OK, you may have already done this before and if so, please forgive me.
What will be the Broncos first play from scrimmage?
I say a play action pass from Plummer to Rod Smith over the middle for 14 yards.
For the Redskins, I say its a play action screen over to Portis for about 15 yards.

No love from Schack.... I thought it was kind of funny.
I think Denver will throw. They like to come out a bit unexpectedly in these kind of games. How about Putzier for 10? Unless Miami plays the pass, then an audible handoff to MA for 3 yards. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Nope. It'll be Carlisle. Hamilton is too disciplined except when it comes to grabbing jersey.

I thought Ashley only ran routes that were 20 yards or longer? :parrot:

I say Denver gets the ball at the 10 after a penalty on the kickoff. Mike Anderson then goes 90 yards to the house.

:pfbbt: Ashley has been running intermediate routes in pre-season as well as deep routes.

i could see that as well, but my first instinct was that he'd rip off a nice one just like last year.

Weak I formation WR's both on Weak side, rb lines up in slot motions to backfield, Saban shows his blitz. FB either motions from Backfield wide off strong side or stays in for protection based on blitz package, pass to Rod on an under route for 8 yards.
Shanny notes reaction of D & uses it against them all day long...

We line up 3 wide with Watts in the slot. Deep pass to Watts either A.) Goes for a TD B.) Bounces of his hands into the Saftey's and we all groan about Watts and/or Plummer.

Reverse.
Seems like Shanny loves the reverse right off the bat.
We were running reverses on the first or second series a lot last year. I don't think we even really care if the play succeeds. Its mostly designed to cut down on backside pursuit by giving the defense something else to think about.

Great topic!!
Lots of interesting answers...
Last year against Miami, the Broncos 1st play was...
1-10-DEN 20 (15:00) 16-J.Plummer pass to 80-R.Smith to DEN 28 for 8 yards
I'm going on a limb here and saying Shanny runs the same play...

meh, I know the offense will be fine because Plummer has looked smooth so far in the preseason compared to last year when he was swatting away reporters by the dozen regarding the lack of TDs by the first team offense.
What I want to see from the first play is the front four coming out and collapsing that weak a$$ OL and forcing Gus to throw it out early. If there's one thing I want to see this season, it's to finally be able to see a front four DL that isn't just an afterthought.
I'm sick of watching our DL crumble, year after year during November because all the retreads and has beens get injured or tired. Warren, Brown, and Pryce had better bring it this first game because godamit it's about time and after years of disapointment, we finally deserve to have that monster DL.
We've got a lockdown CB, three LBs who can fly and two of them play at a probowl level so I want to see results this year starting with the dismantling of that OL and leaving a path of broken QBs in our wake.
ps Also a note to Coyer. Buddy, you've got what you wanted. Gold. And you had better use him and I mean I want to see Gold get ints, sacks, and rip of the QB's head on a blitz since he's been hyped up all offseason as all that!

Nah...those were the Reeves years. To open the third quarter you could freaking bank it. It was Sammy Winder and a pile of dust for 2 yards. It was freaking unreal. Reeves always ran up the middle on the first play of both halfs. Every time, without fail. It was pathetic.
Now we have the problem child in Mr. Nintendo. I have no clue what he's going to do with 6 recievers and 6 tight ends. If Denver falls behind by three, Mr. Ninetendo will be breaking out his 7 wide.
