That was a great game. Hawk is EVEN BETTER than I thought! Given OSU's schedule and the way Iowa and Michigan played, you will very likely win out, so dont worry too much about this game. Its a shame anyone had to lose this one. This is an ESPN Classic game.

You guys played great!

I honestly thought Texas had no chance on the game-winning drive. The OSU defense was in charge, it seemed.

Excellent effort by the Buckeyes. I guess this is the risk you run when you have the balls to schedule a non-conference game against a powerhouse team rather than lining up cupcakes like Maine and Wake Forest. ;)

Sorry socal I just don't see them running the table with the play of the QBs. I think they drop either the Mich game or the Iowa game. My money would be on the Mich game.

The first game of the year against Miami the play calling was excellent, they mixed things up very well today looked exactlly like last year, nothing happens in the red zone. relying on field goals will only carry you so far. The D played their guts out, The offense was unable to establish a running game with a RB, and they only threw it deep twice, I can't really blame Zwick, Hamby should have caught that pass in the end zone and Zwick did not protect the ball as he tried to stiff arm a tackler. This really hurts, but with Michigan losing and this being such a close game I don't think OSU will drop below 5 but now since Iowa lost as well I think Purdue might be the one to run the table in the Big 10 since they won't play OSU or Michigan. GOd this sucks...Denver better get a shutout tommorw to bring me out of this funk.

I'm not sold on Ohio State's quarterback situation and running game. Those are two critical areas that need to be shored up if they want to run the table.

It seemed like Ohio State was getting all the bounces, easily won the field position battle and had a 3-0 turnover edge until the final drive, yet they were still barely winning most of the game. With all of those advantages plus home field they should have had a larger lead and never let Vince Young have a chance to win the game at the end.

A.J. Hawk is amazing and will win every award a linebacker is eligible to win, ala Dan Morgan in 2000. Santonio Holmes is also a great player. Ted Ginn Jr. was non-existant except for one nice kickoff return.

Ohio State seized momentum when Troy Smith came in at QB. I'm not sure if Troy Smith is the long-term answer for Ohio State at QB, but he was good enough to give Ohio State a chance to win the game.

Smith brought something different to the game his running around opened things up a bit but he only had the one TD, then he stalled on every other drive and that led to the 5 field goals, Zwick looked better and had control of the game when they put him in the second half he led them to what should have been the game clinching TD but oh well bitchin about it now isn't going to change the outcome.

That's a fact and kudo's to both programs for stepping out and taking on the tough comp. By all rights OSU won that game. Their Defense was simply dominating. They had one big breakdown and that ended up only costing them three points. The TD by Sweed at the end was simply a nice toss and excellent catch. There wasn't a coverage breakdown or anything like that. Just a good play. I think Vincent will be seeing Hawk in his sleep for quite some time. I did enjoy watching his sportsmanship. He was slapping those OSU LB's on the head each time they made a play. The guy has learned a lot in the past couple years. He's even a QB now, rather than an athlete at the QB position. There's certainly room for improvement, but he has shown enough improvement to make me think he can be a good NFL QB.

You've mentioned the play of the QB's twice now. I thought both looked pretty good. They didn't exactly run a committee approach but I think Tressel goofed by putting Zwick in the ball game. They'll be okay at QB!

Sorry man I just don't see it. You need one leader of a team and that has to be at the QB spot. They will not get that from the play of two QB's.

It's not the loss that hurts, its knwoing that we should've won and outplayed Texas and still lost that hurts.

Tressel needs to get off the Justin Zwick infactuation, Troy Smith is our QB.

Stick the ball in the ****ing endzone, it's really not that hard.

Another playcalling screw up...GET THE BALL TO TED GINN!!!

oh and finally, Ryan Hamby had the easiest TD catch ever and dropped it not once, but twice.

The D is awesome, but unless we can figure out a way to put the ball in the endzone(and it starts with Troy Smith being our 1 and only QB), then we could be in trouble.

I was so pissed to see Zwick get the start and as much playing time as he did. The guy is only good at throwing 5 yard passes at best. Agree with the rest. If we hit the FG we win, but had so many chances before that. If Tressel had just played Smith the whole game I would be fine, but rotating QBs hurt us IMO. Cooper wrecked two years playing this game. Oh well undefeated Big ten championship is still within our grasp, just do not want to see Zwick again until 4th qrt cleanup.

First of all, I wanted to congratulate the Texas team and their fans for a very impressive victory that I didn't think was possible. As long as your team maintains their focus, they will be Rose Bowl bound.

Secondly, I wanted to aplogize to any fan that went to Columbus for the game. I have never seen so much disrespect/hatred towards another team's fans. I am amazed at the number of people who just don't get that human rights are more important than a football game.

There is way too much hatred in the world today. We all need to come together right now or else we will never again be able to enjoy a good, clean, hard-fought football game.

Actually, I was at both games (Columbus and Fayetteville). I must say the fans this past Saturday were worse than Arkansas'. My shoulder was slammed into by a drunk Buckeye fan, my wife was insulted (and she didn't even make the trip), and a stick was thrown at our section during one of our touchdowns. Loved the atmosphere with Script Ohio and all, but I'm sorta glad we're not going back........

First of all, apology accepted. I went to the game. That other person who said Arkansas was just as bad or worse is a moron. I went to both away games. You forgot to mention the violence that your fans engaged in agains innocent old UT fans. (I witnessed a nice 65 year old man and his wife attacked by 4 Ohio State fans. They smashed a whiskey bottle over the man's head and spit in the woman's face) These were clearly OSU students. The ambulance came and hauled him off on a stretcher because of a neck injury. (he was knocked unconscious from the blow) Cops did nothing about it. I then talked to an ex UT football player in his early 40's who was attacked by a horde of OSU punks on his walk back to the hotel. He was walking with his wife and 2 young children. He held his own, broke one guy's neck and another's arm. The police detained him and took him down to jail...released 2 hours later. Even your law enforcement is a joke in that city. I was spit upon, pushed, had food hurled at me from close range, drinks poored on me, possesions stolen from me, etc etc. The list goes on and on. Should have taken heed from my Michigan friends not to go to that place. They've all experienced the same thing there. That school and its fans (all accept you) are nothing but TRASH and SCUM! In the wake of Katrina and how the state of Texas has taken the forefront in the rescue operations and housing, you would think those idiots would have some decency. I'm not a vindictive person by nature, but I hope your fans receive the same treatment times 2 when they go to Austin.

Anyways, Columbus is an out right [censored] hole with some of the meanest fans I have ever encountered. This wasn't football smack talk, this was hostility. I've never heard so many "[censored] You!"'s on an open street in the middle of the afternoon. We had someone tell one of the people in my group and I quote, "If you don't take that ****in hat off I will ****in shoot you". And all this happened Friday afternoon!

But to be fair to the people of Columbus and to the students there, I would be grumpy as [censored] too if I lived there. The whole place was covered in a layer of grime that makes Houston look clean. There was also a strange lack of trashcans anywhere around the campus. People just threw [censored] on the street. Sunday morning there was literally a layer 2 feet thick of trash covering good portions of the campus. It was disgusting. We met a few good people, but overall I'm very much glad I am not associated with that university if it even truly deserves to be called a university.

I really enjoyed the Michigan fans at the Rose Bowl and now pity them that they have to deal with such crude and obnoxious people day after day. [censored] Ohio, [censored] Columbus, and [censored] all the jackasses that live there. The victory was twice as sweet because I knew the next day I would get to return to Austin, Texas and they would have to stay in that landfill of a city.

Ohio State TE gets 'hate' mail for dropped TD pass
Associated Press

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State tight end Ryan Hamby has received a couple of hate letters since dropping a sure touchdown pass during the Buckeyes' loss to Texas last week.

Cutting over the middle into the end zone, Hamby was open when Justin Zwick's pass bounced off his chest and into the air. He had a second chance to grab it but was slammed by a defender just as the ball touched his hands.

A touchdown would have given Ohio State a 10-point lead in the third quarter. The Buckeyes ended up settling for a field goal and eventually lost 25-22 to Texas.

"I can't think about it too much because we still have a lot of football to play," he said as the ninth-ranked Buckeyes prepared for Saturday's game with San Diego State. "I'm not going to lie. I think about it some times. But you've just got to move on."

A senior from Cincinnati, Hamby said he had a sleepless night after dropping the pass.

I've been to a few opposing fans stadiums. Never experienced anything bad. Even @KU , our most bitter rival, fans were pretty cordial. Even the students. Some jawing, but never any physical intimdation.

But when you've never even played a team before, you'd think fans would show a bit more class than that. Familiarity is supposed to breed contempt. I'd hate to see what the O$U fans do to Michigan fans when they visit.

I do take that back actually, I think it's pretty wrong to give a college kid hate mail over that, although that was a big drop for a TD.

Can't say I'm happy overall with the Buckeye fans, I know people that went down there and can say that they weren't a part of that violent crowd, but said that people were all down there drinking since noon and 11 hours later were just hostile after that loss.

The people that were down there did say that there was a hoist of fights and near riots in Columbus after the game, so I'm sure these accounts of them from Texas fans are not farfetched at all, I knew that Texas had no clue about coming into the Horseshoe but never did I expect that it would be for this reason.

Only thing I can say is that I've never heard of our fans acting like this before, even to Michigan fans. UM fans that I've talked to that have gone to the game said that it's the normal trash talking and such, but never gotten to the violence and vandalism like Texas fans got. I have been to the stadium 4 times(Indiana, Iowa, Michigan State, and Kent State are the games I've attended) and never have I seen it get out of hand like it did after the game on Saturday, not sure what to make of it.

I'm sure this will be marked down and the city needs to do something about it in the future, because we have USC, Miami, and Virginia Tech in future schedules and would hate for one or all of those schools to back off the committment because of the way our fans act.

I noticed a different sense of hostility for this game unlike any I have seen with a Michigan game, the "buckeye" bar I watched the game in had about 120 Bucks in there and about 5 Texas guys. One of them was with some OSU'ers they were friends in the military, in the 4th about 3 different guys tried to start a fight with him, he was very quiet and respectful the whole game, some of the fans took the loss so badly the waitstaff at the bar actually gave them different shirts to wear so they could walk out of the bar and not get jumped, rivalary is great, I love it! but poor sportsmanship is childish and very unbecoming.

Kirk Herbstreit: (3:41 PM ET ) And, while I'm on a role here ... To all you freaking clowns who like to call yourself Ohio State ''fans'' -- I just want to take the time to thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedules to send senior TE Ryan Hamby e-mails threatning him and telling him what a bad player he is for making that key drop in the third quarter against Texas. It's people like that that give Ohio State fans such a black eye. What's great about fans like that is when a team wins, they are the most obnixious Ohio State fans you can find, and as soon as the team struggles, they are blaming everybody from the head coach to the quarterback to the tight end who missed a catch. But, I've found it once again MIND BOGGLING, that some people would take the initiative to send Hamby hate-mail after all that kid has done for the university. Nice touch.

When Michigan beat us 2 years ago, people were pissed as usual, but we did conceed defeat to the Wolverine fans that were there, didnt get argumentative with them and they were never threatened. We ****talked back and fourth during the game but it never got to that personal level, and everyone was calm.

Texas was just a different story, I haven't a clue why the fans were more hostile than ever, but that was chaos.

Nice touch.

Good job Herby, it is mind boggling how people would go and do that.
