Albertans are in the fortunate position of wondering what to do with extra money. In Lethbridge for a cabinet meeting Tuesday, Premier Ralph Klein announced that every man, woman and child in the province - except prisoners - would get $400 tax-exempt energy dividend cheques by the end of the year from the province's unbudgeted surplus, the result of sky-high oil and gas revenues.
DAMN!! I'm moving to Alberta :welcome:

Just to elaborate, Alberta's population is roughly 3.2 million. The total payout works out to be 1.2 billion dollars. Nice surplus.
Something to keep in mind when we all go out and buy $4 per gallon gas this weekend.

Yep.
Too bad our commander-in-thief doesn't give a rat's ass about the plight of the common folk.
If he did, then he'd support something like that latest bill that would impose a windfall profits tax on oil companies.

Anybody remember this?
"We can afford it," White House economic adviser Larry Lindsey said of the planned U.S. invasion, because rising Iraqi oil output would invigorate the U.S. economy. "When there is regime change in Iraq, you could add three to five million barrels [per day] of production to world supply," he told the Wall Street Journal in September 2002. Hence, "successful prosecution of the war would be good for the economy." In one of the most striking comments of this sort, Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz told a congressional panel, "The oil revenue of [Iraq] could bring between 50 and 100 billion dollars over the course of the next two or three years. We're dealing with a country that could really finance its own reconstruction, and relatively soon."
