or Tropical storm (up to 15 inches of rain) According to my local news there's a tropical disturbance in the Bahamas most likely to hit Florida this weekend. I live in SW FLA btw

Not this kind of "bad" weather. This is a tropical depression.

Get a hold of yourself, Miami couldnt beat us if they were given 21 pts at the beginning of the game.

whoa there.. I somewhat agree, but you should know better. I say that mainly because I dont want the team to be jinxed, plus the big cliche of "any given sunday."

I don't believe in fans jinxing the team. The media might over/under hype the team and the players take it lightly, but aslong as the Broncos go into Miami knowing they have to play 100%, We'll win.

This isn't going to be one of mock's locks, even straight up. Denver plays poorly early time zone. BVP would still be hung over if he has to come in. We don't have to reminded how inconsistent this team can be at times.

That said, Shanahan has an excellent opening day record.

boy i hope youre right.

i dont think bad weather favors us at all. i know they were great against the pass a year ago, but i dont know that that will be the case this year.
in fact, i think we'll be able to move the ball through the air fairly well, and a big storm kills the passing game.
it also can cause all kinds of turnovers, which could help them more than us.

here's to hoping the storm misses them.

heck, for that matter, here's to hoping the damn storms miss EVERYONE.
i think our southers states have been through enough.

Bad weather is an equalizer. Games that should have been a blowout get surprisingly close when its snowing or raining.

I smell overconfidence. We have the talent to compete with the top tier teams in the league and they will be looking to prove something in the first game of the season. I hope the Denver players are as confident as you are.

I think you have the coaching to compete, but the talent is below average, perhaps well below average. Nothing in the backfield scares anyone. Ronnie Brown and Gus dont scare me. However, Chambers and McMichael do. And Boston has looked pretty good this preseason as the no. 3 guy. With a weak OL (although I think Vernon Carey has a bright future), you arent going to run on anyone, especially not Denver. Miami will have to utilize the 3 and 5 step passing game to move the ball because the line cant sustain too many 7 step drops. The defense is decent in the front seven. Now that Crowder has moved to the starting lineup thats a nice influx of good young talent. I really think Thomas and Seau are really slipping big time by this point in their careers. Madison is still pretty good but the rest of the secondary doesnt scare me.

The fish were 31st in rushing and 31st in rushing defense last year and they'll be facing a team ranked 4th in both those critical areas based on last years performance. By all reports they are improved in both areas now. Miami might have a good back in Ronnie Brown on the ground but don't expect much his first time out. Gus Frerotte has the mobility of a cigar store Indian and looks like a sack trying to find a place to happen. Barring a torential downpour, Denver 34 Miami 10. BVP gets some reps in the 2nd half in this laugher.

:~ohyah!: I like that but I think it's going to be alot closer and certainly not a laugher. Miami probably won't break 80 yards rushing against you guys but as long as we don't give up the big play then i think we will be fine. Linehan likes to spread the field and open up the run by passing so if we can catch a few breaks and get some big plays we will be right there with you in the end. Yes, gonna take a A+ effort from the phins but i think they can do it.

Failing to break 80 yards on the ground means Frerotte will be forced to pass. That's not a good thing for him.

What, in the history of the Broncos, makes you think that bad weather is going to favor us?

Seems I've read somewhere or heard something about the Broncos having an above average running game. And I may be guessing here, but the fish run defense wasn't stellar last year, either. And vice versa, Miami has a rookie trying to find his way behind a revamped Oline and the Broncos' run D is tough.

Running game carries the day in bad weather.

Get it?

Yeah, it's true...Miami has had Denver's number for a while...very much like Denver did with the Steelers in the 70's & Cleveland forever.

I tend to believe just the talent & coaching will put Denver over the top...by whatever margin....1 point, twenty points...that's a gamblers problem.

Why does everyone think Thomas is getting old and slipping?

Do you guys realize he finished 4th in the NFL in tackles last year? he is very quick, has great lateral speed. The only problem we had last year against the run was he was our only speed guy in the LB position. Seau IS getting old - i'll agree there. He's more effective versus the runs up the middle, has little lateral speed, and downright sucks in pass coverage.

BUT.....

Now that we have crowder in there at LB, we have injected some new youth there, (which adds speed). The speedy LB's will make up for the non-mobile DTs we have.

but anyway, my main point was to dispell the "Zach Thomas is washed up" rumors.... he hasn't lost a step (yet, anyway).... i wouldn't call someone who was #4 in the NFL last year in tackles as "old and washed up."

would you?

I planned on overlooking that one, Miami was just in the wrong place at the wrong time that year.

Also, I'm a Zach Thomas fan. He is a lot like our own Al Wilson, little undersized hitting machine.

Do you realize your deplorable three-and-out offense had your defense on the field all year, thus giving Stubby many opportunities for tackles? Also, you trailed in almost every game, so teams were trying to run out the clock on you, ergo, even more tackle opportunities.
