View Full Version : 'Twas the Night Before Kickoff...

Taco John
09-10-2005, 02:12 AM
I created this back during the first year of the Mane, and thought I'd share it again... :)

'Twas the night before Kick-off, and all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, except me and my mouse;
Surfing the Internet, with eyes in a stare
hoping new football information would present itself there.

I was previously nestled, all snug in my bed
with visions of touchdown dances in my head.
And my wife in her nighty, the cat in her lap
knows that Sundays are mine, for a game and a nap.

When up in my head arose such a clatter,
I sat up straight to attend to the matter.
Away to the Internet I flew like a flash,
How did the opposing corner do in the 40 yard dash?

And will our quarterback earn all of that dough
and can he do better than he did a season ago?
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But endless statistics, of days past and last year.

I poured over them, so lively and quick,
If I can't watch football now, stats will have to do the trick.
I dissected those stats, game after game,
With box-scores in my head, but it wasn't the same;

Now rush them, now sack them, now cover, now blitz them!
Now pass it, now run it, that cheerleader's a vixen!
Now look at the scoreboard! Up there on the wall!
We're beating them soundly! Both sides of the ball!

In my mind, games of past like a hurricane fly,
With points on the scoreboard, and fireworks in the sky
And thoughts of that other coach, as he sits and he stews,
With a face full of rage, his hair falling out too.

And our coach is smiling, his gameplan is foolproof
while opposing fans cry, and look all aloof.
Our runningback's on fire, as he's running around,
Easily gaining over a hundred yards on the ground.

He's sneaking and snaking, from left to right foot,
And his uniform is dirty, from all the output;
The linemen are blocking, and getting his back,
And they keep the defenders from getting a sack.

The quarterback's arm -- making their defense so weary!
He scrambles in the pocket, his moves are so scary!
He's calling the cadence, making defenders go,
I can't wait to see this guy play in the snow!

And the opposing offense, gritting their teeth,
As our defenders pile on, their runningback beneath;
He held the ball tightly, right near his belly,
Then we shook, and we took, as if his arms were like jelly.

Their quarterback shaken, their backup comes off the shelf,
And I laughed when I saw him throw the ball to himself;
A tear his eye and a hang in his head,
Our defenders barking and drooling, filling him with dread;

Our coach kept piling on, paying off all that work,
And filled up the scoreboard; thier coach looks like a jerk,
Up on the scoreboard, the score rose and rose,
Many points on our side, on the other side zeros!

And at the last tick of the clock, the ref blew his whistle,
with the ball sailing toward the endzone like a missle.
And as I snapped out of it, I regained my sight,
"HAPPY SUNDAY TO ALL, AND ALSO MONDAY-NIGHT!"

No mice dare to come near this place. They better be quiet. One died in the garage and I scolded kitty. He probably killed it but didn't clean up his kill, instead probably batted it 'round and ate friskies. I should send him out to the farm where there is all kinds of grain and mean Rats and Wolverines for a refresher course. He's much too "tamed" however. He's like a hippie cat chasing butterflies.

BTW, Texas is going to knock the Buck Teeth out of OSU.

She packed my bags last night pre-flight
Zero hour nine a.m.
And Iím gonna be high as a kite by then
I miss the earth so much I miss my wife
Itís lonely out in space
On such a timeless flight

And I think itís gonna be a long long time
Till touch down brings me round again to find
Iím not the man they think I am at home
Oh no no no Iím a rocket man
Rocket man burning out his fuse up here alone

Mars ainít the kind of place to raise your kids
In fact itís cold as hell
And thereís no one there to raise them if you did
And all this science I donít understand
Itís just my job five days a week
A rocket man, a rocket man

I really do to. I'm more relaxed about it, for some reason. I have no idea what the season will be like, but it "feels" like its at least going to be fun to watch, and that's a good feeling. This is a great team, and it seems like they are going to play some good football this year.

but Ricky had no dope

The Dolphins had a dream

John Lynch closed that seam

The Dolphins had a prayer

but realized they didn't have Gayle Sayers

The Dolphin fans think their team is the best

it doesn't beat those South Beach chest's

The Broncos will win I promise

I'm expecting an outcome like in 2003 against the Bengals, where we struggled a bit, but came out on top in the end. Either way, it'll be excellent to get this journey under way!

Somehow it just doesn't seem fair that you guys on the West Coast get to see the game an hour before we do. We have to wait until 11.

If Baja is still in Hawaii, he'll have seen the outcome before we even kick off here in Denver.

I don't know what to say really.
Three minutes
to the biggest battle of our professional lives
all comes down to today.
Either
we heal
as a team
or we are going to crumble.
Inch by inch
play by play
till we're finished.
We are in hell right now, gentlemen
believe me
and
we can stay here
and get the **** kicked out of us
or
we can fight our way
back into the light.
We can climb out of hell.
One inch, at a time.

Now I can't do it for you.
I'm too old.
I look around and I see these young faces
and I think
I mean
I made every wrong choice a middle age man could make.
I uh....
I pissed away all my money
believe it or not.
I chased off
anyone who has ever loved me.
And lately,
I can't even stand the face I see in the mirror.

You know when you get old in life
things get taken from you.
That's, that's part of life.
But,
you only learn that when you start losing stuff.
You find out that life is just a game of inches.
So is football.
Because in either game
life or football
the margin for error is so small.
I mean
one half step too late or to early
you don't quite make it.
One half second too slow or too fast
and you don't quite catch it.
The inches we need are everywhere around us.
They are in ever break of the game
every minute, every second.

On this team, we fight for that inch
On this team, we tear ourselves, and everyone around us
to pieces for that inch.
We CLAW with our finger nails for that inch.
Cause we know
when we add up all those inches
that's going to make the ****ing difference
between WINNING and LOSING
between LIVING and DYING.

I'll tell you this
in any fight
it is the guy who is willing to die
who is going to win that inch.
And I know
if I am going to have any life anymore
it is because, I am still willing to fight, and die for that inch
because that is what LIVING is.
The six inches in front of your face.

Now I can't make you do it.
You gotta look at the guy next to you.
Look into his eyes.
Now I think you are going to see a guy who will go that inch with you.
You are going to see a guy
who will sacrifice himself for this team
because he knows when it comes down to it,
you are gonna do the same thing for him.

That's a team, gentlemen
and either we heal now, as a team,
or we will die as individuals.
That's football guys.
That's all it is.
Now, whattaya gonna do?

I created this back during the first year of the Mane, and thought I'd share it again... :)

'Twas the night before Kick-off, and all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, except me and my mouse;

I dissected those stats, game after game,
With box-scores in my head, but it wasn't the same;

He's sneaking and snaking, from left to right foot,
And his uniform is dirty, from all the output;

And the opposing offense, gritting their teeth,
As our defenders pile on, their runningback beneath;
He held the ball tightly, right near his belly,
Then we shook, and we took, as if his arms were like jelly.

Their quarterback shaken, their backup comes off the shelf,
And I laughed when I saw him throw the ball to himself;
A tear his eye and a hang in his head,
Our defenders barking and drooling, filling him with dread;

Twas the night before Chiefsmas, when all through Arrowhead
Not a creature was stirring, and no one wore red.

But helmets were hung in their lockers with care
In hopes that Fat Romeo soon would be there

The Chiefs were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of dead Falcons danced in their heads;

And Pioli in his jammies, and Clark in his nightgown
Had just settled down after drinking the town

When out on the field there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.

Away to the press box I flew like a flash,
Tore open the gate, past Hali smoking hash.

The moon shining down on the fresh-painted grass
Made me think of a tight little cheerleader's ass.

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
A big red bus, the Kansas City Chiefs were here!

With an old coach, so fat, with a great big gut!
Yes, it was Romeo, who jiggled his Patriot Way butt.

More rapid than Jamaal Charles his players they came
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;

"Now, Albert! now, Breaston! now, Cassel and Powe!
On, Charles! on Flowers! on, Dorsey and Poe!

To the edge of the sideline! Protect my damn ball!
Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!"

So back to the locker room, at the sound of the horn!
The players ran off, herded by Zorn.

And then, in the hallway, I heard footsteps come.
It was Romeo and the Chiefs, even before the sun!

As I logged off the Planet, and was turning around,
Down the aisle Romeo came with a thunderous bound.

He was dressed all in red, yes, he looked good.
And said, "Eric Berry's back and laying the wood."

A bundle of blitzes he had tucked under his arm,
He promised, to the Falcons, they would do great harm.

Said Romeo: Matt Ryan scored two points in his last awful game.
They won't win at Arrowhead, or it will be my shame.

Have you seen their left tackle, he sucks really hard!
Also, I love things deep fried in delicious lard.

Anyway, we don't have Hali, but Justin Houston is a beast!
We'll rush him, drop eight, and hold them to field goals, at least.

Meanwhile, our new offensive line is really on the ball!
Cassel will have time to throw, three-yard passes for all!

Don't worry about Flowers, his foot will be fine.
Besides, all you guys ever do is whine, whine, whine.

Romeo then closed his playbook, got back on the bus
He added, "by the way, Poe will crush all enemies to dust."

"Also, it's the opener, so our fans will be loud!
"I'm anticipating a thunderous roar from our red swaddled crowd!

He sprang to his seat, to his team gave a shout,
And away they all drove, ready for the bout.

But I heard Romeo exclaim, as he guzzled cream cheese and jelly,

"I'M SO ****ING FAT, MATT RYAN GET IN MY BELLY!

Beat the ****ing crap out of the Ravens. No regular season win will ever make up for what happened, but it will give us at least some temporary happiness to see those piece of **** usurpers of the throne get humiliated by Denver.

For every person on here who's heart stopped for a moment that dreadful day. It's been a long road, a long wait for this very day to come.

As Kahn would say...............Do you know the Klingon proverb. Revenge is a dish best served cold.

It's time for payback MF'ers. I want to see Flacco decleated. And I'd love it to come from Moore, on a safety blitz. Oh yeah, bud, you remember me. Not this time beotch.
