I think this game is in no way a wash. This is an nfl team we are playing that should have a pretty tough defense. This game should be close and I expect us to win but not by much even though we don't have the best record at pro players stadium.

The mystery factor concerns me. If this game was anything but week 1, I wouldn't have any worries, but without having any idea how Saban plans on presenting this team, I admit a little aprehension.
Just about everything points to a good Denver win, but I can't shake that little sliver of doubt.

The game everyone should be worried about is Chicago at Washington. What an awful game that will be, but I hope a star will be born for Chicago.

Sure any team can beat any team any day but i have faith in my broncos getting the job done vs the fish,i see the denver D having a big game sunday vs fish OL which is rather average IMO and i wouldn't be suprised to see some points be put on the board by the D.Gus will be chased around like a 2 dollar hooker, but what really has me concerned weather meck and disco will be serving hot wings or brisket.....

Well, if we don't dominate, it will be a real REALITY CHECK for this team.
Miami is not to far off from the boat San Fran is in. San Fran might actually get its head above the water this year, Miami looks to just be treading water...

I have apprehension because it is the first game of the season and nobody has witnessed any live bullets to really get a sense of any team. Just as the raiders hung tough with the pats early, we may see things in this game that we had hoped not to see. (knocking on wood)
That said, let's hope the team comes out ready to light up the scoreboard in So. Florida. This game is so much about attitude! They have to come out hungry! I have that same feeling about this team that I did prior to the SBowl vs Green Bay. That is to say, 'quietly optimistic' that we are working on something special. Don't forget to pray wearing your orange and blue glasses.
Enjoy the game! We are ALL ready for some (real) football!! (I'm also ready for a name change!!!) ~NPR

Expect to be disappointed then Old Dude. Im not sold on our run defense, Im not sold on our pass rush, and Im not sold that Jake can keep the mistakes down.
I liked what I saw in pre-season, but the season is here and all my concerns are back at the top until they put them to rest.

Miami isn't an easy win...wtf...anybody that thinks that is clueless. Add that we're playing them in Miami in September. I've seen 5 or 6 Miami openers on TV over the years and they always shown the thermostat.......105...110 degrees easy on the field. This ain't no easy win. Rain won't help us either

agreed....especially since watching Wannstadt coach Pitt this year, you get an appreciation for how bad Wannstadt (and Turner for that manner) was as a head coach in the NFL. Saban has likely inherited a decent team that underperformed most of last year.....under a bad coach.
The best thing about this game is that there is no chance Denver overlooks their first opponent, like vs. Chicago or a few teams last year. Shanahan has a history of preparing his team for that first game. Also, Denver is under-rated so they'll be more pressed to prove themselves than they have been in the recent past.

This is the same team we had difficulty beating at Invesco last December when the Dolphins had absolutely nothing to play for while we were fighting for our playoff lives.
Now we have to go and play in extreme heat and humidity that we're not used to and the Dolphins are.
The Broncos should win this game but I have my concerns about it.

I HOPE for a blowout...but I'm concerned also, and expect much less.
Our run defense was not good during pre-season and I expect a lot of sweeps...why not since we gave up about 5+ yds every time the opponent ran one? Hopefully the starters play the run better than the pre-season.
Bailey hasn't played a down this season and may be rusty...and the Miami receivers are pretty good. DWill is going to be a key in the nickle packages.
Lynch is a little too slow in coverage, and a mistake by the DBs may leave him exposed.
Key will be the pressure our D line brings to bear on Frerrotte. We have to be in his face and knocking him down, and do it with only 3 or 4 man rush. Since we'll be trying to bring the pressure. we'll get a lot of three wides, and maybe a lot of screens thrown at us. Our LBs will have to be ready for them
Miami is like 18-2 over the last 20 years in home openers. The humidity and heat there IS a factor. We have to maintain drives and keep the D rested or they will be able to hang with us....a bad thing in the 4th. We were a little spotty on maintaining drives in pre-season.
I hope Shanny has a great game plan because we need to get a lead and keep it up (offensive drives) the whole game. I think wer'e going to emphasize the run game to open up then use PA and rollouts when they try to contain that.
We must limit our turnovers to ONE or zero, and get at least TWO.
We have to avoid holding penaties (drive killers).
Overall, I think that we should win by seven to ten....but the line is 4. Bookies don't like to lose money. I think 24-17 is a likely score. :juggle:

From what I've read about the Dullfins Oline and what I've seen from the Broncos Dline, Darrent Williams, Foxworth, knowing that Champ is back, Coyer's secret plans (I'm confident) for the new trio of DJ, AL & Ian, the Dullfins lousy run defense against one of the top running attacks in the NFL, etc., no, I'm not too worried.

Miami is a pretty good team. I think this is one of the toughest games on the schedule! It will be 100 degrees on the field. The heat index will be higher. Look at Miami's last four games...
12/12 17-20 L at DEN
12/20 29-28 W NE
12/26 10-7 W CLE
01/02 23-30 L at BAL
This is a decent team with the biggest homefield advantage in September. We can't even begin to compare this to that Chicago game two years ago. Miami is much better, but a lot happened at the beginning of the season last year that still fogs people's perception of this team.

I'm concerned about a lot of things, foremost is my sister-in-law's coming over and her little dog tries to pee on the furniture legs. it's gonna be a miserable opening game in that regard. Thank God for Pergo. The little bastich crapped on the carpeted stairs last time he was here, then decided to wipe his ass on the Pergo. Left a crap circle on my Pergo, the little bastich.
As for the game, from what I've seen in the past few years, the book on Denver is stack the box early to stop the run from having success, make the Den passing game put up the early points. Apparently, Saban is no idiot, so I'd expect just that. From what I've seen, the good DC's do exactly that. And it's a good strategy. It paid off last year for a lot of teams.
But last year, the puntiing game was not as good as this year, so threeandouts by the Bronco O were more damaging than I expect to see this year. Overall, ST's this year will help the game within the game - the field position battle - tilt more in the Bronco favor, so that's much less of a concern than it could be.
Obviously, the Broncos have to execute and expect a game effort from the Phins, but I'm a lot more confident this year for the opening game than I was last year. i hope it is a close, hard-fought game. I want to see how the staff and players respond to a tough test right out of the gate.

I don't buy into the heat thing. Denver had the hottest July ever in 2005. I've been in the South in summer after living in Denver - boot camp in SC and AIT in Georgia from July into the next year - and I could run all damn day at that altitude. It was a piece of cake, I sweated a hell of a lot, but what's the big damn deal? You sweat, you drink some water.

Rest easy, It's a mock's lock.
The fact that our Broncos chronically play down to the level of lesser opponents.
This is a really good point. All that stood between Den and homefield advantage last year and the year before that was heart. Those teams did not bring their best game every week. If this team has found some heart in the offseason, it will be a really good season. If not, this will be just another somewhat above average team that goes nowhere.

Well I agree we drop games we "should" win. This is in Miami and we usually lose there too. That said, you can tell this team is fired up and excited about what they can potentially do. There isn't swagger yet, but there is confidence. I suspect if we do lose, it won't be because we didn't play hard. At least the game isn't nationally televised.

No way this team should be looking past Miami. We are 0-6 against this team in their house. If we come out with opening day jitters ..ok. Those should be over by the end of first qtr.
But if this team comes out flat on the opener, on an away game and loses cause they're looking past that team, then it will be a LONG season. And the Shanny bashers will be questioning his ability to motivate again. We haven't proven anything in the playoffs for 6 years. I think the game will be closer than a lot are expecting.
A few bad bounces and it could swing to Miami. We need to get off to a fast start this year, then hold on to an advantage, cause we have a tough home stretch. Hopefully THIS year we don't fade in the 2nd half and get a HOME playoff game.
