Remember last year when foster had the cut block? All the NFL was up in arms, and Tony Dungy, Bill Cowher and others were accusing them of being dirty and unethical?

Well here ya go:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2170066

Indianapolis Colts: Ex-NFL quarterback and current CBS analyst Boomer Esiason used an interview on Sirius NFL Radio to accuse Colts defensive line coach John Teerlinck of teaching dirty tactics, the Indianapolis Star said.

Asked about the confrontation Sunday between Teerlinck and Jacksonville quarterback Byron Leftwich, who twice made an obscene gesture at the Colts coach, Esiason asserted that Teerlinck has a reputation for instructing players to "dive at a quarterback's knees."

"[Teerlinck] teaches his guys techniques that really border on trying to get someone hurt and knock them out of the game," Esiason said. "I understand why Byron Leftwich did what he did. I don't condone that, but what I would have loved for him to do is just go up there and punch [Teerlinck] in the mouth." Leftwich declined to comment specifically about the incident after the game.

Teerlinck, a fourth-year coach with the Colts, has not made himself available to the media since similar allegations arose in the 1996 season when he was an assistant coach with the Detroit Lions, the Star said.

As for the topic, I'm not defending anyone in this as I don't know the facts and intentions. However, the NFL with their pu$$ified rules have made the lower legs a target. When you as much as drag a hangnail anywhere near a QB's helmet you get flagged for 15 yards so to avoid hurting your team it is better to get in the habit of going low to avoid penalties. It shouldn't be like that as a player I would much rather get hit high than chopped in the knee but it is the bed the NFL has made.

It is also a penalty to dive at a QB's knees nap. Den had that one negate a good defensive play last week. You may only blow the QB down!

Correct but it is one they don't enforce anything like the helmet area. I definitely think we will soon see the progression towards people with the biggest and strongest lungs for the defensive line postions.

Further proof that Dungver fans are hypocrites...

Teerlinck has coached on two Super Bowl champions (1997-98, Denver), and in his first three seasons, the Broncos increased their sacks total annually. DT-Trevor Pryce emerged as a Pro Bowl selection during Teerlinck’s stint with the team. Denver led the AFC in sacks during Teerlinck’s five-season tenure.

But I'm sure he didn't teach such tactics during his stint there....right? ::)

That isn't the issue at hand, it's Dungy who come out publicly against a legal even if questionable block by Foster, yet he has coaches on his team that teach their own questionablle techniques.

His reaction was pretty pathetic and over the top (but sadly, he was not alone).

Look F-head,

I'm sure he did, but you don't hear Shanahan complaining to everyone on national TV about how and their questionable tactics.

Look,

Shanahan says, "Yeah, we cut block, so does a lot of teams." hell he even had a display of other teams doing it. It isn't that the coach teaches the tactic. Its that the HC of said team rants about the unfairness, and the moral and ethics of it. Thats what makes him a hypocrite.

Thanks for playing...

yeah tony dungy has been coming up evil lately... he was likable in tampa, but now he's used to success (and acts like it too!) and has become totally pretentious.

I like Dungy, but just like everyone of us he oversteps his bounds occasionally.

I like Teerlink too. Dude has the best fish fryin' parties ever. Teerlink has revamped that DL to the point where they hit Leftwich 16 times in 34 attempts. That is pressure!

BTW, I live in INDY and have had the occasional interaction with both of them.

The bottom of the broadcast graphics had leftwich being hit 10 times before the final play, + 5 sacks, plus the final play he got nailed :bash:
