CBS POWER RANKINGS
Current Team Previous
1 Pittsburgh Steelers 2
There is no doubt as to who should be the top team. The Steelers have dominated two games to the degree there can be no debate.
2 Indianapolis Colts 3
They are winning with defense. Can you believe it? That's scary for the rest of the league.
3 Philadelphia Eagles 5
The offense came alive against the 49ers, which we think will be more of the norm than they showed in the opener. Donovan McNabb bounced back in a big way.
4 Kansas City Chiefs 8
Winning on the road at Oakland was impressive. The Chiefs appear improved on defense, which was a must. Now comes a tough one at Denver. 5 New England Patriots 1
So they do lose after all? The Patriots now must regroup from their first loss for a trip to Pittsburgh. That's brutal.
6 Atlanta Falcons 4
Coming off a Monday night game and traveling to the Pacific Northwest was too much to ask for this team. They did rally to make it interesting against the Seahawks.
7 Cincinnati Bengals 16
At 2-0, the Bengals deserve to be here. They've dominated two opponents, although level of competition is still up for debate.
8 Jacksonville Jaguars 6
They wasted a heck of a defensive effort against the Colts. At some point, the offense has to start scoring more points.
9 Tampa Bay Buccaneers 17
With Jon Gruden coaching, Cadillac Williams running and that defense still stifling, this team is better than many thought.
10 New York Giants 15
In two games, the Giants have scored a lot of points. And that's without getting great play from Manning.
11 Washington Redskins 21
The Redskins stole one in Dallas the other night. Maybe Mark Brunell's fourth quarter will finally get the passing game on track.
12 New Orleans Saints 7
Opening with two consecutive road games -- let's not fool anybody, that's what it was Monday night -- is tough for any team. Now they go to Minnesota for a third in a row.
13 Carolina Panthers 10
Give John Fox credit for getting his team to play well in a season-saving victory against the Pats. The Panthers will be there in the NFC West in the end.
14 Seattle Seahawks 23
They caught the Falcons in a good spot coming off a Monday night game. At some point, the Seahawks need to put people away.
15 Dallas Cowboys 11
The loss to the Redskins will be a tough one to take. They had 2-0 in their grasp, but let it slip away. Jerry Jones' face at the end of the game told the whole story.
16 Denver Broncos 24
Champ Bailey saved the day or this was a team staring 0-2 in the face. Now they get a chance to take the division lead by beating the Chiefs this week.
17 New York Jets 25
They played a nice game on defense, but the offense is still struggling. That's not a good thing as they prepare to face the Jaguars.
18 Chicago Bears 27
The defense will be stout all season, but watch out if the offense continues to improve. This is a sleeper team in the NFC.
19 St. Louis Rams 31
That might have been a season-saving victory against the Cardinals. The offensive line remains a major concern, especially for battered Marc Bulger.
20 Buffalo Bills 9
We knew J.P. Losman would have games like he had against the Bucs. But it can't be a season-long trend or they have no chance to push for a playoff berth.
21 Tennessee Titans 30
If the defense plays as it did against the Ravens, they will stay in a lot of games. The offense still isn't clicking yet.
22 Cleveland Browns 32
Give Romeo Crennel and his staff tons of credit for a big road victory over Green Bay. Trent Dilfer was outstanding.
23 Detroit Lions 20
That was pathetic against the Bears. If Joey Harrington doesn't play better, all the weapons on that offense won't matter a bit.
24 San Diego Chargers 19
At 0-2 with a tough schedule still on tap, this is a team that will have to scrap to get to the playoffs.
25 Miami Dolphins 22
Their defense and coaching will keep them in a lot of games, but the offense showed its true colors against the Jets.
26 Oakland Raiders 12
Where is that explosive offense we all expected? At 0-2, they sure don't have the Super look some predicted (yeah, me).
27 Baltimore Ravens 13
As long as the offense is as bad as it was against the Titans, this team can't compete for a playoff berth. When does the split in the locker room start?
28 Arizona Cardinals 18
At 0-2, maybe they aren't ready to take the next step. The offensive line, like so many teams, needs work.
29 Minnesota Vikings 14
Mike Tice, your head is officially on the chopping block. Was this really a Super Bowl contender two weeks ago? That's hard to believe.
30 San Francisco 49ers 26
What we saw against the Eagles is more of what we expect from this team. It's time to go to Alex Smith.
31 Green Bay Packers 28
When you can't beat the Browns at home, there are issues. The defense is really bad. Didn't we expect that?
32 Houston Texans 29
It's bad, real bad. If things don't turn around quickly, some more moves will be made in the coaching staff.
