? did we get a new coordinator? Coyer is starting to look like Gregg Williams with all these blitz calls.

Second I never said he sucked or anything. I always gave him credit for being good-great-at times borderline elite player who can get off blocks consistently when he has his game on.

The fact is Pryce moved around and NOBODY could block him. We have always seen Pryce play and take the double teams making life easier for Berry or Hayward BUT now it seems to me that Warren is taking up two blockers in the middle freeing up Pryce. This is great news!!!!

And unless someone better than him is here, he will always be the center of attention, but the thing is when we find someone better than pryce.....is pryce worth the tag he has now? Pryce is on contract, not tagged, so unless he gets cut he's here, and cutting him has a big fat off-season crippling cap penalty.
He played great tonight, I'm not going to proclaim him Hawaii bound, but he made a first big step towards that tonight. Our DL as a whole is vastly improved though. Here's hoping they stay healthy and keep pressuring QBs.

At the original price tag of around $9million, no he was not worth it.
But since he took a pay cut and is suffering no ill effects from that back injury, and is back to playing great, then hell yes. He's worth it especially with Brown and his injury history.

Yeah, Warren really has started the season well and getting good interior pressure. Having that DT in there really makes a difference to the bookend DEs and I hope Warren can keep it up. Shanahan said that he wouldn't be surprised if Warren was good enough for the pro-bowl and it looks like he wasn't bluffing.
If he can keep this up, then I have no problem trying to resign him before he becomes a free agent.

Pryce's best line-mate over the last 5 years? I don't know, Bert Berry ring a bell? He's racked up double digit sacks over the last few seasons. Heyward had 10 last year. Reagor is off to a good start this year. Is that how we judge linemen's play... by who they're playing next to?
Dwight Freeny tears up other teams every Sunday no matter who's lined up next to him.

Tracking a D-lineman by his sacks is like tracking a cornerback by his interceptions. By your account Deltha Oneal and Troy James from Cinci are the two best corners in the league.
Often you have situations where for instance, Jason Taylor used to force the QB to scramble right into the arms of a waiting Ogunleyea who had 16 sacks one year or when Peppers and Jenkins would crash the pocket and you've got Rucker and Buckner getting most of the sacks in Carolina. Not syaying Rucker or Ogunleyea are bad, but the year Jason Taylor had his best year, Ogunleyea took all the credit. Sacks just don't matter that much. Good D-linemen leaves all the glory to the others on his team, they get picks, they get sacks for teamates, they get tackles for loses, but they rarely get the sack for themself they deserve so much.
Dwight Freeny plays with the most underated D-tackle in the NFL in Larry Trippelette.
A pressure against Will Shields is like 10 pressures against some unknown blocking for Cleveland.
Trevor was not getting held by second team tackles, i saw him tear up Brian Waters who I saw throw around John Henderson and Marcus Stroud like ragged dolls. This is the same Chief O-line that dominates the Pantherns vaunted D-line and Jags D-line minus the tackles. even so, you've got Wiegleman, Waters and Shields in the middle, the best interior in the league by heads and shoulders.
Trevor Pryce played like the best D-lineman in the NFL last night, not just up to his paycheck.

I beg to differ. What is a holding penalty known as? A drive killer! I don't have the exact #'s in front of me, but I remember looking at them a few weeks ago. It's something like 23% of the time a team will pick up a first down after a holding penalty. That is big! I'm not sure what that # is on sacks but I seriously doubt it's any better!

Dude, I'm seriously starting to wonder if you watch football? Freeney gets manhandled in run d? I guess you haven't watched much Colt football. Why don't you give Jamal Lewis a holler and ask him about Dwight Freeney vs the run. He pasted him twice behind the LOS!!!

How about Engleburger hittin Priest on the screen pass?
Are you thinking of when Engelberger crushed Gonzalez? I believe Engelberger was on a stunt circling from DE to rush Green in the middle, saw Gonzalez get the pass, and just hammered him. That's smart play, awareness of what's going on. That's the difference between this team and some that I've seen in the past. There's a lot more guys making plays this year than in some past years. Ferguson is playing pretty darn well, taking good angles and making the one-on-one tackles. ST play has improved a lot. Less holes, and they close a lot faster. I'm seeing pretty solid team play right now.

Great post. People only see the stars on their own teams on a weekly basis. They see highlights from other team's stars on PrimeTime, but they don't see the games where Michael Strahan or Jason Taylor or Jevon Kearse are neutralized all game long. If they do see it, they don't really notice because they don't really care about the game and they're not living and dying on every play, like they do with the home team.
Playoff game, we're getting ****hammered and Jake can't lead water downhill, much less our offense to a single first down. People want to jump Pryce's ass because he's not sacking Peyton Manning every other play, though. All you can do is laugh.

Well, Jake is still the only Denver QB on the roster who has actually led a team to win in the playoffs.
Can't really blame Jake for losing to Indy in their house both years. Clearly Indy was a better team. They manhandled the whole team much like Denver manhandled KC last night. Good times when we do the manhandling, not so good when the manhandling gets done to us.
What I find hilarious is that Denver wins, it wasnt Jakes doing. Denver loses, its all Jake's fault.
If Denver loses a game, its because EVERYONE was playing bad. This team is better than that to have one or two players screw up the whole shebang. If Denver wins its because most people played well. Denver has won with Jake having a bad day, with Portis having a bad day, but Denver has never won when the whole team forgets to show up.

I'm very happy to see he lost some weight. All defensive ends should do that as they get older to compensate for loss of burst. Obviously the guys who are naturally lean don't have that option, but Pryce had a few spare pounds he could shed.

With the rest of the line now healthy {Warren, Brown, etc) (Knocking on wood!) ONE of them should have good games every week. That line is a monster when it's turned loose. Against the run and the pass.

Something the DL as a whole should be proud of is when Parker scored KC's lone TD, 61 and 91 came off the pass rush and tried to chase him down.
That's stud DL play right there. That's very studly DL play. Props to 98 also for chasing down plays that got past him at the LOS. I've been looking for that for several years, and now I get to see it. Man, I love that from DL's. That's one of the things that separate the contenders from the pretenders. I guess those Browncos came in and showed the rest of the Bronco DL how to hustle.

I get the sense that Warren is thrilled to be on a competitive defense. He looked pissed when Parker scored, I love it when a player takes that much pride in the performance of his squad.

Props to the Browncos for helping Pryce get back some respect.

Couldn't have done it without the other guys.

I think we are going to be seeing a different player step up each and every week on this DL. Last week CB, this week Pryce. Opposing OL coaches are going to start having fits with blocking schemes if we get this kind of play each week from the unit. Warren had a very good game also against a top interior line.

Courtney Brown just keeps getting to that football.
It's a shame that the Browns DLine suck and Shanny is on the hot seat.

CB and Warren have both played well the last two games. I wonder what Cleveland fan is saying?

Clev D has been very decent so far, so they can not be too dismayed. I just think that Warren mostof all needed a new home. EE and Meyers both played well last year and CB has always played well if healthy. JE and the return of Pryce just makes this unit very deep. Hope it stays that way as I think they will still get better than we have seen so far.

Trevor played well last night as did the rest of the line at times. They could get a little tougher in short yardage situations, when KC ran on 3rd and short they had a little too much success for my taste, however on the 3rd down passing D was excellent IMO props for the D-line in those situations. I'm not ready to give Trevor the all-pro label just yet I don't think Roaf was in and he did not face a whole lot of difficulty at the end.

Yes, one game this season where Freeney made two plays against the run says more about him than his entire three year career previously where that Colts DL was lousy against the run.
Uhh
But I guess Freeney must have racked up the points in FF for you so that means he must be great.

I think its funny that a guy has an All World game and people act like it should happen every week. The other side is trying to win, too. They tend to identify players like Pryce and devote extra attention to stopping him.
Who was Pryce's best linemate over the last five seasons?
Reggie Hayward. A guy so good we didn't even try to keep him this year.
actually no it was betrand berry

I agree - it was Bertrand Berry. - but that's in the last 5 years ONLY - gotta remember Neil Smith and Alfred Williams before that.

What about Courtney Brown?? To have a guy like this on that D-line should give Trevor more opportunities!!
I appreciate your enthusiasm, but isn't it a bit too soon to put Courtney Brown ahead of . . .
Alfred Williams
Neil Smith
Maa Tanuvasa
Montae Reagor
Bert Berry
After all, Courtney has barely played TWO GAMES! He missed the whole preseason, too. Jury is still way, WAY out on Courtney, especially with his history.

Excellent points.
But tell me then - why isn't the "10 Million Dollar Man" aka "Diamond Reg Hayward" not getting any sacks with the Jags despite those two grizzlies in the middle - Henderson and Stroud?

Hayward is doing just fine for Jacksonville. He knocked Jay Feidler out of the game last week with the Jets. His hit on Matt Hasselbeck in game one forced a fumble and landed Hasselbeck on the injury list for the following week's game.
