Did she mean well, or is that just the mindset of some southern aristocrats?

----------------------------------------------
September 6, 2005 -- First Mom Barbara Bush yesterday walked past rows of poor and ailing refugees at the Houston Astrodome, then said, "So many of the people here . . . were underprivileged anyway, so this is working very well for them.
"What I'm hearing is they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is so overwhelmed by the hospitality," gushed the white-haired mother of President Bush.

It's not just Babs - Pickles the Stepford First Lady is getting in on the act as well...

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050909/ap_on_go_pr_wh/katrina_laura_bush

Pickles Bush is in an extreme state of denial. In her carefully-scripted visit to a photo-op shelter, surrounded by "happy" and "grateful" evacuees, the last thing she said before being hustled out, just as the questions were becoming more pointed, was to urge the media to "report about this."

She reminds me of Eva Braun, Hitler's concubine, who, until nearly the very end, was shielded from unpleasant war news and pouted when she couldn't have her turtle soup in the midst of rationing and food shortages.

Pickles is following in the family tradition of callous indifference and denial of human suffering caused by GWB. Like Barbara, the matriarch of the Bush family, who was compared to Marie Antoinette: "so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this — this is working very well for them."

(Let them eat cake, right Babs?)

And who said, about Iraq:

"Why should we hear about body bags, and deaths, and how many, what day it's gonna happen, and how many this or what do you suppose? It's not relevant. So, why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that?"

To get the context of the above remark:

...which is helpful in deciding whether or not LABF is being intellectually honest when he repeats it the next time.

Well, upon reading that, I would say that the attitude and sentiment that shes evokes is one of arrogace, entitlement and indifference; intertwined with concern for her own family and their interests.

The moral: ignoring what is going on in the outside world for your familys' sake, does not make it go away, no matter how much you think it does.

A point which is utterly lost on the lunatic fringe 36% who still think Bush is good news for America.

Barbara Bush has been senile for years....but whattya expect from a woman who's been totally lost since her Clapper commercial went off the air...

"Clap On (clap, clap) Clap Off (clap, clap)"

I read it as a response to a question about her family, not some grand political statement, as LABF's twisting tries to make it.
