Broncos Add Ex-Bears Wideout Terrell

Five-Year Vet Becomes 11th First-Rounder on Broncos Roster
*** UPDATED 4:26 P.M. MDT ***

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- David Terrell wasted no time in getting to work.

Just moments after the former first-round pick signed a contract to join the Broncos, Terrell had donned a No. 13 jersey and stepped onto the field for the close of the team's practice session, getting some work in with the JUGS machine before hading inside.

"We just got him signed here about 15 or 20 minutes (ago)," Head Coach Mike Shanahan said. "He didn't get a chance to practice, but he'll be on our football team."

Terrell joined the Broncos just five days after the New England Patriots released him at the final cutdown, and couldn't hide his excitement at getting another chance at living up to the promise that caused the Chicago Bears to invest the No. 6 overall pick in him four years ago.

Rice for Terell? Good roster move.

No kidding. I'd agree with that.

Rice provided what he can still do (show by example how to practice, conduct yourself as a professional) to the young kids during training camp. Now Terrell might actually produce in games...more so than Rice could have at this stage in their careers. I think Denver got the best of both worlds with this situation.

I like the move a lot also. Low price for a ton of potential. Thats been the motto all offseaon!!

BUT we NEED another OL, i mean 7?? I know OL are beasts and play thru pain, but they do get tired and this WILL affect us later in the season IMO. I hope not but fatigue is HUGE toward the seasons end.

Ive heard that D terrell and C Brown are two biggest busts in years. C Brown had injury problems. I don't know much about D Terrell except he was highly touted coming into NFL. Anyone followed Chicago bears? What's the deal with this guy?

His excuse "no qb stability at all". I think he can thrive in our system. BUT in saying that there is no need for him here. WE NEED another guy at OL for some depth.

But if you look at it as a tradeoff, Rice for Terrell is a great improvement. :strong:

Again, the theme this season: little risk, high upside. He connects, super; if not, we've lost nothing.

Not sure why anyone would be against this.

Still miss my Dorsett David, tho. Dammit.

So you think the three on the practice squard are not enough? They are not going anywhere so I don't think we need to bring in someone to sit on the bench and wait for an injury to help the team. Terrell atleast can bring something for our team game to game.

13 David, Terrell WR 6' 3" 212 03/13/79 5th Michigan FA '05

I love this. Andrew Mason, or whomever adjusts the website roster, entered him as Terrell David. Rubbing a little TD mojo on him might be just what he needs!

6'3 & 212. Nice measurables.... we'll have to see if he has what it takes. :pimp:

i know. but rice game him run for the money, mainly because watts sucked until the very last preseason game. in terrell i see a big, fast guy who can block down the field. if watts drops a couple, i see terrell getting his chance.

I have my doubts that Terrell wil make any type of impact here. Washing out with the Bears is one thing, but failing to show anything with the Patriots (who really could use a big time receiver) suggests that he will never live up to his potential.

Well, he was injured with some sort of infection the first half of camp/preseason, so by the time he was good to go he was so far behind schedule, they just decided to let him go.

Now he is coming here even further behind, but under different circumstances. I would love nothing better for him to really excel here, and really BITE the Pats in their AZZ. Better yet, Catch the game winner against them later this year, man that would leave a MARK!! :militia:

I would love to eat crow on this, but I highly doubt David Terrell will ever make his impact felt. He's not a bad pick up at all given that he didn't cost anything, but given how thin the broncos are on o-line, the last roster spot may have been put to better use.

Like many I'm more curious as to why Davis wasn't brought back or another O-lineman? Palepoi not coming back is a little more understandable. 50/50 on Terrell. Anybody heard anything on Davis' departure? The Broncos expressed good feelings about his apparent turnaround.

i kinda wanna see terrell play. i haven't seen him play much, but it doesn't look like he got a chance to play for Pats. i hope watts can hang on to the ball, it would be fun to see what a former 8th pick WR can do if watts falters.

I really like having Terrel. Hes had some hard breaks and lousy QB roulette combined. He was cut, from what I can tell, mainly due to Pats depth at WR and him missing so much camp with the infection now healed. Maybe by KC game he'll have enough feel for what's going on to contribute if need be and should be really good to go by teh bye week for the last half of the season in case we get any injuries there. A good pick up.

Plus we got Nate Jackson and Wesley Duke who are basically big atheltic and relatively fast receivers as well so we got boocoup depth there now.

Terrell's presence alone is really going to keep the fire lit under Watts, Adams and Devoe as he is odds on to push ahead of those guys once he gets the playbook down and develops some chemistry with Plummer.

He really has been in an aweful situation tha past three years QB-wise and team-wise that without doubt effected his performance.

Now that he's healthy and on a relatively stable team this could be a real gem for us the last half of the year and some good injury insurance as well.

The guy was a monster for Michigan. From what I have read, the guy had a giant ego problem and was constantly nursing various minor injuries. He also wasn't a hard worker. This guy has all-pro written all over him but never stepped up.

After getting his ego cut down to size by two teams kicking him to the street without even a trade, hopefully he will settle down and realize he's on the last dance tonight. I think he got a ton of money and the ego to go with it, maybe like Gerald Warren. I would of given Lance Armstrong's nut to get him in that draft, I thought he would be a star.

This is really a no lose situation. If the guy is a jerk, we just move on. Just maybe he's woken up. I mean, the guy was taken #6 for a reason. New England signed another guy, can't remember who...Peerless Price I think...his measurables are prototype and he's fast. Maybe Rod Smith can wake the guy up. I honestly don't know if he was hungry after that fat money came in. These flava clowns sometimes wake up when they realize the gravy train is about to go off the tracks. The "plan" is working.

If you would of told me Denver would be the last chance, end of the tracks team last year, I would of just laughed. We have taken the throne from Oakland. At least all these first rounders are still pretty young. Man, they should all be hitting their primes. Alot of these players came out right around Lelie or just before. Man, if he decides he wants to work, it could be a steal. If he's still acting like a prick, kick him to the curb...it's up to him. First thing I do is tape a picture of MoC and Ryan Leaf on his locker.

As noted, he WAS with the BEARS, not exactly a well oiled machine, especially at QB.(someone please explain how we lost to them at home...yeah, the offense was offensive, but sheesh)....how we drop these home games against inferior teams is unreal.

Interesting move. Maybe this is a clue that Shanahan doesn't have complete confidence in Watts, Devoe and Adams. You would think ONE of them would step up and be a dependable 3rd receiver...

Doesn't mean squat, he won't be active this week anyway, they have to teach him the book, hopefully he's literate and they just yellow the stuff he has to know. I'm not convinced the guy isn't a moron.

I remember thinking how great it would be if Denver got Terrell a few years back when he came out of college with all the hoo-ha.

I was honestly shocked when he busted with Chicago...as was I equally surprised that Travis Taylor was a clunker with Baltimore.

If Denver hadn't traded out of the ten spot, I was convinced Taylor was the guy.

Foolish me to doubt Mike...he traded down to 15 and took Deltha O'Neil.

Now, THAT'S strategy!

Just a theory, but I think the draft next year is so loaded on the lines that Denver would rather spend time develping a WR (which is not a strong position in draft) than a guy that will have no shot surviving cuts next year.

He was known for NOT blocking down field with DUH Bears & He is far from fast. he has more possession speed. Besides the fact that he is arrogant, has had trouble with the law & dropped far more passes than Watts I don't like the move now. Start of TC or PS is one thing but to throw this idiot in the mix at start of year is stupid,

If he really finally does have his head on straight we should know sooner than later, he has ideal size & is physical in red zone, no real breakaway speed but he can get open if he runs the routes correctly. Just seems to lack maturity off the field & concentration on the field. It looked to me like bad plays got in his head & was not consistent. He would have 2 drops followed by one great catch followed by a bunch of drops.

I see him as inactive most of this year & a project for next unless guys go down or he contributes on ST, which I don't think he ever did with DUH Bears.

Why have a chunk of crap owning a roster spot? We have a practice team and a phone? We found a punter when we needed one in the middle of season. How is it we can't suddenly find an OL guy?

All the faults listed might be true but we have a former starting WR who now has to prove he's better than a 4th or 5th WR. If he's good enough to be a 3rd WR he has to prove it. If his attitude sucks. He can go have a beer with Maurice down with Lawrence Phillips as some dive in Oaktown.

I don't see the need for another OL on the 53 man. Any real need there can be addressed by a PS call up, short of us loosing like, 3 in one game, and I like our PS guys better for this year than anyone we could have picked up and then had to groom into our system. Sure, we only have 7 OL on the roster, but with guys like Meyers on the PS we really have a few extras stashed away for a rainy day.

Terrell isn't going to be some deep threat like Watts or Lelie but if he works hard he's an ideal WR to run all those plays over the middle we used to send Eddy Mac out on. From what I saw of him playing in Chicago he also steps it up in the red zone. Off field problems? Ego? No different from half a dozen other guys we have on the roster. I'm cool with giving him a shot because for us he can provide better posession WR skills than any of our other WRs can, short of Rod.

As for why he was cut by the Pats, well, he wasn't healthy and he is basically the antithesis to David Givens. Both are the same type of WR but while Terrell has busted as a high 1st rounder Givens has broke out as a late 2nd day pick. For NE the only real role Terrell could play was taking Givens place should he get injured, thats not worth a roster spot if you ask me.

I've watched this guy for the last several years with the Bears. He's a total clown off the field, and is up-and-down on the field. He has good size and the potential to be a very good possession and red-zone receiver, but is very inconsistent. He'll look like a pro bowler one week, but will completely disappear for the next several weeks. On the one hand, you can blame these problems on playing for a bad team (the Bears), but on the other hand, he drops a lot of balls and cries a lot, so maybe the problem is with him...

Assuming he signed a minimum deal, he's probably worth a shot--maybe Shanahan can help him realize his potential. If he busts, we really didn't lose anything, and I feel comfortable with the receivers we have...

Broncos | Diaz-Infante Lands in Booth

Dick Kreck, of the Denver Post, reports former NFL OL David Diaz-Infante's playing days are over, but he will now be the color analyst on Denver Broncos radio. He'll join play-by-play man Dave Logan on the Broncos broadcasts on KOA 850-AM. "It's the closest thing there is to playing or coaching," said Diaz-Infante, an offensive lineman who bounced around the NFL for nine seasons, including five with the Broncos.
