• Broncos defensive end Courtney Brown just can't get any good luck. He missed 33 of his last 64 games with the Cleveland Browns. Brown didn't practice Wednesday because of an elbow injury, and even though he's listed as probable, he may not play in the opener against the Dolphins.

whoops.... didn't realize it was insider content. Nonetheless, it was Clayton reporting that Brown didn't practice yesterday. Man I hope this is wrong, but its starting to feel like a Trevor Pryce injury from last year where we keep hearing "next week he has a chance to play".

since I already violated the rule... another funny part of the article:
• If you thought Maurice Clarett put himself in a bad position for quitting on workouts during the Indianapolis Scouting Combine, wait until you see what's happening now. Clarett did nothing in Denver and the team ended up cutting him and admitting he was a third-round bust. Clarett lingered so long on a groin injury that he didn't even play a down during the preseason. With no tape of him running or even playing special teams, he isn't even being offered a practice squad contract. Teams such as the Cardinals, Bengals and Jaguars may look at him for a practice squad spot in a couple of years. At least he has a perfect NFL career. He's batting .000. He lost his lawsuit against the NFL. He couldn't make it on a team that runs one of the league's best running offenses. He doesn't have a single bit of game tape. Plus, he didn't earn a signing bonus or a game check from an NFL team. That's a perfect no-hitter.

Why did Shanahan tell a Post reporter that Brown went full speed on Wednesday. I guess Mike forgot to check with Clayton.

Uh... looks like Clayton is a bonehead.
Broncos coach Mike Shanahan had two words to describe Courtney Brown after a pivotal Wednesday practice.
"Full speed," Shanahan said of the veteran defensive end, who is attempting to work his way back into the lineup after missing more than a month because of a dislocated left elbow.
Shanahan said he hopes Brown will be able to play a role Sunday when the Broncos open the season at Miami. Brown has practiced for more than a week, but his work Wednesday was his most extensive since being injured Aug. 4 and missing the team's 4-0 preseason.
Before practice, Brown was taking a cautious stance.
"I feel great, but I just want to take it one day at a time," Brown said.

Jesus, if it's not the media just repeating everything without doing a bit of research, now they are just making stuff up about the Broncos. They need to be held accountable by their bosses for posting such things.

I tried to find a place to email Clayton, but I couldn't come across anything. What a dumbo. It'd be nice if Brown has 4 sacks and makes SportsCenter.

Today the Post printed out their multi page insert on the Broncos. They were still talking about what Jerry Rice would bring to the team and his name is on the depth chart. Stick to the Mane if you want Bronco info.

Engelberger is a liability against the run. A healthy (I know, I know) C. Brown will do nothing but help us. Not holding my breath... but still holding out some hope.

Not really characteristic of Clayton to just blatantly lie. The guy is a little geek, but usually has sound journalism skills.

Actually, the word came down from God...Stephen A. Smith. Mr. Know it All. Usually, Clayton is fairly accurate. The Brownco bashing is some sort of circle jerk however, and quite contagious.

Brown could have 5 sacks and a forced fumble and ESPN wouldn't show it. We can get by without him for another month. I don't like how we only kept 9 linemen tho. I guess Predator can play DE tho. There isn't any reason to rush Brown at all. I would love to see him take a few snaps in mop up duty tho. But no reason at all to rush him back. We need him in January, not September.

I hope they dont rush him back. Every time he has been injured he would have. He totally dislocated his elbow a month ago. He'll be fine in another week or two so dont push it we'll be alright this week, and I'd rather have him not only fully healed but fully back in football shape and ready to rumble against SD or KC rather than pushing him in a week too soon.

Miami's OL is weak and if Brown was practicing full speed then he's got to play. I don't want to waste a roster spot on some guy who can go full speed during practice and then not play come Sunday.
His injury was initially diagnosed as a 3 week recovery and 6 weeks at the most. It'll be almost 6 weeks this Sunday.
If he's that fragile that he can go full speed during the week and then crumble on Sunday against the weakest OL we'll face all year then there's no place for him on my team IMO and he should but CUT!

He might just have a low pain threshold. Somebody needs to tell these guys that nobody in the NFL is 100% after week one of training camp. You're not going to be as finely tuned as a Stradivarius for every game. You hear me talking, John Abraham?

Check the book on Brown's injuries, its not a low pain threshold thing, he's broken bones and tore ligaments. Things that you just can't play with at the NFL level.
Some guys just don't have the durability to play NFL ball. Would you or I? I doubt it. People so often look at strength and speed as the defining characteristics of an athlete, but a guy like Lance Armstrong needs to make us reconsider that defenition. The ability of your body to resist or recover from injury is as much a physical gift as being able to bench 410 at only 225 like Cedric Cobbs, or running a 4.3 at 6'5" 230 like Matt Jones.

Good post--I was just thinking about this the other day. You can have all of the physical ability in the world, but if you are not durable enough to see the field consistently, it doesn't really matter. Some people's bodies just aren't made to withstand the rigors of pro sports, despite the fact that they can run a 4.3 and have a 40" vertical. Just like my body wasn't made to bench press 400 pounds, despite the fact that I'm very durable. I guess durability/recoverability are physical gifts just like anything else, we just don't tend to think of them that way...

Actually I didn't post this under this title. It was edited for me by one of the Mane's editors. I posted it under "Brown to sit out against Miami?". Then we found the Post article and assumed ESPN was wrong since the Post had direct quotes. So they editor that changed my post decided to go on a tirade against ESPN.
Someone lied (it appears it was Shanny). Someone changed my thread title.
